building– I guess I shouldn’t be surprised this was the Crayola building that
boasted this remarkable piece of artwork
The train averaged 60 miles per hour over the 16 hours to Chicago, but there were stops along the way, so its cruising speed had to be higher than that, although I couldn’t find a reliable source indicating what that speed was.
I’ve known that quince existed since I first heard “The Owl and the Pussycat” by Edward Lear….
….
“Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling Your ring?” Said the Piggy, “I will.” So they took it away, and were married next day By the turkey who lives on the hill. They dined on mince and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon;

….but never, before today, have I ever had occasion to look up what they are.
Now I’ll have to buy some.
From looking at the recipes, it strikes me it’s a dish best first tried on a brisk fall type day. So I’ll have to try it later this month or sometime in October.
Thanks for the lead. 🙂
hm–if I had some ham , and some French bread …..uh, and some Swiss cheese
I would make this for lunch…..
but since I lack those basic ingredients , I think I’ll just go with my usual Saturday fare— veggie burgers
Toast, butter, ham and cheese. That’s the original recipe from my late MiL.
Butter the toast on both sides, put one slice of ham and cheese (Emmental, Gruyere, Mountain cheese etc.; grated) on it, cover with a second slice of toast. Grill on both sides until the cheese melts.
Crimson Tide versus the Warhawks of Monroe:
6 minutes into the quarter Tide 21 Warhawks 0 (2 by defence 1 by punt return)
4:21 left 28 , 0 (finally by offence)
Monroe 7 at 10 minutes left second quarter
Tide 46 yard kickoff return…they can’t seem to stop hurting themselves with penalties.
Monroe ball their 10 yard line 8 minutes to half.
2:05 to halftime: Warhawks return the penalty favour now Tide ball.
(don’t like the Dr. Pepper commercial)
58 seconds to half Alabama on Louisiana’s 15 (touchdown 52 seconds left)
35 Tide Warhawks 7 (Alabama’s cheerleaders are cute)
12:25 third quarter Warhawks’ interception / went to fourth and 21
Tide ball at their 48 10 minutes left in the quarter / first down conversion and touchdown (Gibbs) 42 – 7
8:33 midfield kickoff return called back against Warhawks holding penalty / finally punted to Tides 43 (I think) anyway two conversions touchdown 49 – 7 4:30 left in third
I’m going back to my book (after I watch Silly Symphonies).
Came back for the final minute: 9 x 7 = 63 / 1 x 7 = 7
What gets to me is the game callers, who know what they’re speaking of, keep saying the Tide’s offence “isn’t comfortable with each other yet”; what are they going to win by when they are?

Wow.
I notice that they’re sort of landscape and building colors… not the usual kiddy set, of primary and complementary colors, plus black and brown.
With these you could add a few shrubs and trees, maybe patch a hole in a wall.
…
I’d like a nice pale cobalt blue instead of one of those light brick colors in the middle, or that ugly tan.
Instead of matching the buildings, I’d like one.that would brighten up that gray sky.
I cannot get this to post as a picture, but the U.R.L. is active.

The building wasn’t painted in the first picture. Clearly the the two photos were taken some time apart.
1934 Packard
surely this beautiful copper color was not the original color in 1934…..
or was it?
By this LINK the car body is a custom build from 1996.

The following quotes…
“One of the famous railroad paintings of all time was Leslie Ragan’s piece featuring the original “20th Century Limited.”
“The New York Central No. 5450 was a J3a class 4-6-4 “Hudson” type steam locomotive built in 1938 by Alco for the New York Central railroad.”

Just made my annual quince and pork stew over tagliatelle, thanks to a kind neighbor who made her tree available. Lots of recipes online.

I’m not going to spend time on differences tonight, when you have so much good music posted. Maybe tomorrow.
Well, we’ve been puzzled by the Padre all week…
But now it’s in a different way.
This time, we’re wondering not about the money and peasants, and whether he’s in cahoots with Slurez….
We know right now he’s partnering with Perro™... but just to make changes in his chambers, for us to find.
…
After you’ve looked, and done your best to find them…
(remembering, please, that it’s not nice to swear at a priest…)…
you can compare your solution with what I’ve found…
I missed two.
No excuse for one.
i missed 2. sneaky! fun, all the same. (now i can eat breakfast!)
I missed one and am going to fall back on whiney excuse making.

Prepared for editing in when the caffeine hit my brain around 08:15 hrs. E.D.T.

I love the naked lady painting in the church ☺
I got eight today.
Don Doggo: “Pero, yo soy Perro.”
Padre: Did you just call me dog?
This is the closest I can come to making a pun in Spanish.
