Simply from the proportion of Trinity Church, I’m guessing this is about the place nighthawks’ posted photograph was taken way back then.      STREET VIEW TODAY.

Phew… being inside that thing must have been awful….

Especially in those days of strong hot lights, no air conditioning on set… and possibly very long days.

Interesting, to see how she has her hair all tightly braided and bound, to fit under the helmet and mask…

It couldn’t have been very comfortable.

From yesterday.

Even at the time, this was played for laughs (successfully too.)
Thanks for the memory.

Bobby does not look very comfortable on that motorcycle. I think that was a stunt double riding off in the final scene. But the girls certainly shook everything they had for him.

From Thursday, last week.

I found Loreena McKennitt’s version of “The Highwayman.”
Her interpretation is very different from mine; I read it faster and with different emphasis than she sings it.
Too she left out the last lines of the coda (if I’m using that correctly) which begin “Over the cobbles he clatters and clangs in the dark inn-yard.”
I’m not sorry I heard it, and thanks for drawing it to my attention, but Loreena McKennitt is never going to be a favoured singer of mine.
I’ve posted the video below.

She left out my favorite line in the poem? Pretty sure this isn’t how Noyes imagined it being read!

Re: Yesterday’s Pete Beard video.

From the look of some of his ?alligators/crocodiles? I think Kley might have been influenced by the illustrations of John Tenniel for “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (Little Bill in particular).
Kley may have had an influence on Dr. Seuss as well, as some of his monkey creations are, I think, echoed by Seuss in “Thing One” and “Thing Two.”
As a last observation, I think his lions influenced Bert Lahr’s costume for The Cowardly Lion in “The Wizard of Oz” (the moment I saw them the similarity struck me).
Another good posting, thanks.

Don’t know what those Spanish folks were doing in “Woman,” but it did not remind me of John and Yoko.
Nice barber scene in Figaro.

They’re Italian folk.

“Letra” is Spanish for “lyrics.”

The music is John Lennon’s “Woman”, subtitled with the lyrics in Spanish….

But the clips are from the Italian film, “Life Is Beautiful” with Roberto Benigni… the dialogue to which is also subtitled in Spanish, though we don’t see or hear it in Italian or English.

I’m not sure what they have to do with each other except for Begnini being obsessed with chasing his future wife, in cute ways.

I went to see it with my mother-in-law, after he won an Oscar for it .. I think the first time Best Actor was awarded for a non-English-speaking role.

After a sort of funny romantic start, just when everybody is happy, life becomes anything BUT beautiful…at which point my mother-in-law said “I’ll meet you outside when it’s over”, and left.

The theater was in a mall, so she went shopping,

while I stayed to watch the last half of an ultimately very sad movie I wish I’d never seen.

Funny thing… for a moment, I thought the starring actress (I think she’s his real wife), when she’s sitting on the motorcycle, looked like Boy George.

Rollin’ along … on the Midnight Express….

Still haven’t come to that next station….

while super-sleuth (and self-admitted suspect!) Sam Basset still slaves away at a solution…

to the mysterious murder on the mystery train.

Do you believe Sam when he says he didn’t do it?
Hard to think big brown basset eyes are ever lying.

More to the point…. should Sam believe himself?
Sure… he says he’s the good guy…. but can he prove it?

So far nobody cops to the killing….

Sure, Vlad comes closest… and some of you already think hedunnit.

But I’m leery of assuming the most obvious choice will turn out to be the killer..

Murder mysteries are so often served with a twist.

I just watched New Zealand launch a rocket and recover the booster from mid-air with a helicopter. Quite inspiring.
