What confidence…

This must be a household where everybody is very careful.

In most families she’d need little red flags on the tips of those pretty ears…. or in some houses I know… flashing lights.

Seeing these pictures (and others) of western actors, I wonder if they tended to wear the same styled hats even if they played different characters in different movies?

Notice Yul Bryner seems to be wearing the same hat in both of these pictures even though the movies were years apart. I’m presuming the second picture is from the movie “Westworld”.

I think a lot of actors owned and wore their own western hats…

If not, the studios knew their style.

For one thing, it’s considered a personal thing… a cowboy wears his hat in a distinctive way….

And some of the early movie cowboys came off the rodeo circuit or the ranch, and already had developed a personal preference.

Can you imagine Roy Rogers or Hopalong Cassidy in other than their iconic styles?

So that tradition probably continued, unless maybe there was something in the plot that required a certain type or color of hat…

Maybe some actors were infrequently in westerns and didn’t care… but I think most had a certain style associated with them, and usually wore it.

Over the years, I’ve met a few real cowboys around here.

I mean ranch hands, not actors or rodeo cowboys… (we do have working ranches in the area)..

They wear bigger and much less glamorous hats, with higher crowns, that don’t sit so high on their heads…

And the wide brims aren’t so stiff and snazzy… They get floppy from hard use.

I was going to insist that there were only 7 until I read your post. I went and looked really close and found another one. Then the last one jumped right out at me. So, okay there are nine. Thanks for making me take another look.

I got 8. There is something about having a lot of easy ones that makes me lose patience trying to find that last little thing. The hard puzzles put me in the mind frame to get them all.

Cleo seeing a psychiatrist… that’s really something to imagine.

Assuming, as one must, that she can speak well enough to describe her life to him…. her emotions, her actions, her relationships with the people and animals in her life…

is she looking, like most psychiatric patients, for reassurance, and validation?

If so, does she go into detail about the bazookas, the tanks…
the cats she has chased… the thefts, the attempts to dynamite a tree full of squirrels…

You know… her regular routine?

How many notebooks does he fill up, and at what point does he run away screaming?

Is he ever able to see patients again, or does he take that job his uncle is always offering at the hardware store?

It’s a puzzle.

Speaking of puzzles…. I looked at this page briefly when Nighthawks had made two posts… the basset hound and the Bugs Bunny comic book.

The page said 3 comments.

I came back when he’d added two more…. And it said 5.

Now I see that there are a couple more, but the count is always one extra.

I’m not in the habit of checking… But since there were only two at first, it was noticeable.

Where’s the hidden comment?

….

Oh yeah… You guys probably want the solution to today’s “Find the Differences” puzzle, too.

If you promise to try to solve it first, I’ll let you peek at mine…

Just so you can COMPARE.

I’m worried about him, though…

Why is he out in the woods?

And does he know not to hang out on the railroad tracks?

Or not to suddenly chase something into the wilderness?

….

Come on kitty… let’s get you to someplace safer.

Hopefully he went right back home with the photographer.

Oatmeal cookies and raisons being honoured on the same day.
Have a cookie !
I make these, they’re my favourite cookie.

From:
My mother’s cookbook (in my mother’s handwriting)

” Oatmeal Cookies With Raisins and Cherries On Top ”
   (Makes about 4 dozen cookies.)

Pre-sift 3 cups of flour (just so you definitely have enough)

Sift together into a large bowl:

2 cups pre-sifted flour from the 3 cup stockpile
1 teaspoon baking soda (not baking powder)
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Add:

2 cups quick cooking oatmeal (5 minute)
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar (brown sugar is always measured firmly packed)
1/2 cup granulated white sugar (regular tea/coffee sugar) (this is an old recipe)
1 cup shortening (lard or vegetable) soft (soft = room temperature)
2 eggs, unbeaten
1/3 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (real, not artificial)
Beat until blended – scrape sides of bowl down while beating

Add:

1/3 cup seeded (plumped) raisins (Or chopped dates if you like.)
3/4 cup chopped nut meats (Optional. I never add them..)

Beat until blended. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheet.
Decorate with maraschino cherry bits in the centre.
Bake at 375° Fahrenheit for 12 minutes on the second rack, (top rack is first) or until browned. (watch from the 10 minute mark)

Notes from me:

Plump the raisins by putting them in a bowl and pouring boiling water over them. Let them sit for five minutes, drain, and finish by putting them on a paper towel.

You could halve this recipe (1/6 cup is 2 1/2 tablespoons), but why?

There are some good ones today. For example: Hairstylist Appreciation Day, dedicated, no doubt, to our own Susan Sunshine. Or National Sense of Smell Day, dedicated to survivors of Covid-19. There is even National Sarcoidosis Day, for an auto-immune disease I had never even heard of until it killed a close friend eleven years ago.
And of course, who doesn’t love Bugs Bunny?

I agree, Plods…. Holy carp!

There’s something fishy about fishteen … er, I mean fifteen… special days in one!

Thank you, Alexi and Liverlips, but I have to also honor Honesty Day…

While I’m a hairstylist and a military brat… I don’t think many people are excited to bake a cake for fifteen celebrations at once…

Or even one that says “Happy Day to an Honest, Hair-Stylin’, Air Force Brat.”

My Moxie came from the Norfolk SPCA. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to her yesterday. She was almost 15 (7/17). The last few days she could barely get up even with help and would hardly eat. She’d always been a foodie so it was time to let her cross the Bridge.

I’m really just an echo now, but you have my deepest sympathies on your loss. It has been forty years since the little dog I grew up with had to leave us, but I can still get weepy talking (or writing) about him.

Oh Saucy… So sorry to hear.

You rescued her, and gave her a good, and happy, life.
That’s the best we can do.

That, and remembering the good times, and appreciating the friendship, which I know you do.

Dogs are family.

So sorry about Moxie. It is so hard to lose a furry family member, especially after so many years. I’m sure you have a lot of good memories. She was a beautiful dog.
