Back in the 1920’s and 30’s, dogs were a common fashion accessory.

My very fashionable ex mother-in-law, b.1918, always had a fox terrier.

She loved them all, and loved dogs, so they weren’t just an accessory…

But each one was always perfectly groomed, and she posed with her dog in pictures.

I bet in all that low-res verbiage that we can’t read, it says right on the box that food is not included, and/or that the picture is a simulation.

But people neither read nor understand the small print, even in a huge font.

In fact, if it says “simulation”…

I actually knew someone who ordered “faux” pearls from the back of a magazine, for a gift, thinking “faux” must mean some variety of real pearls.

You can’t be too careful with vocabulary.

Also, I love that she no doubt bought them unrefrigerated, probably against the wall past the cash registers, nowhere near any food…

but thought they contained meat, and needed to be stored in the freezer.

Nice to see Claude and Cleo ganging up on Clara for a change.

Three good music selections, but the one with Willie Nelson and Ray Charles is especially dear.

For a change?

I thought that was the usual situation, especially when it comes to puns, chez Clifford.

Well, I can’t play like that. But, “Lyin’ Eyes ” is on my go-to list.

Give Cleo OR Claude an inch, and they’ll take a foot.

But unless they toe the line, Clara is going to sock them….

In fact, she’s about to give them the boot.

I’m sure we’ve all heard the expression,”putting your foot in your mouth”…

Is there an expression for when she puts HER foot in their mouths?

If she’s going to make them eat her feet!

No… Wait….
Yikes…

I think “pedo” is “child“… so… eating children?

I didn’t make it up!

It’s was one of those Greek guys, like, I dunno, Zeus or something.

“-Phagy” = “eating”.

“Paedo” would be the correct spelling for “child”. “Pedo” has made it into common language, though…
“Pedo” actually means “foot”…
“Pediatric” applies to grown-ups, too. My shoes don’t contain children (I hope)…

I simplified it a whole lot… wanting to make a joke.. and not to get pedantic.

The spelling “paedo” is used in England, not the US, or rarely in the US.

“Ae” has largely been dropped from most (but not all) words here, even in academic circles, for close to 100 years.

We still have aegis and aerial and some others, however in prefixes, “pedo” isn’t just “common language”, but perfectly correct.

….

The confusion actually stems from the fact that “ped” is derived from both “foot” in Latin (pes) and “child” (I can’t remember what… It’s 3am) in Greek.

To complicated it further, “pod” comes from the Greek for “foot.”

Mostly, but not always, the “pedi” words are foot related, the “pedo” and “peda” ones (US spelling) are related to child or teaching…

But a pediatrician is a children’s doctor, not for adults or feet… go figure.

In English, a podiatrist is a foot doctor…

Even though toenail trimming is a pedicure.

I love fruit pies too.

Unless you’d like my lemon meringue?

Not crazy about that, though I’d take it over pecan pie.

Doesn’t matter though…

I’ll share whatever you like, and also eat that horrible coconut torte for you.

Before I go to bed… and not wanting to do that before the Eagles finish “Lyin’ Eyes”…

I’m going to repost something from yesterday.

Happy³ had posted a cartoon from Don Martin, commenting on his being the best at comic sound effects.

Do go back there and see, especially if you’re a Martin or MAD fan…

But in case you don’t….

….

It reminded me of this:

Don Martin’s wife, in charge of his estate and legacy, once tried to sue cartoonist Lynn Johnston,

because she also draws comical sounds, in her strip, “For Better or For Worse”.

The judge threw it out.

It’s not a myth. Lynn wrote about it.

Lynn seemed to think it was rather funny.

She kind of excused Mrs. Martin on the basis of perhaps still grieving, which may have clouded her judgment.
