Stel, I always admired your art in Oklahounda. And now you have set us up for a great Independence Day with all of these patriotic videos.
Happy Fourth, everyone. Even those from other countries. Do something independent today.
barbecued spare ribs
YO! Right here with those!
.,
Oh!
I have to admit that I was expecting our little Fourth of July Basset Fife and Drum Corps, not a movie, tonight.
I miss them… but I do love this movie.
A staple since childhood…
and Doggers and Weimaraner’s very first musical collaboration….
the enduringly popular “Oklahounda”!
….
So many memories!
I confess, some of this I may have told before….
My parents bought the stage musical recording of Oklahounda, with John Raitt, when I was little, then took us all to see the movie when it was new.
They loved it… and I grew up loving it too …
And singing (very badly!) those now well-known tunes.
Imitating Gloria Grrram’s twangy howling of “I’m Just a Dog Who Cain’t Hear ‘No!’ ” …
trying to do high kicks like the impossibly-limber-for-a-basset Charlotte Greenbone’s Old Aunt Yeller…
and, of course, attempting duets with myself….
switching between a childish tenor for Gordy MacHound, or John Raitt, and a squeaky falsetto for the lovely Shirley JoBasset….
“Don’t put… your paw on mine….”
“But I saw…. how you gnaw on mine….”
“No! Don’t put… your paw on mine…
People will say I’m in heat!”
Siiigh….
I haven’t seen a production of it in years…
I suppose it’s considered hopelessly old fashioned, and some parts are dated.
But I’ll be happy to get another chance!
They’re here!
The Fife and Drum Corps are here!
Yay!!!
…
My internet has been flaky, and a few images weren’t opening.
Now I see that they’re marching along… my Fourth of July staple.
I went and found their music.
YAY!! Thanks.
Here’s their music….
I discovered a year or two ago that the link stopped working here unless I post it in a spoiler box.
Otherwise WordPress changes the URL.
I have no idea why…. except this way it works.
Preferably, right click it and open it in a new window…
Then you’ll have the bassets and music at the same time.
[audio src="https://archive.org/details/MusicOfTheRevolutionaryWar/EarlofDorchestersMarch.mp3" /]
It opens on the march I chose for this trio…. but you can play about 30 others on the page.
Have Fife and Drum music all day!
Good fireworks music too… a background for the virtual ones posted here.
