Because they’re beautiful and they can sing (and guys, wait for them legs).
The Lyrics (edited in at 00:03 hrs. E.S.T.)
Lyrics
I still remember the piano
Playing the same old melodies
The late-night crowd was wild and loud
But then a shot outside the barroom
And then I saw you for the first time
The way you stepped out of the dark
Up to the bar, said, “Here we are
Whiskey for me, for you Tequila”
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
A man with such a face in such a lonesome place
Can only be a desperado
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
And when I heard you’d stay, I felt it right away
You’d shake my life like a tornado
I still remember the piano
Playing a different melody
You won at cards, you won at darts
Left all the men without a dollar
And now you gotta leave Lorado
They want you out of here by noon
Oh, I can tell I’m in a spell
So, here we go to Amarillo
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
A man with such a face in such a lonesome place
Can only be a desperado
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
And when I heard you’d stay, I felt it right away
You’d shake my life like a tornado
The devil, the devil
The devil (devil, devil, devil, devil, devil, devil, devil, devil)
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
A man with such a face in such a lonesome place
Can only be a desperado
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
And when I heard you’d stay, I felt it right away
You’d shake my life like a tornado
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
A man with such a face in such a lonesome place

The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)

You’d shake my life like a tornado
The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Because he knew that I was there
A man with such a face in such a lonesome place
Can only be a desperado The devil sent you to Lorado (the devil, the devil)
Re: your unwanted reply to meadowmary below; I hope I made the attachment clear.
I noticed the misspelling too; but I put it down to an uncaught spelling error.
There is a Laredo, Spain.
Oh wow…a long awaited revival of that extravagant fantasy….
a tale of castles and knights, full of music… and forbidden love… in days of yore….
BASSELOT!
I start humming when I think of it!
….
The beautiful, somewhat ethereal (for a basset hound) Pawnessa Redgrrrave … I never can remember how many rr’s in that…
has to make a difficult choice, between her ever-steady royal mate, played by that handsome hound, Dickie Hairies….
And her illicit love for the dashing French knight, played by the equally handsome, but Italian, basset, Franco Fur-o.
(An aside… Fur-o’s songs, we now know, were actually howled by a basset with a coincidentally very similar Italian name… but he was born in the US. That was Gino Furry-no… who could howl more passably in French.
And just for Montana Lady, who likes these tidbits…
I believe I’ve posted before that you can still hear him, in reruns, as one of the voices howling the theme song for “Bassegan’s Island”!)
…
This film was a mixed success…. at first panned by the doggy critics…. and rather a failure in theaters…
it nonetheless won THREE Golden Biscuits… for the score, the art direction, and the glorious costumes.
Over the years since, it has achieved “classic” status.
….
The humans did copy the film, of course…
but their English-language poster was different…
What Stel has posted tonight is the copydog Belgian one, which is in French…
They were apparently the only ones to steal her beautiful design.
Same here. 6 degrees when I got up this morning with a windchill of -14 ~~ not to get above 0 today. We usually go out on Thursdays and do a bunch of stuff. Staying home today!
From my mother’s cookbook with a variation in the attachment.
I’ve made my mother’s, and I know it’s good.
Banana Bread (From my mother’s cookbook.)
1 3/4 cups of flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening (lard or vegetable)
2/3 cup of sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1 cup banana pulp (3 to 4 large bananas yields one cup)
Cream together sugar and shortening.
Add eggs and blend well.
Sift together all dry ingredients.
Add the sifted dry ingredients and banana pulp alternately into the creamed sugar and shortening.
Blend well after each addition.
Pour into a well greased loaf pan 9 × 5 × 31/2 inches
Bake at 350° for approximately 1 hour.
Notes from me:
Cook as high in the oven as you can.
Keep an eye on the loaf from the 40 minute mark.
A knife inserted into the centre should come out clean. It’s obvious if it’s not.

Stel, your avatar looks like it’s dancing to this one.
Of course! I planned it that way! [wink, wink]
The one who’s able to lift the basset off that trunk will be King of the whole of Cleveland!!!
Hard pass.
The cat was not dancing, so it was not missed.

“Lorado”? Are they trying to rhyme with “tornado”?
The Texas town is L-a-rado.

How did those ancient sculptors know what Vanessa Redgrave and Richard Harris were going to look like, a millennium later?
I don’t know, but I like the sculpture. Wonder how big it is.
