Italian artist / magazine illustrator Walter Molino (5 November 1915 – 8 December 1997).
This kind of illustration was his specialty. Most of the stories for which he was hired as illustrator actually had happy endings.
Virtually all of his illustrations take a great deal of artistic licence with the laws of physics, but they’re fun to look at.
I’ve attached his picture.

I’ve never had shrimp with dill. It sounds good.

From: ;
The Canadian Living COOKBOOK
By Carol Ferguson and the food writers of Canadian Living Magazine
Published by Random House of Canada
1265 Aerowood Drive

L4W 1B9
ISBN 0-394-22017-X

“SHRIMP AND CAULIFLOWER IN DILL MAYONNAISE”

Serve as a first course or as the main dish for a light summer meal.

2 tbsp lemon juice
1 small cauliflower, in florets (4 cups)
1 cup diced celery
1 cup small cooked shrimp (4 oz)*
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp fresh dill or 1 tsp dried dillweed
Salt and pepper

•  In large pot of boiling water ith 1 tbsp
of the lemon juice, cook cauliflower for 7 to
10 minutes or until tender-crisp. Cool under cold water, drain thoroughly.

•  Combine cauliflower, celery and shrimp. Mix
together mayonnaise, remaining lemon juice,
dill, salt and pepper to taste. Add to cauli-
flower mixture; toss gently. Cover and refig-
erate until serving time. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Notes from me:
The recipe is switching from volume, 1 cup small cooked shrimp, to mass, 4 oz., as 1 cup is 8 fluid ounces.

As a side salad… that’s perhaps 4 servings, including a BIT of shrimp in each. 1oz is 2 very large (but not huge), 3 medium, or 4 quite small (64 to the pound) shrimp.

As a main course, the whole 4oz of shrimp is about enough for ONE person.

But one person can’t eat a whole head of cauliflower, probably doesn’t want a whole cup of celery…

and certainly shouldn’t eat half a cup of mayonnaise… That’s 8 tablespoons800 calories just in added fat!

….

That’s too much mayo for the other ingredients in either case.

In a photo it would be a big bowl of cauliflower with scattered celery and shrimp, heavily coated in white stuff (mayo).

….

The “shrimp salad” I posted is mostly shrimp, with what looks like a little finely diced celery and red onion, with barely enough mayo to hold it together… if it’s not partly sour cream, or yogurt.

I’d say there’s some dill sprinkled on top… I wasn’t paying attention… But that might be good.

It’s the shrimp itself that looked so good to me.

They’re in the middle of the ocean again (Honolulu got covered up).

About 7 minutes later. I went back to finish the video. There’s one shot taken better than 8,000 feet down.

11:37 E.D.T.

If I’ve done my mathematics correctly, the lobster at 8000 feet is living with 3,466 2/3 pounds per square inch of pressure on its body.

Maybe “My Fair Lady” is quite popular in Brazil.

Here I am, Cleo Pals and Puzzle People….

I was out this evening, and thought I’d be able to post using my cell phone…

Alas, nobody actually asked my cell phone, which defiantly stomped its little feet (yes they do!) and resisted all attempts to make it pick up a signal.

But I’m home at last, with a fresh puzzle solution still warm in my pocket….

and I’m prepared to share it with my whole Cleo family!

Provided, of course, that you have tried to solve it yourself…

So when you’ve done that, and want to see how you did….

Again – a tenth one?
To me, the right “SIXTH ST” sign seems to be a slightly darker shade of green (no matter what angle) – but my sense of color is way above average.

Um… I don’t think so, Tigressy….

I tested it the same way I do when I have the same question, myself, about two things in an image.

Here’s the test:

I “cut” most of the sign from the left panel, and “pasted” it adjacent to its counterpart in the right panel… then magnified and and cropped the resulting image.

I also used the eyedropper tool to pick up the color from the sign on the left, and tried to scribble with it on the sign on the right….

And then I did the same thing in reverse, scribbling the right-hand color on the left.

Maybe my color sense is only average… but I see no difference, nor can I see the lines I tried to scribble on opposite sides. They’re the same color to my eyes.

Just to be clear to anyone trying to follow….. I next recolored the left hand section an actually lighter green…

maybe more obviously lighter than you mean, but I don’t think Nighthawks would have purposely chosen a more subtle difference.

(I did eliminate the lettering, and make a solid block of lighter green, cos I didn’t want to be here till morning coloring around it.)

I again scribbled on each side with the other side’s color…this is pretty much how the first image might have looked, except for the wording, if there were a visible difference.

Hope that helps.

Found all nine; looked for the “bonus” one; apparently its non-existence is the bonus.

Claude’s problem is that he’s wearing a pom-pom hat, coat, & gloves in August. It has fried his brain pan, so he’s pushing buttons all willy-nilly.
