A LINK back to Thursday, August 4 of this year and the possibly second posting of my mother’s chocolate chip cookie recipe (I like today’s picture better than your August 4 one).
A picture link (it’s one of 8 as part of a slide show / not all of the glass / all are well captioned within the article) to a Thursday, July 28, 2022 CBC article about the ongoing restoration of Notre Dame. There’s more pictures (extra to the slide show) and a video (you’ll have to tolerate commercials, unfortunately).
Good morning Puzzlers. Is it just me, or do his epaulets look like he’s got a newspaper under his chin?
Phun phact… Dalmatians were bred to run under/beside the fire wagon.
Here’s a little story for ya. Many moons ago (ok years) I was an assistant dog trainer in basic class. One man had a year old dalmation that was totally out of control. The lead trainer suggest that he exercise the dog before coming to class.
Next class, same thing. It wasn’t unusual for handlers to ignore her so she asked him if he had in fact exercised his pup before class.
“We played fetch for half an hour. Went on a 2 mile run. Then a 6 mile bike ride. I don’t know about him, but I need a nap.”
As it’s home made cookie day….
I posted this back in the Sherpa days, but it’s cookies, and I still find the “Georgia (happy 98th birthday Mr. Carter) Peanut Commission” video fun to watch.
Peanut Butter Cookies below, and my favourite peanut butter video on top. 😋 😋
From:
My mother’s cookbook.
“Peanut Butter Cookies”
Sift together
1 cup sifted flour
½ teaspoon baking soda (not baking powder)
¼ teaspoon salt Set aside for the moment
Put into large bowl:
½ cup soft shortening (lard or Crisco vegetable)
½ cup packed brown sugar (use the back of a serving spoon to pack level with the top of the measuring cup.
½ cup (level) white sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
½ cup smooth peanut butter
1 Tablespoon water or lemon juice
½ teaspoon vanilla extract (real only or the taste will be off)
Beat the second list together at about 1/3 speed or use a pastry blender. Scrape down the side of the bowl as necessary using a spatula.
Blend well
Add the flour mixture and blend in (again scraping the bowl as necessary)
Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets
Press lightly with a floured fork to flatten and ridge the cookies
Chill the raw cookies in the fridge for 15 minutes
Bake at 325° to 350° for 12 to 15 minutes
Notes from me:
The one cup sifted flour is sifted and measured. It is then resifted with the baking soda and salt. Over fill the measuring cup and scrape it level; do not pack it down. Watch closely from the 10 minute mark as they’ll go from done to burnt in the blink of an eye.
