Gross. I’ve always hated makeup. I was grossed out when I was a boy and my folks were dressing up for a fancy night out, and mom would give me a big lipstick kiss on the cheek.
Wow… I don’t know why I’ve never seen this picture in articles about phone history (yes, I’ve read some…. I’m just that nerdy.)
The phone looks more like a 2000’s PDA or flip phone, than the first available cell phones from the 1980’s
…
Wish the resolution were sharper… I’d like to know whether that’s a clock on top, and number buttons below… or a rotary dial!
This was written in April, 1963, when push-button phones and “tone” service had just been invented… almost all land line service was rotary.
…
When we moved to California in 1964, my much indulged younger cousin had just been given her own push-button “Princess Phone”. My sister and I gawked at it like some kind of time tourists.
Dick Tracy featured wrist radios… nobody thought of phones.
….And the people in charge of the United States Government still maintain it was a weather balloon that crashed at Roswell. —
Meanwhile, a short listing of events other than the Mansfield, Ohio “Home and Garden Show” (in the Coliseum, no less) which occurred on Thursday, April 18, 1963:
1 The Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup in Toronto over the Detroit Red Wings.
2 Conan Chris O’Brien was born in Brookline, Massachusetts
3 The United States recognizes the coup which took place in Guatemala as legitimate
4 “The Beatles” photography session with Fiona Adams for “Twist and Shout” took place at the crossroads of Euston and Gower in London (a bombing site from WWII that still hadn’t been restored).
5 The: SAVERY-POT HOOK, BOSTWICK PARK, AND FRUITLAND MESA RECLAMATION PROJECTS HEARINGS before the SUBCOMMITTEE ON IRRIGATION AND RECLAMATION of the COMMITTEE ON INTERIOR AND INSULAR AFFAIRS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES EIGHTY-EIGHTH CONGRESS FIRST SESSION on H.R. 3672 and H.R. 3771 BILLS TO PROVIDE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION…..(my fingers got tired) took place.
Keep your eyes peeled, (and I do mean peeled) between 3:20 and 3:27. I managed a screen shot after several tries, and when I went looking for the result, the Berlin television tower is what came up.
Where you saw the Alps at 3:45 is apparently a snip from an Italian telecom company’s advertisement somewhere in Italy (worth watching in itself / it’s within the link I’ve provided below).
So, I guess the “Walk of Life” video could be a series of locations.
Meanwhile, here’s more of Sven Otten and his Electro Swing dancing.
P.S. for whatever a Google translation is worth (from yesterday):
Feuerzangenbowle: Translation results: fire tongs punch
heißes, aus Rotwein, Rum und Fruchtsaft hergestelltes Getränk, bei dessen Zubereitung über eine Bowle (2) eine Art Feuerzange mit Zuckerhut gelegt wird, der mit Rum übergossen und angezündet wird
hot drink made from red wine, rum and fruit juice, during the preparation of which a kind of fire tongs with sugar loaf is placed over a punch (2), which is poured over with rum and set on fire
You don’t have to tell me what Feuerzangenbowle is or how it’s prepared…
But nice that that’s the version I make. With the peel of the oranges and lemon I squeeze, too.
In the last four days, the cost of gasoline has gone up 20¢ per litre which is 90.218¢ per Imperial gallon (by definition, an Imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres) or 75.708¢ per U.S. gallon (truncated / 1 U.S. gallon = 3.785411784…. litres ); and on my way home last night, I saw some gas stations had raised the price again by another cent. Susan, I don’t know whether your sister drives, but Victorians are paying $7.3777 (truncated) per U.S. gallon.
.
Gotta be fake… but it’s cool anyway.
I don’t think the cat leaping that high is fake , though
Apparently not.
Just trying to give the other cat a little privacy.
June Valentine
I guess this is supposed to be sultry…
but it looks like little girls in too much make-up… especially my niece when she was five, smearing Mommy’s lipstick all over her face.
Not my niece… this is a little girl named Willa… gone viral at the age of two.
Wow! How adorable! Thanks for the laugh, Susan.

For me that was my Aunt Stelle, who always had the full red lips on. Fortunately we did not see her often.
Some people can wear it well, some can’t.
I like it. 🙂
..
Star Trek anyone???
A step up from the shoe phone.
Boo! 😀
Yeah, what Happy said. There is no STEP up from a shoe phone; it’s the Smart choice.

still no flying cars
Well. It’s not the Evil White Cat. So it has to be our Playful Miss Perky Cat!!! Cute!
Thanks! Nice to see a cat comic. That cat needs to stick with the smaller bites.
Would you mind telling us at what time in the “Dire Straits” video you think you’ve spotted the Berlin television tower?
Because Munich has one, too – and Berlin isn’t located near the Alps (3:45)…
Must have been Föhn.

Silly Kitty… you’re supposed to drink the milk, not eat the saucer.
lemon pound cake
Yes. Please. With some fruit of some kind.

T.G.I.A.F.! (Thank goodness it’s animation Friday)
Good morning Kitty Phans….
And the one that counts:
Y’all hug a GI and go pound a cake. (((((HuGz!)))))
General question…. 03/04/2012 Ballard Street missing for anyone else? Used the 5th
I’ve explained it there.
Thank you. My computer is being a PITA. I’ll check when I can get back on the site.
It was a Sunday, and for a while Ballard Street had no Sunday panels.
Brought over from today’s “The Comic Strip…”
,
..
Love it!
,.
Waiting for Arte Johnson.
Gosh! I miss that show.
Very well done. Have a blessed day my friends.
