Artist: Hiroshi Yoshida
This one is (in translation) “Morning” one of the six block paintings in his “Sailing Boats” series.
The others, using the same blocks with different paints, are “Forenoon”, “Afternoon”, “Mist”, “Evening”, and “Night”.

A yellow stop sign. I wonder when it turns red.

In 1954.

Really.

This one is a hanger-on.
I took one look at the car and said “Nope.”
“Snowy Ambush” was painted in 1959.

I have no idea what you mean by “a hanger-on”, but I didn’t say the picture was painted in 1954.

The car isn’t very clear… But it doesn’t look like a ’54 model to me OR a ’59… Maybe a small 55 or 56 Chevy, before tail fins. But if it’s a little Nash it could be older.

….

Meanwhile I was simply answering Mr. Sherman, who wondered when the yellow stop sign would turn red.

Stop signs.in the US were officially yellow until 1954, when the government mandated that they be red.

It took some municipalities a bit longer to change then all, but most indeed turned red in 1954.

….

My surmise is that the artist was depicting a scene from a few years before he painted it… possibly using an old photo for reference.

Or maybe he lives somewhere they didn’t change right away… Or he was just feeling nostalgic for yellow stop signs.

BOOK REVIEW

“YOURS CRUELLY, Elvira
MEMOIRS
OF THE
” MISTRESS
OF THE DARK”
CASSANDRA PETERSON

If you remember, I drew your attention to the interview Cassandra Peterson had with Tom Power of “Q”, and said I was going to get a copy from the library.
Wow! !
The writing is brutally honest. I had to put it down every couple of chapters to absorb what Ms. Peterson wrote.
It is nowhere close to either “look-at-how-great-I-am” or “poor-me”.
Her pithy summings-up (both good and bad) of various Las Vegas, television/Hollywood celebrities, the bosses thereof, and some sports figures will leave you in no doubt about whether she’d have them at her dinner table or not,…. the ones where she changes, with cause, her opinions (again good and bad) of them….(if you read the book you’ll see it).
The language is the language of those industries, and used as necessary.
That said, when I said she came across in the interview to be as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside; she is.
