And on the original Star Trek, with Kirk, all the women had the shortest possible skirts. While the men had those ridiculous pants overhanging their boots.
My Dad switched team loyalties to be or stay a Willie Mays fan.
He was born in Brooklyn, moved to California, but always stayed a Dodgers fan, till Mays joined the Giants.
I think we lived in Cleveland at the time. I was a little kid so I didn’t understand the flak.
After a bunch of moves, living overseas, then the Midwest, California again, military retirement, etc, I don’t remember who he followed at various times, not always New York….
but I know he switched to the San Francisco Giants when Willie Mays came out here.
His parents, his sister and BiL were all Oakland A’s fans.
I don’t follow sports but I know there was more flak.
Funny how futuristic or historical design is almost always presented in the epitome of contemporary style from when it’s drawn.
I.e, these “future” vehicles reflect an extremely fashionable view of 1950’s design…
While, for instance, the 1860’s Civil War gowns in 1939’s “Gone with the Wind” show perfect details of very stylish 1930’s dresses.
We think new movies accurately depict ancient history or future civilizations… 30 years from now, 2023 will be obvious in the costumes, vehicles, and furnishings.
…
When will we get those lovely, clear, Art Moderne highway support pillars?
Who but the Beatles could have recorded a song like this (When I’m 64) as a rock band in 1963? Showing their appreciation of an older music styles while addressing a question none of their fans wanted to consider? I imagine John hated it.
And now here we are, many of us past that magic age.
.
Notice how all the girls have low cut space suits?
Well, of course. Just like in real life. 😉 🙄

Apropos: The second season of “Star Trek – Strange New Worlds” has started.
Oh, yes – the concluding lines (I just watched that first episode) do bring tears to my eyes.
Cheers to Nichelle Nichols!
and form fitted, not baggie.

Let him into the house, you jerks!
Looks like he’s old and it’s raining.
And maybe the air is more refreshing outside.
That dog doesn’t look being forced to stay where it is or unhappy.
NOSE!

Say hey kid! I’m a fan. 🙂

I believe we have seen these three musketeers previously.
Yes.
I was wondering when that was so I could check those pictures.
Scaredy-cat row.

and here we have a happy Russian family in their flying car making their way to the Mayday parade
I’m guessing they’re not going very fast with that tight curve there. You know, physics and all.
Good illustration of the size of the continent.
It’s a lot bigger than most people think.
It would be even more telling to overlay those California and Italy maps…
Big as California looked in those, Texas is about 1⅔ its size, and over twice as large as Italy.
Even small African countries have more land than most European nations…. and more people.
Some of the fastest growing populations on the planet. We continue to ignore them at our future peril
..
I usually say wow about now.
I just don’t have the vocabulary any more for anything more than that.
Wow.
I’ve loved bluebirds since I was little (not that I see any here.)
They make me think of Snow White and other early Disney heroines.
our bluebird house broke last week. don’t have a clue if they flew away or not.
🙁

Don’t forget the line
“You’ll be older, too”.
I read that Paul actually wrote it as a very young teenager, in the mid 1950s, before he was familiar with the music that became rock and roll.
His father played music hall tunes, and this was in that style.
The bluebird in today’s strip is devoted to his quiet mate.
She may seem kind of stiff, but she really has him pegged… she knows how to hold onto him, and keep him hanging on.
…
Grandma is a widow, but she’s enjoying a late life romance with this stately grandfather.
He’s pretty darn old, but she can still get him wound up.
She has the key to his heart.
Speaking of which, he still has a good strong ticker, and he stands straight and tall.
fudge day
bluebirds and grandmas! what a mix.
of course i can relate with them both!
Yay nearsighted lovers
