Mark Keller is also a musician.
From a perusal of his works I’d say a majority include a musical instrument in some form so I’m going to guess one of the smaller wind instruments.

“De Vaartkapoen””      By:  Tom Frantzen

This statue sprouted in Brussels, Belgium in 1985.
I could find no reliable translation of “De Vaartkapoen” to English.

I really enjoyed this series(even though I’m a cat lover). So loved the ending. Your series are always so creative, nighthawks.

I think BatCat must be a double agent… pretending to side with the cats…

but secretly aiding and abetting the other batcreatures in bringing all baddies to justice!

Made me laugh!! I meant a Batbasset relative…..maybe from the other side of the blanket. Some of my relatives are kinda hairy, but not really furry.

Batbasset’s use of Dr. Ratbreth’s Shrinkerator™ invention to shrink “The Evil White Cat Gang” (also ™ ) was pretty cagy, I thought.

Hurray! The EWC is shrunk, and the world is at peace. Nice arc, Nighthawks!

SusanSunshine

WOW!

And just like that… it’s over!

BatBasset and Sparrow have defeated the Evil White Cat, his gang, and his nefarious crony, Dr.Felix Ratbreth!

Not only defeated them… but reduced their carbon footprint…. cut them down to size…

lessened their impact on the planet… made them feel puny, and their plotting seem ridiculously petty…

“Holy redundancy, Susan… we get it!”

Well, yeah, I know, but this is the last episode…. (sniffle) …

If I don’t use those words now, I may never have another chance!

The arches of the world are soon to regain their former glory…

arcing once more heavenward, gracing cities, parks and rivers with their curved beauty…

While the evildoers face the wrath of an outraged planet!

Where will their trial be?

Who will judge them?

What sort of person or cat or dog (or ?) would step forth to defend them?

We’ll never know, because this is a comic strip, and we’ve reached the last panel.

Sniff….

But I’m sure justice will prevail… Why?

Because this is a comic strip, silly.

Justice always prevails in the comics.

I’d say it’s because things are always black and white in that universe… but…

um… this strip is in beautiful, living, Cleocolor.

Anyhow… these villains may go to some teeny-tiny prison, and be kept in miniature…

a great solution for all the world’s overcrowded jails!

Or they may first be made large again…

in which case, might I suggest a permanent 25% reduction, just to keep them from feeling quite so powerful?

Or does that go against the Basseneva Convention?

In any case, I’m happy that our caped canine heroes have met with success…

Truly, I am.

After all, it’s what makes them heroes… It’s their career, and their whole schtick.

We couldn’t have had the wicked win, or the arches stay small!

And what about those cheesy little cheeseburgers with which we were almost threatened, had the McDonald’s arches gone missing?

But,,, snivel… still… I will miss this brave basset duo!

….

Wait… I just had a thought…. most criminal masterminds eventually get out of jail…

and besides… there are always other nogoodniks waiting in the wings…

….

Maybe one day soon, Nighthawks will plot a new course for BatBasset and Sparrow!

Right, Nighthawks? Um… Right?

Saucy 1121

From yesterday. (re: Covid tests)
Where are you getting your tests from? The ones I have, don’t expire until October 2, 2023, or February 2, 2024.
They’re from by BTNX Inc.who either makes them under licence or imports them from MDSS in Germany.
I was picking up a prescription at the pharmacy the other day, and I saw the a set of two boxes (5 kits per box) given to another customer.
How much longer this will continue, I do not know.

Here in the US we can go to a special web page, where clicking a link will take you to a page at the postal service…

https://www.covid.gov/tests

They’ll ship 4 test kits ts per US household free. Each contains two tests.

You could do that twice, and get a total of 8 kits… but I read that they’ve recently authorised 2 more sets of four per household.

Kind of a strange system, because it doesn’t take into account whether the household is 1 person or 8.

There are other places to get free tests, but that comes down to your particular health plan or insurance, and sometimes local or state government…

But in most cases, unless you’re paying, with or without getting reimbursed by insurance, you have no choice of brand, manufacturer, or expiration date.

..

However @Saucy, and others…

The expiration dates in those first shipments were pretty much guesses, because the tests were so recently invented…

since then many of those dates have been extended

and I’ve read guidelines for judging whether they might be good for even longer.

One link:

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/coronavirus-covid-19-and-medical-devices/home-otc-covid-19-diagnostic-tests?utm_source=CDRHTwitterD

Also, according to my doctor, maybe not officially sanctioned, but reasonable:

The problem with truly expired tests is they might not show any results…. so you might as well try them, if that’s all you have, and you need to.

They’re non invasive and can’t hurt you.

If they come up negative, whether fresh or old, you’re supposed to retest (hopefully with a newer kit) and/or get a PCR test from your healthcare provider anyway.

If a test, old or new, within reason, is positive, ie, does find Covid, you have it.

I’m going pass 6 of the tests to others in the office. I want to keep some on hand. I live alone so if I get sick, I can’t run out to the store and buy some.

They just have to go to that website and get their own, free.

You do want to keep enough on hand to retest a couple of times if you get a negative result.

..

But I goofed, in what I said above, and realized later… With the first order, you got four tests not four kits… And then we were allowed a second order.

Two kits per order, with two tests in each kit…. so we’ve each been eligible for 8 tests altogether.

The newly authorised orders will contain four kits, 8 tests, one time, with no reordering.

This beauty showed up as a plot factor in the next book I picked up after I finished “The Terminal List”; David Baldacci’s, “A Gambling Man”.

It’s a 1939 Delahaye Type 165 Cabriolet; the picture is a link to the Wikipedia article about the Delahaye Company.

“A Gambling Man” is Baldacci’s second book featuring his protagonist Aloysius Archer, the first was “One Good Deed”, and while I’m only just short of 13 chapters in (71 total) I’m really enjoying it; think light-hearted noir.
