How do you make the “Choose from Media” button from (under the “Edit Profile” button) to work?
I’ve tried and tried to “Drop files to upload.” but have been unsuccessful.
I cannot paste a copied address, and when I drag the picture itself over (having made sure it is under 512 MB.) the drop area turns blue, accepts the paste, and then just stops.
The “Set as avatar” button is covered up, and there is no way I’ve found to get it back.
I checked my download folder after each failure, and nothing has ever appeared there.
I thought the “Media Library” tab was where the “drag-and-drop” picture might be filed, but when I opened it there was nothing in it. Even waiting for each of the months under the “Filter media” is null for me.
Please, what am I missing?
As a side note, I’ve discovered that anyone who has a “gravitar” avatar is very limited with what they can do with it. For instance I can do this with Susan’s
from gravatar and gravatar locks it down.
To be fair, they say an avatar stored with them is for use Web wide and I’d bet that lock is for better security; which is not a bad thing.
Alexi: I can’t check anything out now for you, since I’m having major problems with my access to the behind-the-scenes controls and, in fact, my user name and access to my profile page is missing in the above right corner.
I have no idea what happened! Everything was completely normal all day, but now, in the last hour, it seems everything has disappeared. Even my avatar, although it seems to be showing after I post, is missing at the empty comment box. Instead, I have a generic pink avatar.
Whenever things return to normal, which may not be until tomorrow when Nighthawks grabs his tool kit and looks under the hood, he or I will try to answer your questions. Right now, I guess I’m lucky to be able to comment.
Try following the steps I gave to Dry and Dusty yesterday and get your GoComics avatar back (it will still not be animated but its address will be useable).
Saucy 1121 is having the same problems as I am, I suspect, when it comes to uploading.
Saucy, if your reading this, if you follow the steps I gave Dry and Dusty yesterday, I know they’ll work in your case; because I changed my avatar to yours from GoComics, but did not take the final step of putting it in play (…cuz’ who wants to be banned?).
Nonono!
I made that mistake at first, too. (Trying to upload, that is).
Choose “Browse” instead
locate the picture you want for your avatar on your machine
choose that
click “Update Profile”
wait a moment (there will be a confirmation)
return here.
I had “created” my avatar at Gravatar for this site, but the steps above work fine.
I’ve already tested that after StelBel’s reply to me yesterday and again just a few minutes ago.
Tigressy We are either talking at cross purposes, or you have a different dialogue box than the rest of us (not impossible given that the site is new and still has some glitches in it).
But when you go to the upper right and click on “Howdy Tigressy; you should get a box reading (top to bottom – left to right – first appearance;
1.) Label: “Avatar”
2.) Your avatar picture – control button: “Choose File” – statement: “No file chosen”
3.) control button: “Choose from Media” – control button: “Remove”
4.) Avatar rating line (control button check circles and labeled “G,” “PG,” “R,” and “X,” respectively)
5.) control button: “Add New Application Password”
6.) control button: “Update Profile”
there is no “browse” button
Clicking on the control button “Choose from Media” brings up (same listing rules):
1.) Label “Choose an Avatar”
2.) Tabs “Upload files” “Media Library”
3.) Statement “Drop files to upload”
4.) Statement “or”
5.) control button “Select Files”
6.) Statement “Maximum upload file size: 512 MB”
again no browse button. Please, a further explanation.
I do not feel I owe you an apology given my opening sentence above.
Tigressy We are either talking at cross purposes, or you have a different dialogue box than the rest of us (not impossible given that the site is new and still has some glitches in it).
As it turns out, you do have a different dialogue box than myself and StelBel.
If you go back to yesterday and look at StelBel’s screen shot of her “Howdy” link, and blow it up “using ctrl +” or the Mac equivalent, you’ll clearly see that where you have “Browse” we have “Choose File.”
Saucy1121 does have problems, too. I replied to yesterday’s post and cped it above.
“or you have a different dialogue box than the rest of us”
implies that I’m the only one with a different “view” which most probably isn’t the case (or am I the only one here without an Apple-product?). That’s what flummoxed me. I may be a rare specimen, but I’m not that unique.
“Firefox under Ubuntu here…” as I already told you yesterday.
My “Browse” is your “Choose file” (similar location) – But neither is “Choose file from media” which just doesn’t seem to work because uploading files is neglected there.
I initially wrote “I made that mistake at first, too. (Trying to upload, that is).” Remember?
If that’s so, then “Browse” and “Choose file” are basically the same instruction, meaning: browse your computer files and choose a file for your avatar.
People have a choice, to either get their avatar from an image that they already have saved onto their computer or choose “media”, which, initially, I thought to mean off the internet, but can also (or only — I’m not sure on this) mean from the media library on this site.
That’s how I got my animated avatar last night: by choosing the animation that I had posted a few weeks ago that was stored in the media library.
Perro didn’t even need to ride in order to advance the storyline tonight!
We take up right where we left off Monday…. two days for us... but through the magic of cartooning…. and the delays of publishing…
only a moment for Perro…. and for the evil henchmen of the even eviller Comandante Slurez.
A hard moment, indeed, for them… as their ill-gotten gains are snatched from their fingers by a fancy turn of Perro’s bullwhip…
Not that the loot wouldn’t have been snatched from their fingers anyway, by Slurez himself.
But at least in that case, they’d have been allowed to keep their fingers… who knows what will happen when they report to the commandante.now….
IIl-gotten-gain-less… and bearing, instead of bags of pesos, a direct threat from the mysterious swordsman who carved P‘s … we assume… in their pantalones.
Excellent synopsis! but the coup de grâce was “ill-gotten-gain-less… and bearing, instead of bags of pesos, a direct threat from the mysterious swordsman who carved P‘s …we assume… in their pantalones.”
hi all this is a test, are my comments able to be seen, I have left comments but have not received any likes or responses, do you get any kind of notice when a comment is responded too, or do you have to go back and look for it, thanks for the help
Hi, Jay. There is an icon to the left of the box “post comment” It will say ‘notify when new replies’ come for you (or something like that). You have to click on that before you click on ‘post comment’/ It then sends you an email that you have a reply. Good luck.
Yes, we can see you, as Montana Lady already mentioned.
If you opt not to have notifications of replies sent to you, then all you can do is to constantly scroll through all the comments periodically all day, which is what I do.
It’s not all that awful, though…..that way, you get to see other posts that other people have left in the meantime.
So, while this site lacks some things that are available on GoComics like notifications, we can at least post images and videos right on the page, and even have the comments ON THE SAME PAGE (which Sherpa didn’t allow)…..and, a lot of us have missed that ever since GoComics took away those options a few years back.
but now that you bring it up……if you were to click on this smaller version of the logo at
the bottom of each page, you would be returned to the home page
I refreshed this page a few minutes ago when I got here, and saw nothing about it… so I posted the “news”….
But I just refreshed again and see that it’s already being discussed.
So I’m editing to say that I checked it sometime around 5am California time, a couple of hours after I posted on Ye Olde 2011 Ballard street, and it was still up.
A couple of new comics had been posted for today by the diehards who had been hanging in there.
But unless it’s a another glitch, the AMU crew came to work in Kansas City today and took down the whole website.
Good thing we have a Cleo archive here.
R.I.P. Comics Sherpa.
And a warning to my Cleopals here…
I think it takes more than one refresh to truly refresh these pages… Though it might be only if you have slow internet like mine.
It doesn’t really make sense, by my fairly limited understanding of the internet…. but this is not the first time it has happened.
Susan, it’s pretty sad how it all is. I have a love-hate relationship with gocomics.
It was their invitation for a mere 99 dollars a year to post a cartoon in any frequency
that had a potential viewing of a whole lotta people. So of that, Cleo and Company
came to be, evolving along the way. for that, I am grateful. But for the promises
not kept and the rather brusque treatment from the front office in later years convinced me that Sherpa was more trouble to them than its worth.
but seriously, THANKS SO MUCH for all your promotional work you do for C&C!
I managed to change my avatar today. Did exactly what I did yesterday (followed Alexikakos and Tigeressy’s instructions) but, today it worked. Who knows why. As a former coworker used to say “it’s a computer, it’s not a why question.”
Panel 1: that’s a pretty fancy loop-de-loop whip that Don Doggo wields there!
He has gotten better than when he tried to snap Fernando’s cigar!
line from ‘Inglorious Basterds”:
you know how to get to Carnegie Hall?
Practice.
well, when you’re the self-proclaimed ‘bad-ass with a whip’, that stuff comes easy

comes from here, but I cannot do the same with yours because its address is

I get
1: JP Steve
2: Edit profile
3: Log out
Nothing else!
Quick double left click and wait or bring up the above and click the “Edit Profile”
Okay, so you’re on the screen _after_ clicking “Edit Profile.” But I get the “browse” option same as Tigressey.
Apparently, people get one of 2 screens:
If that’s so, then “Browse” and “Choose file” are basically the same instruction, meaning: browse your computer files and choose a file for your avatar.
People have a choice, to either get their avatar from an image that they already have saved onto their computer or choose “media”, which, initially, I thought to mean off the internet, but can also (or only — I’m not sure on this) mean from the media library on this site.

Thank you – I’m glad that someone gets it.
Maybe it’s because I’m on my tablet… I’ll have to look again later, on my laptop…
I have “choose file”…. I THINK on the computer it was “browse.”
It may depend on what browser or device you’re using
While it’s hard to tell from cropped screen shots, mine seems to be farther down the screen, cos it’s nowhere near the avatar up in the top corner…
It’s below my name and all that….
and the ratings categories are spelled out, not just initials.
Neither rapier, whip nor pistol needed with that disarming look!
Perro continues his pertinacious pursuit of the pestiferous pestilential soldiery.
I found this to be worth repeat viewings!
No need for the “P” in the pants. Does Perro have a relative in Taxas?

Oh boy! Perro is going to P their pants! I can hardly wait till Friday! (thank Gaia we have movie poster Thursday to ease the suspense).

Perro robbin the hood today. I like it.
Y’all pack your nutritionist a lunch and fire up the old Nintendo to resurrect your inner Mario. HUGS for all!
See ya in the phunnies
hey! that looks familiar……
but now that you bring it up……if you were to click on this smaller version of the logo at

I suggest you mute your sound; as far as I’m concerned the music the poster set this to is all wrong.
But flying bassets are much more graceful than flying raptors, don’t you agree?
saw this once. it was creepy then.
it’s still creepy
this video seems to keep repeating itself starting at :50 to :56, then goes back to :50 again.
At least it’s enough to get a chuckle (and, a little creeped out) for 6 seconds! (maybe only on my computer…?)
Ooooo! Neat capture!!!
Whippets
And here’s how my mind works:
Hi Old Phart Plods! Don’t know how often I will be by on this new site. Sigh!
For your avatar see my reply to you yesterday.
If you go, your avatar’s full size dog picture is your marker.
And I’ll have you know that I did so take a shower this morning. So there!! 😜
Whippet good.
They will remember him every time they sit down!
Sherpa is down
Is it out?
I just tried it with no luck, as well. Maybe it’s finally down for good……..
New project, maybe?
Love that movie. The whole thing takes place in the lifeboat and Hitch appears in a newspaper advert.
hmm…..maybe.
definitely out for the count.
no saving by the bell.
no protests.
gone.
done.
finito.
LOL!…..kinda sums up C&C.
as sherpa goes down , we easily step onto our website
Rotifer CLEO’S RESURRECTED, LONG LIVE CLEO Thalweg
R.i.p… The iceberg has finally hit.
But thanks to Nighthawks the lifeboat is doing well.
Time to change your username?

it would help if I read the reply to , sorry.
