I’ve looked it up before but never found anything… Hard to figure out the right search terms that don’t lead to other stuff.
But tonight I found this: “A ‘nub’ on the axle hits a long, thin, and flexible piece of metal with each rotation; this is what creates the sound. (and it really does sound like a duck!)”
I was going to delete my question, but just on the off chance anybody else wants to know, though I doubt it…
Cute!
The ones further above are geese and goslings from the Botanical Garden Munich last week (pictures taken by my husband).
Where and when are your Canadian Geese located?
these were taken on the missouri river at great falls. they are also nearby on the missouri. we get them flying all over. the missouri is about 10 miles away.
Hmmm… Usually by this time, someone or several people have tried to find the differences in the Saturday puzzle….
Where are all my puzzle people?
Oh… it’s Cinco de Mayo… And this year it conveniently falls on a Friday!
I didn’t think this was that sort of crowd… But is everybody out celebrating?
Have a good time!
…
Ah well, you have another 22 hours or so to find the differences, and far more time than that…. years, in fact, if you don’t mind coming back to a previous page.
In fact, I like to think someone (or many someones) will happen upon Cleo and Company, in say, 3057, and think, “Wow, great cartoon. I sure wish I could go back to the early 21st century, and join in, when all these people were having so much fun!”
Then he or she, or whoever, will do the puzzle, and enjoy it… and our answers will still be hidden with spoiler tags, so as not to ruin the fun!
…
Which reminds me… Even if nobody is ready right now…
I’m sure someone will want the solution.
When you finish your margaritas, and scrape up the last of the guacamole with the last half a tortilla chip…
turn your brain towards finding differences.
And when you’ve gone as far as you can…. you can compare our findings
Dang it! One of your differences I had marked as two separate diffs. So I overlooked one that, even now, I have a hard time seeing. Once again, I come up a day late & a difference short.
It only took a few minutes to find eight. I have to call it a night and I’ll be busy tomorrow, so I won’t be able to try again until sometime in the afternoon.
Yes.
Might be a molehill in his case or – since he probably has offspring to feed – an ant-hill. If there are any yet.
Or he is hungry himself and waits to be fed by those mountain-high wingless creatures nearby.
.
See? You can get your ducks in row!
I had a wooden pull toy like this about 1 million years ago, except they walked on land.
It made quacking noises. Quack quack quack.
I was very little and I loved the sound, and how it stopped, and started again when the ducks were pulled..
…
I’ve seen similar ones since then, and they still quack. Kind of a metallic noise.
I’ve always meant to find out how that works, cos they’re solid wood…
Some metal bits to join them together but no batteries or even a wind up mechanism.
Anybody know how they quack?
…
My little brother a bit later had a plastic wind-up one for the bath. The feet were sort of like propellers.
I don’t remember whether it quacked.
I do know this live duck has a lot more ducklings than the toys did.
Hah!

I decided to share.
You’re welcome.
I seem to remember those. I can’t remember if it was my brothers or my sisters.
.
No; they’re not unaccompanied:
Yesterday:
.
these are not ducks. will geese do?
Cute!

In my part of the world, golf courses.
these were taken on the missouri river at great falls. they are also nearby on the missouri. we get them flying all over. the missouri is about 10 miles away.
Watch until the end.

..
Stolen. I’m going to use that someplace.
Coincidently, today’s xkcd:
Funny!! I am one of a number of people that have read this plaque. I’m honored!
I can’t argue with that.
,,.
Wow.
… long necked cervical collar?
Or a chokehold?
I think maybe I’ll turn around… and… um… go back the other way.
If that’s like the thunderstorms we had here yesterday the other way looks pretty much the same…
Uh oh.
But only horizontal lightnings.
Quite spectacular.
Good windows, therefore hardly any thunder audible. 😉
we had a loooong t-storm on thursday. and, an even longer one this afternoon.
Doggies!
I’m not going to try this one,
My big brother brought the blues into our house, and my mother loved to say “Hit the Road Jack.”
Boom Boom was a favorite of mine.
I loved the way they snuck the Blues Brothers into “Boom Boom.”
It’s a scene from that movie.
That’s why Hooker was there too.
Why not try it?
It’s quite do-able.
I’d say maybe a bit harder than last week, but by no means impossible.
In fact, as usual, a couple of difference are pretty obvious and a couple are fairly devious, but most are in between-ious.

I’ve got ten plausible ones. Let”s check…
Yessss!
Not really about the differences; but, I did notice Max is one of the pictured dog’s names. Are the others the names of prior dogs you’ve had?
Thanks for the question! No….that’s pure coincidence in this case, but thanks for asking!!
nine, oh well!
today i only got 3. would’nt have found more. bummer.
🎵 In the year 3057….🎵 Got 9 ~ shouldn’t have missed the one I did.

I found 8 right away too, and the last two took a bit longer.
One was kind of hard, but the other was just me, cos it was obvious once I found it.
In any case… They’ll still be here tomorrow!
Robin!
View (?) of your mountains??
Yes.
Might be a molehill in his case or – since he probably has offspring to feed – an ant-hill. If there are any yet.

we had our first robins a week ago. quite colorful!
We have some that hang around all winter.
Strong birds.
a day of contrasts
loved willie nelson’s video!!!
