“Ginger Snaps”
These Newfoundland cookies aave the real
old-fashioned “snap” to them and will
make excellent gingerbread men, too, if
dough is rolled a little thicker.
Preheat oven to 375° F.
Grease a baking sheet lightly.
Bring to a boil 1/4 cup water 1/2 cup molasses 1/3 cup shortening
Cool.
Sift together 2 cups all-purpose flour 2/3 cup granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon baking soda pinch of salt 1 tablespoon ginger 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Stir dry ingredients onto molasses mix- ture. Chill 1 hour. Roll dough out on a lightly floured sur- face to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with a cookie cutter. Place about 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake in 375° oven for 5 to 8 minutes, or until lightly browned. Makes 6 dozen.
Notes from me:
Lard is probably a bit too heavy for this recipe, so I’d use a vegetable shortening.
Bake on the second rack (top rack is first).
Keep a close eye on them from the 5 minute mark.
If you’re on blood pressure pills, remember that vertigo is a common side effect.
It usually occurs immediately after you stand up, even at a normal rate.
I’ve had that side effect.
I will now give you the only medical advice I’m qualified to give you; get your medical doctor’s advice.
best guess at this point is that it’s because of crystals in the fluid in my inner ear. It happens to some people that get older.
It’s actually a mechanical issue.
Those crystals make contact with the sensory hairs in the system it ends up getting false information to the brain.

If the vertigo occurs when you move your head a certain way (for example rolling over in bed), canalith repositioning can fix it. I’ve done it for several people. Your local ENT can probably do it, or you can use these instructions to do it at home.
Nope. It’s more random than that. And there may be another trigger involved. I’m noticing some weird patterns.
Stuff that doesn’t always trigger it, but is common enough when it does happen.
“Holy Scatterbrain” ~ I’m going to have to steal that. I know some who deserve that recognition.

I’m sorry the clip from Sound of Music put me off. Rolfe was an enthusiastic Nazi. As the Nazi’s role for women was producing babies, it just brought back to mind that the SOTUS feels the way about women.

The little boy’s clothes, shoes, and haircut, yes… but there’s something else.
I think if a modern child wore all that for a picture, it wouldn’t look old anyway.

The quality of the light, the sharp focus without great depth of field… maybe the large, clear, negatives, or the chemical developers of the day?
Even the faces of the children they chose for models have a different look.
You know instantly that this wasn’t taken in 2022, or even 1966.
The dog looks very up to date.

sitting on them, even playing with them…
some digging them up to sell for their metals and chemicals, a dangerous occupation.
