I was wondering too, because you can say “Denis” for Dennis is Spanish, and it has the same meaning, relating to, or a follower of, Dionysus, while Daniel is totally different.
I didn’t find anything when briefly Googling it…
so I was thinking maybe it was because Daniel is a much more common name in Spanish speaking countries, being Biblical, rather than Greek.
….
But it occurs to me, too, that there’s a totally different comic in England coincidentally called “Dennis the Menace”(a much rougher character) … and in Spain, they may get both.
Maybe the title was already taken by the English “Dennis” when Hank Ketcham’s “Dennis” got to Spain, or maybe the English “Dennis” got to Mexico first (probably via Spain.)
Thank you.
I used Microsoft’s “Word” for the grid, counted squares to the words, and filled in the colours as I went.
I agree with your answer to one down.
But in three minutes my eyes would stray to the questions, and I’m reasonably good at reading upside down,
I just scrolled them off the screen as I would have done with right side up ones.
.
They changed his name to “Daniel” for Spanish language readers? Anybody know why?

Just a guess, in any case.

Interesting picture… the guy nobody thinks about. A job that has to be done.
I Googled it to see if I was right that this is Grand Central Station, and wondering when it would ever be so empty….
and found out that this painting was actually used for a New Yorker cover, by Eric Drooker, March 30th 2020.
…
….
It might be devoid of other people because it’s the beginning of the pandemic… maybe nothing was running?
Kind of spooky, to be alone in all that vastness.
This a link to TRIPADVISOR’S page on the statue.
There are more pictures.
It’s 54 kiliometers from Ulaanbaatar City.
That’s one crazy yurt!
Nice job on the graphic. I was just scribbling letters into the image with my mouse… looks way too horrible to post.
I had all the same answers you do, but I finally came up with 1 down.
“Banana Cream Pie”
It’s a classic for lobbing at faces.
Thank you.

I don’t always read questions, but when I do, I prefer right side up.
P.S.
My powers of observation haven’t improved since yesterday.
If they were right side up you could read them while staring at the picture and know what to look for.
But in three minutes my eyes would stray to the questions, and I’m reasonably good at reading upside down,

My answers for “The CL Challenge”…
and BTW anybody missing #3 has to stay after class, and write “The best dog in the comics is CL_ _” (with the correct answer filled in) 372 times.
…
I discussed the crossword under Alexikakos’ comment.
He posted a nicer looking solution than mine, with the same answers…. I believe I supplied the missing one in my reply.
….
I did miserably on the final test.
Partly because it’s very late, and I was way too sleepy to stare at it for the requisite time.
And partly because… well, because I was terrible at it.
So much for my spying career.
Forgot to say I’m not totally convinced I have #9 correct, but I couldn’t think of anything better. Anyone?
clap on
clap off
the CLAPPER!
In the clear light of day……
But of course.
Sigh….
The hardest part was to hold the computer monitor upside-down with outstretched arms long enough to read the questions.
that would make it a challenge
My laptop is lighter to pick up and hold,
But the picture always rights itself, like one of those weighted, inflatable clown toys,
Or a page on a smartphone.
The things we do for the sake of funny…
Lay t down on a table, then walk to the other side of the table…
😀
Yogurt isn’t the only thing frozen today.
By some calendars, it’s also regular type potato month.
i only had time for one puzzle today, sooooo. it was the easy one … with all the answers beginning with CL. i got them ALL. whooppee!
