I have no doubt he’d be over that wall in one bound if the humans took their eyes off him for a minute.

But somebody’s standing there taking that picture… somebody who probably knows better than to turn away.

Besides, he’s a golden retriever. If he were, say, a Dalmatian, or a Weimaraner, those steaks would be two blocks away.

Not to say a basset hound is trustworthy either… but that darn fence is so tall.

….

BTW… the food looks oddly staged… as if arranged for a picture, not for cooking.

Nothing looks oiled.

The meat looks more like a pot roast cut than any steak I know…
of course, I could be wrong, but it’s huge for a steak, and boneless… maybe chuck?

Whole half onions take forever to cook…. though there’s a slice in front.

If those are steaks, they’ll take a bit less time than that… but way longer than the mushrooms, which cook in moments… and those yellow…. chilis(?) are already done.

Nonetheless, let me know when it’s done, OK?

I assume pork.

People rarely barbecue a big slice of pork here… I’m not saying it couldn’t be pork in the picture, but it would be considered odd.

I don’t know why, exactly… we do barbecue pork ribs, and once I had pork loin roast done in a covered smoker… but never even pork chops from the grill.

That would be from a huge pig, too… and our pork is usually paler than that.

Of course, too… this could be somewhere else than in the US, where they barbecue slabs of pork.

I still don’t get how Aussies BBQ shrimp without loosing half of them through the grill.

A guy who was stocking shelves at WalMart cracked up when I asked him how to keep the canned Hunts “Grillin’ Beans” from falling through the grill.

I’m used to people just rolling their eyes.

Maybe on skewers or in a grill basket.

Or maybe they’re enormous shrimp like the ones I had in Guymas, Mexico… they were at least 6″ long.

OR… maybe they only grill them in beer commercials.

With that pink color I’d never assume decent beef.

Not mine. – Mushrooms and pepperoni ready; pork just after turning.

I’m too tired to spend much time on this… I’ve been alternately dozing and working on something else…

But I can never totally resist a puzzle.

These are odd, kind of more pictorial than some others we’ve done.

Here’s some of it, maybe…
Numbering across the rows…

  1. A raise in pay? (“A” raise in “Pay.”)
  2. It’s not the same without you? You complete me?
  3. Space invaders
  4. dunno
  5. dunno
  6. Behind in my work
  7. dunno… something about a shrinking retreat but that makes no sense
  8. This one is weird, but I’m pretty sure it’s “Three Blind Mice“. (three mice with no i’s)
  9. Split level.

My Solutions and guesses and defeat.
I agree with Susan on 1,3,6,8 and 9. I have an answer for 5, but I’m reading the clue differently from nighthawks.
My guesses for 2 and 7 are in the same ballpark as Susan’s, and 4 defeated me, too.
1) A raise in pay.
2) Where are you? (guess: there is no “u” in the clue)
3) Space invaders.
4) defeat
5) A cut above the rest. (the rest of the clue consists of ten “cuts” not “outs” to my eye)
6) Behind in my work.
7) Strategic retreat (guess: I can’t think of anything else.
8) Three blind mice. (there are no “eyes” in mice / no other vowel makes sense)
9) Split level

I figured Nighthawks said it was “out” in clue #5 because he could SEE it better than we can….

But if not, and “cut” is correct, I agree.

For 7, I can’t see your word being in there… not that I have another idea.

Family Affair…

I never saw it… but I do remember wondering whether Sebastian Cabot didn’t have something better to do with his time.

Later when I was selling vintage toys, I had a couple of talking dolls of that little girl… I think she was called Buffy.

Highly proofed fruitcake – and no; I’m not referring to Claude.
What a waste.

Just hand over the fruitcake and there won’t be any trouble.

If it’s a store-bought fruitcake, I probably won’t want it, but I can take it off your hands.

If it’s home made, and a good one, you’d better not be burning it up.

Fruitcake is much maligned… but I maintain that no one would spend all the money it takes if a lot of people didn’t like it.

Too many have only tried overly sweet icky ones from the store, or mail order.

Even so, a lot of people must actually like those too…. they don’t spent $40 or $50 just to prank their friends.

The best kind is real English Christmas cake… I’m waiting for one right now that a friend is making me.

Lots of currants and brandy, and cherries, fewer unrecognisable green candied bits.

Marzipan and hard icing.

We used to make them for each other every year, but I don’t really bake any more, and it’s quite a project.

GoComics being GoComics again:
Between yesterday and today, they’ve set Pickled Pete to invisible.
Yes most of his jokes were unsuitable for telling around ladies, and some could be classed as vulgar, but most were funny and I’ve never seen a down vote in the time I’ve been following (unofficially) him.
And it’s not like Scully is entertaining either. He should be dumped.

The other one is not a little dog, yet it is dwarfed by that portable space heater. I bet real money that White Fluff is as gentle as a lamb, and would make a fine short-term babysitter for any infant.
