I like it in motion. I never cared for his work until when the interactive exhibit came around. There were were rooms of swirling water and skies, and the flowers waving in the breeze… I loved it.
Well, I’ve always loved Van Gogh, so my experience might be different.
To me this gif is quite beautiful … but also reminds me a bit too much of vertigo attacks, and also visual migraines, both of which have sent me to the ER in the past.
I love looking at it, but when I think of living with that vision all the time, I get queasy.
And the movie was filmed in those odd, cartoony colors. Trying to portray the golden colors of the sun on a Pacific Island, and failed miserably.
When I was in SP, the director insisted on the human version. Something about the provencial nature of the area. He pointed out how silly it looked in “Oklahoma” for the cowboys to dance like a chorus line and made sure to choreograph the dances to look like sailors stumbling around on the beach.
The exception was the scene where each sailor had a tango turn with “Bloody Mary”, which was pretty smooth.
Thanks, everybody!!! I’ve been thinking about doing this for the longest time (months!)….. ask Nighthawks! Now, I’ve got to come up with something else. Any ideas out there???
No guarantees I’ll do it (or do it quickly), but I will try like Hell.
What about a front/three quarters of a heavy steam locomotive with the rolling smoke? I know it’s been done as I’ve seen gifs, but it might be something you could have a go at.

Once again with my parents buying and playing the Broadway cast album long before the film came out, and then eventually the movie soundtrack.
We listened to both for years, but the LP finally won out for convenience.
….
Those early Broadway albums were on 78s, an actual album of them, their paper covers attached to a spine, like a book.
Breakable 78s, that had to be loaded on the turntable, played and turned over, with the needle carefully placed.
Three kids under 12, each having favorite songs to hear.
What could possibly go wrong?

It took me ages to realise that they sounded different because the roles were played by different people.
My mother always preferred listening to Easy-O Pinscher, instead of Rossano Basseti… till, alas, the 78 of “This Kibble Was Mine” bit the dust.

Or course, the stage cast was chosen for their singing ability.
The movie cast… um… maybe not so much.
In those days, dubbing was hidden, as though it were a shameful secret.
Some people knew, just by listening. But I’m unfortunately not one of those people.
In recent years it has come to light that of the major cast, only Mitzi Houndor did her own singing.
I mean, most of the others sang, but their voices were replaced.
