How could you not love this?!

In a heat wave like we’re having now, I can imagine those dogs LOVE the pool. Once they get over their initial trepidation, many dogs will head straight for water. Except French bulldogs. Those little guys have zero buoyancy.

Here is the article that accompanies this video; shot Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Lucky Puppy in Maybee, Michigan.     LUCKY PUPPY ARTICLE LINK.     For our purposes, Maybee is just above mid way between Toledo, Ohio and Detroit.

First:
A belated happy anniversary to MontanaLady.

Second:
These two lovely ladies are two of a troupe known as Mack Sennett’s Bathing Beauties.
The troupe appeared in many a movie as a kind of cameo; having nothing to do with the plot.

That’s a fine lobster if you can get him in a pot. At least he doesn’t have a bit of flesh to take with him.

Well, that’s a big if; particularly if he’s as intelligent as this guy.

The first thing that comes to mind is still hair of the dog.

IIRC, the human version of this had a nude scene. At least, the stage version did. I never saw it, nor can I remember actually sitting down and watching the entire movie version. But given a basset’s customary attire, I wonder what the original Dog Hair production featured instead.

I had a Hair poster with a fairly ambiguous nude scene, which I did not find in rummaging through Hair posters tonight. My father tore it down from my bedroom wall. Dear Old Dad.

Hair was a great part of my early years, and I appreciate the tribute.

Couldn’t wait to get to college and grow my hair down till it stops by itself. I still do, but that level is just below shoulder length these days. My wife says I have to cut it to grow it longer, but I dont care if it is a bit crazy with split ends. I like the Einstein look.

It’s a myth anyway.

Hair grows from the roots… most of the cells die off as soon as it grows out from the follicles. By the time it’s long enough to cut at all… within maybe the first quarter inch… it’s all dead.

What’s left is tubes made of layers of keratin… same stuff as your fingernails.. with a more or less hollow core. The core can hold some oils and moisture… and the outer keratin layer can absorb some conditioner, etc… so conditioning does matter.

The reason some people’s hair seems to grow after cutting is that once the tips of those hollow tubes get dry and start splitting, the splits deepen, and more can break off than the follicles are pushing out at the root end.

Trimming the bottom ends a little can make the tips blunt and stop some long cracks from forming, or splitting farther towards the scalp and breaking.

It also removes the dull frizzy stuff and leaves the nicer, shinier parts.

Kinda like trimming tattered paper.

If your hair is already smooth and shiny, and disinclined to split, whether naturally or from good products, cutting it doesn’t help it look longer. A good conditioner does.

Meanwhile, your follicles are busy making new hair… less and less as we get older.

They’re like factory drones, pushing out product… they have no idea what happens to the ends.

The psychedelic dog is by Dean Russo. I’ve found it listed as both beagle and basset.

the one that listed that psychedelic doggie as a beagle was in error.
those obviously enormous ears combined with that face can only be from a basset

Oooh… “Dog Hair!”

It’s funny… some of you have great memories of “Dog Hair” or even the human “Hair”… I love them now, but I didn’t then.

I wasn’t as much of a hippie as the ones in the plays or the movies… and in fact didn’t call myself one at all.

But though I worked all the time, and lived in a house….

I was self employed, and very close to the lifestyle.

And some of us called out this movie stuff as fake.

It was prettified, commercialized… the producers capitalizing on something they weren’t part of, and didn’t know how to do realistically.

We laughed at everything “wrong” with the movie hippies… all so beautiful, waking up in tents, dancing in the park to great choreography.

If we’d had the term back then, I suppose we’d have called it “cultural appropriation“.

Not that we weren’t doing just that, sometimes, ourselves, with our imitative “Native American” headbands, beads, and clothing.

I blush to say that I made leather pouches to sell, that I embroidered with Iriquoi and Cree beadwork designs.

When my now 42 year old niece was born I made her beaded moccasins… but nowadays, the moccasin is on the other foot.

….

Now, looking back, it’s strange, but I hardly recognise the disparities I maligned back then…

It looks nostalgic, and fairly OK, though far more extreme than the slightly hippie-ish life I led.

I think maybe my dreams have been prettified as well, so it’s a better match. LOL

And I like the music.

Oooh…. doo de dee….
(howl…)
yeah…
doo de dum….
….
howl with me….
Fur! (Fur! Fur! Fur! Fur! Fur! Fur!)
Grow it, show it
Long as I can grow it
My fur….
I let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my fur.
A home for fleas…
A hive for the buzzin’ bees (buzzin’ beeeeeeeesssss)
A nest for birds…
There ain’t no words,
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my…
FUR!

Now I can’t stop howling those great songs…

in spite of the remarks I get.

Can I help it if I can’t carry a howl?

To this day, not many bassets dare to grow their fur long….

But a few brave ones do.

Peace.. ✌️

That’s “Boomer” — a purebred basset hound!

Apparently it’s a rare genetic strain, but I’d rather think he chose to be a hippie basset!

It’s not easy.

Long haired bassets are very rare, and accidental…

Still not recognised by American Kennel Club, and disqualified from shows because the breed standard allows only a short coat.

….
Just like years ago, when long haired hippie humans were refused service in restaurants, and forced to get their hair cut when drafted into the military.

Free the long haired basset hounds!
….

This popped into my head about 15 minutes ago, but until today I had never seen the video I watched it to see if it actually fit with today.
It does.        🙂     🙂

Montana Lady… whenever you see this…

I was out yesterday, and fell asleep last night before I could post.

So sorry I missed your anniversary…

Hope it was happy!

I had intended to post a greeting, and invite you and YMM for a celebratory beverage or two at the Tiki… your choice…

The offer is still good… better late than never?

….

And of course, I was going to (re)post this…
