It amazes me when an artist can get such realistic details with such broad, rough strokes.

Bob Ross…

Bob Ross was cool for teaching amateurs not to be afraid of trying to make a painting… but, sorry, his work came nowhere near this level of realism.

In fact, on TV, he painted from images in his head, not from life, and produced what I’d call decorative art.

He’d probably add a happy little cloud. 😁☁️

My son heard him say he painted from pictures hidden from camera range. Either way, he/we love his work…and admire him as a kind, warm human being.

I was trying to find the name of the artist, but since Google trashed image search, you have to use Lens, which found only one source, all in Russian, and I couldn’t tell which name was the artist’s.

Lens also turned up a painting that sold on Etsy for around $60 that has to be a bad copy of this one!

There’s no way it was the other way around, and I can’t see it being a coincidence.

I guess the Etsy artist copies other people’s art and calls it her own.

Had I not seen the other one, which I’d call the original, it would have seemed OK-ish, but not great. Now it just seems wrong.

What do you think:

There’s an old riddle, or puzzler….

Say you move to a small town, and find that there are only two barbers…

One is very well groomed. His hair looks perfect..

The other is rather untidy, his haircut a bit ragged.

Which do you choose to patronize?

Most people will say the first one.

But think…

They must cut each other’s hair… so go to the one with the worst haircut, because he did the best one.

….

True story:

Years ago, I bought a used station wagon from a mechanic… it was beat up, and had high mileage, so it was cheap, but the engine was great.

He cared about keeping it running well, because his wife drove their two little boys in it, but not about its appearance.

She told me she was “tired of looking like a mom”, so she bought a sporty red car instead…
which almost immediately broke down.

I drove her old car for 15 years, till it hit over 225,000 miles.

A refrigerator weighs far more than a washer or dryer.

I wonder how hard it is on their backs to carry a fridge, and of there’s any weight compensation in the straps.

Double pulleys, by some sort of physics magic* can reduce weight… But there are no pulleys here.

And to a lesser degree, so can neoprene, but probably not with something so heavy.

Did they seem ok with it?

* Yeah yeah, I studied it. You don’t have to explain it. I just find it non-intuitive and hard to believe.

I’m not sure what you’re saying is different in Germany.

Does a fridge not weigh more than a washer there?

I do know that refrigerators tend to be much smaller in Europe than the huge ones people buy here…. Just like the cars.

It’s only recently that Americans started waking up to fuel economy…

but plenty still drive big cars, and most still.want 22 cu ft refrigerators, a size rarely seen in Europe.

I kinda thought so.

The thing is, in the US, we no longer have many specialty markets…

It’s getting harder and harder, except maybe in large cities, to find a butcher, a fish market, or a cheese shop … even bakeries and small delis, that were still plentiful in the 1990s, are disappearing.

I still go occasionally to a produce market, run by one local farm, and to a farmers market. The bakery where I bought my favorite bread closed years ago. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a butcher shop in this country.

Most people here nowadays buy all their food at a supermarket, and may shop for a week or two at one time, storing everything in their big refrigerator and its large freezer.

The soldier reminds the dragon of an old flame.

He’s pretty small, compared to her… but she thinks he’s pretty hot.

The lioness admires the lion’s stony stare, even in the face of danger.

She also impressed that he was chosen for the mane library.

She thinks he loves her… but he hasn’t given her anything concrete to go on.

She might have to take a stand.
