”I’m ready for my close up now”….
New Zealand artist Stephen Fuller. Part of his Napier, New Zealand project.
Unfortunately, I can’t look at that scarf around her neck without thinking of Isadora Duncan. Yikes.

“ Steve McQueen and His Family Cat, “Kitty Kat,” Los Angeles 1964 ” Photograph By: William Claxton The caption and credit come from HERE. I’d be willing to bet his late daughter, Terry, who would have been three or four at the time, named the cat.
Wow! Kingfisher, i believe.
Ummm…..what’s with Robin’s “fish scales?”
I wanted to see the year more clearly, so I Googled the book…
But I dozed off, and I see Alexi got here first with it.
!966.
…
One thing that surprised me: I thought it would be hard to find, but it wasn’t.
There were even lots of copies for sale, from partially colored ones for $15 or so to a supposedly almost new one for $125.
….
And if that’s a computer, nice prediction of the future by the artists.
Not totally accurate, but waaay smaller, and seemingly more personally usable than the real computers of 1966.
A friend took me to see the computers he worked on in 1964…not that long before.
They were quite a bit bigger and taller than refrigerators, kept in a cold basement lab on the University campus.
No screens… the output I saw was on paper tape.
I had a programming calculator in the 1980’s with more memory than one of those, that could do more complicated equations with fewer steps.
Would it be fair to describe the BatComputer as a deus ex machina?
Well.. it’s a machina. We’ll see whether it proves to be a deus.
The Orlons were unusual, a girl group with one guy to sing the bass notes. Can anyone recall another group like that?
The Nylons?
Whoa… this must be serious!
BatBasset and Sparrow are having a meeting!
With…um… each other…. cos… like.. they can’t just talk about all this over dinner, since they live in the same stately mansion?
OH! A meeting of the minds… I get it. They’re thinking. And what better way to think than with the aid of a super Bat Computer.
Holy MegaBats, BatBasset!
And what a great, bird’s-eye view of the BatCave!
We’re privileged to see into the secret world of BatMan and Sparrow.
Apparently they maintain those superhero physiques in their own private gym.
Okaaaay… maybe I’ll leave that alone.
Dr. Felix Ratbreth… that sounds… I dunno…. oddly familiar. No… maybe not.
But for some reason, I get the feeling that his morals stink.
Maybe his molars do, too. .
What is he up to with the Evil White Cat?
I don’t trust either of them as far as I can throw them.
Actually, I’ve never understood that expression, since I can’t throw anybody very far…. no wait… I get it.
It’s supposed to be a short distance.
So… I don’t trust either of them as far as I can throw … oh, let’s say…. the Arc De Triomphe.
That’s MUCH less trust than how far I could maybe throw a couple of bad kitty cats…. even though I’m not the cat-throwing type.
In their case, I might make an exception.
But I digress….
The real question is how they steal those gigantic monuments… and why…
And what they would do with millions of MacDonald’s arches….
…. unless… hmmm… they’re going to open a theme park with huge monuments and a million hamburger stands?
Nah… that smells like work.
One thing kitties, good or bad, have in common with basset hounds… when it comes to work, they all prefer to nap.
That’s one reason why this tail…. er, tale… moves slowly.
The other is that so we can savor each moment.. and I do!
pssst… Nighthawks… it’s the 8th.
thanks!–I fixed it
I remember looking for that Buffalo Springfield song on the internet for a long time….
Iconic, it was practically an anthem… one whose time keeps coming back…
“Nobody’s right, if everybody’s wrong.”
I went around humming it; and even knew most of the words.
What I couldn’t remember was the title, which isn’t in the lyrics.
Now you can just google a few words of the lyrics, but that didn’t work so well then, though I believe I finally found it that way.
Anyway, it’s one of those songs that opens with an instrumental bit that’s an embedded memory and an earworm, for me, in its own right.
I’m not very musical… sorry Liverlips… not one of those people who can recognise a classical piece in three notes… but this song, I do.
Another earworm I recognise in about four notes, and that opening stays in my head all day…
Maybe not the best song ever…. but another sweet memory from those times…
Ratbreth? EWC? David Copperfield? Who’s making the arches disappear? Stay tooned!
Good morning, serial phanatics! (or is that cereal?)
Y’all reach out and touch your BFF. (((((HuGz!)))))
hump day already?
Time funs when you’re having flies.
… wait
Oops! He was blending into the background, so I guess we both missed which day it is, ML !
(Plods: still my favorite commercial! Thanks for posting it every week…I play it faithfully each time!)
mine, too! be nice if all commercials were as much fun!
Ain’t that the truth…….??
Best friends, Upsy-Daisy and Name Your poison day?
Oh, wait. Not that kind of poison.
Got it.
Dr. Felix Ratbreath? didn’t he have a TV show on the Home Shopping Network? must’ve been the guy selling kibble treats.
