I know… We don’t celebrate it here, because she very very rarely comes to Cleo.
Cleo birthday parties are for regular attendees, who also come to other people’s parties and wish them happy birthday, in person.
If we did one for her, she probably wouldn’t even know.
I try to tell her happy birthday somewhere she’ll see it.

Meanwhile, if you, or anybody, thinks I’ve forgotten someone’s birthday, the nice thing to do, for those who have my email address, is to tell me privately, before posting it, so I can try to catch everybody up at the same time… or at least those who are on the email list..
The same way I alert all of you 12 to 15 times a year.
I just intended to tell anyone who wanted to wish her a happy birthday.
And I passed the well-wishes on.
She’s still on Ballard Street – now and back then. That’s how I know the date.

1) Go-go dancers
2) An accordion! In a rock n’ roll band!
3) All the screaming in the background, presumably from young women in the audience. Guess it wasn’t only for the Beatles and Elvis.

Takes a lit to burn lead… (Meanwhile, I understood the health risks, but always liked the way the lead icicles drooped compared to the tacky mylar.)
I remember hanging those one at a time. And after Christmas, taking them off to use again next year. So glad when we switched to garland.

We both loved “Seasons…”, so I ran out and got the sheet music. It included the French lyric. Le Moribund, which translates as “Yep, he gonna die”.
I can often sing French lyric, but my knowledge of French is limited, and that chorus just has too many odd consonants.
Plus his lung cancer.

Yes, I know. That’s what I do, too.
Only I do it by email so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to “scoop” anybody by knowing it first.

Nobody would know the date on Ballard street, for you to find, had Stelbel and I not started the parties there.
First we gathered email addresses, just to have a network in case people went missing… but we also asked people their birthdays.
Then we made the first surprise party, in 2012, and kept going until GoComics stopped us.
They didn’t just appear out of nowhere!
