Chaplin’s first film for his own production company, and I think his first three reeler.
A very young Cleo Clifford tried out for the dog role, but didn’t get it.
…
After a year or two of acting classes, to which she stubbornly paid little attention, she had somehow refined her craft, or just gotten old enough, to be cast, co-starring with Chaplin, in his “The Basset.”
The film had been made with a human boy, and did all right.
But Chaplin astutely recognised that it would do even better with an adorable basset hound puppy, instead, and it was reshot and redistributed, with wondrous results.
That was Cleo’s big movie break, that eventually led to her own comic strip, then Cleo and Company Productions, with her starring in its first all-basset movies, and finally, to all that we see today….
Major basset movie success, with international canine stars, and Cleo’s own website!
.
Beautiful! Some kind of weevil if I’m not mistaken…
See no weevil, hear no weevil, speak no weevil.
I can’t speak weevil, either.
hahahahahaha …

Uh oh… a boo-boo?
Insect eyes are so amazing.
Amalfi Coast , Southern Italy
just a tad overcrowded?

But gorgeous.
And plenty of places to wander, including the beautiful Mediterranean.

Well, he may be from another planet, but he’s still a dog. Anything for a treat.
