This          LINK     leads to a description of the Philip Hawkins painting nighthawks posted above.

Here is the picture of the engine ( a Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No.48197) which is depicted in the painting that I’m reasonably sure inspired the painting; I use the angle of the train and the engineer leaning from the cab as evidence.

That looks like a Stanier 8F 2-8-0 Late British Railways crest era.

Edit:
Didn’t see the relay by Alexikakos until after I’d hit ‘Post’ on my comment.

It figures Cleo would be a fan of Taco Bell. She is about as discriminating in her tastes as a teenager. When I was one of those, my friends and I would go to the local Jack-in-the-Box because it was open late. Those tacos were the most godawful concoctions and we downed them like tic tacs. It’s wonderful to be immortal.

That video of the Blue Angels blew me away! From the ground, you watch these pilots flying very close at incredible speeds, and you just hope nobody sneezes. But from the point of view of one of the planes, with sound muted, they are all just strolling along together, at a relaxing pace. Incredible!

they really are fantastic! this video made me air sick, but i couldn’t stop watching it!

”blew me away” is a great description, Dennis.

I was thinking that too.

But I know the calm is kind of deceptive…

The ground below is still racing away…

the other planes seem to be in lazy harmony because you’re ALL going so fast…. your relative speed is a stroll.

But a little hiccup, a tiny twitch at the controls, and you cover a lot of air space in a fraction of a second….

So what looks effortless is nonetheless incredibly tight and precise.

I loved it but…

…I NEVER want to fly that close to another plane.

It’s interesting that the inside camera was on a weighted gimbal. That way the viewer could more easily tell when the jet was upside down.

The Blue Angels are what I think the words “awe-inspiring” are intended to mean. I had the opportunity in Y2K to watch them practice their routine at the San Diego Naval Air Base, from directly beneath their approach path. A decent sized group of us had gathered on a hilltop. They flew so low over our heads that we could see faces inside the helmets inside the cockpits.

It’s a balance, keeping the basset full when you’re driving.

If you let it get too empty, it keeps signaling, which is very distracting, and it might even attempt to stop the car dangerously.

But stopping to refuel it also wastes valuable time.

The gauge is inaccurate, sometimes causing you to overfill it.

But if you do, it can emit foul smelling fumes, possibly strong enough to make you roll down the windows in freezing weather…. Or even toxic gases!

OMG!!! Your comment had me ROTFLOL!!!!!

(and, that’s why I stick with the smaller Terriers, btw….. much more fuel-efficient!)

SusanSunshine

Well, you’re lucky yours is properly calibrated.

Some of them are set to be powerful emitters, especially if inadvertently provided with the wrong fuel.

….

A 9 pound Silky terrier I knew, with the innocently disarming name of Boo Boo, could clear a large mobile home in minutes after ingesting a few bites of beans, or gobbling half a dropped hardboiled egg.

His owner’s grandchildren had to be under constant surveillance to avoid a toxic situation.

I posted yesterday that you guys were probably right… The slight translucence of his toes might show that he’s real.

The whole thing could be resolved by a single video that shows one moving…

But so far, I haven’t found one.

….

Other frogs aplenty… yet nothing with his painted-looking, opaque eyes, or speckled “glaze”…

not even the decorative blue stripes near his feet.

If you do a search, you’ll find plenty with blue and/or green coloring on the legs and that white/off-white “crazed” effect around the eyes.

another example:

(BTW, I think the off-white around the eyes are the eyeLIDS…..not part of the eyeball.)

Yes, I did, and I saw a fair number of them in still pictures…

That’s one thing that helped convince me that they’re most likely alive…. even though they look almost exactly like ceramics.

So now I’m pretty certain…

Translucent toes aside.. there just aren’t that many ceramic frogs in that many positions. LOL

I’m just saying, though, that so far I haven’t found the absolute proof….

which would have nipped this whole discussion in the bud yesterday…. and rendered it moot.

And that would be to see one of them, exactly like that, moving, in a video.

I don’t think a video exists….more’s the pity. So, we’ll just have to accept BING’s word on this one.
