as far as the ‘great’ part, you’ll have to speak for yourself. 😉 but I knew if you’d seen this first you’d-a posted it.
I ran into it on “the Far Side’ website this morning and it was too uncannily like the pod pics to NOT post
Apparently that statistic goes back and forth, because shark deaths and vending machine “kills” are both so infrequent that every incident changes the balance.
The year the article containing that quote was written, there were 5 vending machine deaths and one shark death in the US.
But vending machine deaths have been far fewer since then, mostly attributed to warning notices placed on them in the last 10 or 12 years.
….
Outside the US there were, and always are, far fewer such accidents anyway. None in ultra polite Japan, which has far more machines.
I did read that in 2021 there were 9 shark deaths worldwide out of 37 attacks… only a small number of which were unprovoked.
I didn’t see the exact U.S. number… or any vending machine statistics… but it was implied that there were very few of either, and maybe even none.
…
The stats are kind of unfair to vending machines, anyway.
Sharks very seldom attack people, but vending machines never do.
Most deaths from the latter occur when someone attempts to shake or tilt a machine, to retrieve change or steal product, not realizing how heavy they are, and the whole thing falls on them and crushes them.
The poor machine did nothing… Somebody made it fall down, and nobody talks about whether it got hurt in the process.
I bet if you tried to shake or tilt a shark, especially if you persist until you get money out of it, you would have an even higher chance of injury or death.
.
Very hypnotic; mesmerizing.
Great with Billy Joel in the background.
even greater with zorba in the background, too.
..
I could enjoy going there for a glass or two,
as long as I lived downhill from there.
What a beautiful place!

Invasion of the Pod People?
Or invasion of the people pods.
Too tight. Better put the kids in a different pod, or they’ll drive you crazy.
didn’t think of that!!!
Took me a moment to realize that the upper floor is cut away to show the bottom floor.
I wondered how the heck you could access that bureau, or whatever it is, with one foot of floor in front of it and no railing.
Oh. I see.
Never mind.
Yurt city?
They’re not mud & hide, so it must be New Yurt City.
I’d like to know where this is …. and whether the people live there willingly.
Earthquake-proof dome houses in Japan.
.
Darn! My laptop refused to take screenshots today until I rebooted it.
Great minds…

That’s where I wanted to take a screenshot from.

“Who is that handsome devil?”
he might be checking out the fish under there , trying to figure out how to get them
I saw my first eagle for this spring. I’ll be seeing the osprey soon.
I would have expected a greater understanding of vending machines from a creature that can drive a tank.
I’ve never seen a shark using a vending machine so far.

Funny!! Well, the last part ~ not all the deaths…no matter how few or from what.
Pears Hélène
