The latter is the reason dogs, other than service dogs, are not allowed into restaurants and groceries.
Going back to Claude’s electrical disaster here are pictures I took of a burned plug for wire replacement after cutting it loose (yes, the breaker was off, and I tested it from the bottom plug using a volt meter to make sure it was an open circuit)

This was also done because I’m still playing with Postimages dot org.
This building is 40 odd years old, so with the number of tenants that have been through this apartment it’s not surprising some of them had very heavy hands when they plugged or unplugged things. That plug would also have been the plug of choice for the television as the cable outlet is right there too.
I was here for about 7 years when that plug went out. I decided to fix it myself, because while my rental corporation is really good about fixing things, repairs are done on a weekly schedule so I didn’t want to wait. It cost under $10.00 out of wallet, plus a bit of time.
I saw that nick, trimmed and stripped the wire below it and made sure I tucked everything in before tightening everything down.
Ouch! Looks like somewhere along the line a previous installer did not know what he was dealing with. Two separate circuits coming to the plug.
First off, it is hard to see, but the black and white wires are on the wrong sides, the black wire goes to the shorter slot on the front of the plug, which would be the BRASS screw, not the SILVER screw.
Next, the joiner bar between the upper and bottom plug sections on the “live” wire (the black wire) going to the BRASS screw should had been cut before it was wired up, this to separate the two separate circuits.
You get this in today’s kitchens, where the upper and lower plug are to be, by code here in Alberta (Hi, Alexi), on separate circuits. The interconnected circuit breaker needs the toggle-handles to be “ganged together” so that the both circuits are dead when the breaker is turned off.
You also get this in places where you want to have one section of the plug to be controlled by a wall switch. Again, the joiner bar on the BRASS side needs to be cut, although the breaker in this case is usually just a single-toggle breaker. I learned early in my apprenticeship to check ALL of the wires coming into the box…
This is a curiosity that I thought might appeal to some of the C & C readership. I cannot remember attaching an image to a comment previously, so I hope this works.

1 package onion soup mix
1 pint sour cream
1/4 cup finely chopped pared cucumber
1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
1/4 cup finely diced pimento
Combine all ingredients. Chill at least
an hour to blend flavors. Serve as a
dip with assorted crackers or other
snacks . Makes 2 1/4 cups.
Notes from me:
The one pint sour cream is 16 U.S. fluid ounces. Call it 475 millilitres.
As the recipe ingredients total 2 3/4 cups plus the onion soup it’s going to be closer to that volume.
In the 5 hours since I posted the above weather report, the temp has dropped down to 37° and is steadily and quickly dropping with increased winds. So …….so much for that balmy afternoon! And, back to winter we go!
(PS: hoping and praying we are NOT going to see ML’s temp of -15.5° !!!!! LOL)

The nick and discolouration in the right hand white wire suggests it was rubbed on the metal box giving you a Neutral to Earth fault as well.

Might not be two separate circuits, it could be a loop to another socket. I will say though that I’m UK based, so our regs are slightly different.
That is one outlet in a group of outlets in parallel. It looks like that.
