i love reading about the calming lull of sleeping on a train. but, wait. this is Sam Basset we’re talking about! there’s nothing calming about his adventures!
….
wow! real sounds from Mars! thanks, NH. that is awesome!
They have to happen on the weekends because people are so ^&$^# $#^&@ busy the rest of the week. We don’t have time for a crisis M-F, therefore all crises must occur on S-S.

Poor Sam canj’t get a night’s sleep! He needed a smoke anyway.
Good selection of music, but the Mars sounds are hard to beat. Criminy, I can go to Mars and I still have to deal with helicopter noise? I get enough of that in Seattle, with police and news crews following the same stories.

Well… maybe he’s that… too.
Note that the reporter got it right. It was the headline writer who screwed up.

Beautiful!
Space X cockpit
Ddidn’t I see that same cockpit on 2001, A SpaceOdyssee?
Well… it is pretty odd, I see.
thumbs up, Susan
Boo! 😀
EEEK! a GHOST!
And the journey is underway… clickety-clack, clickety-clack… and along with it,,, the adventure!
Sam Basset has settled into his cozy compartment for the night…
the silence punctuated only by the clickety-clack of the wheels…
and …sigh…. the rather-less-melodious sound of the jerk next door yelling at the porter… until he presumably gets his tea and pillows.
If I were the porter I’d have an idea of what to do with the pillows… but that might change the plot, and we can’t have that, can we.
…
Is this our first sight of Sam’s surprising polka dot pajamas?
Does he always sleep half sitting, with his hat on his head, but tilted over his eyes?
Presumably he needs to filter out the moonlight, because as a master shamus, he sleeps with the proverbial one eye open.
…
But Sam, Sam… you really should cut down on the coffin nails, if you need to light one up just to go answer the door.
But it does seem you won’t be going back to bed any time soon.
peach cobbler
I would foresee great difficulty making shoes out of that.
I’m sure you can cobble SOMETHING together.
Hey, if I was a turkey, I could gobble something together.
And, as an old friend used to say, “If I had ham I’d have ham and eggs if I had eggs.”
that looks divine!
Serial Noir!
Good morning Cleo phans kids got back at 4AM from Hilo

Okay, I’ll bite. What is a borinqueneer?

Arlo Guthrie – City of New Orleans
watch
one of my favorites, I have the album
written by Steve Goodman, RIP
if you look carefully, you can see the Apollo 11 landing site.
..and yet somehow the number of passenger cars is not consistent
Trains take on and let off cars at different stations all along the way.
Freight or passengers may be going part of the way with one train and them be shifted to a different one for the next leg.
That’s your excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Hmmmm…..wonder what kind of accident it could be. And Sam is wondering why these things always happen in the middle of the night.
just like medical emergencies for pets AND humans always seem to be on the weekend
So very true!
