What a great show; Zero Bassetel in Piddler. So many others came after Zero, some of them outstanding as well, but it remains Zero’s role. He doesn’t howl so much as growl his way through it. It has to be a tremendously difficult role to take on, because you are almost always on stage.
It hasn’t for ages, it’s a rule in their comment policy. It’s the reason I got banned from commenting there, even though there was an an informal agreement (From some time ago) that we could as long as they were dead-end links (Pictures, not Websites)
I gave up my premium status there because of the over zealous application of that policy. My money won’t go to them anymore. And I told them why, not that it will make any difference…
That explains @YaketySax’s post today; it was just “>”. He typically posts links, often without explanation. Oddly, I see more “bad” words slipping through now.
The live basset stage musical…. starring the inimitable Zero Bassetel!
With the original choreography by Jerome Doggins.. Oh, my… can it get any better?
…
Be sure to watch for Bea Bea Arfur…. you’ll recognise her by her husky growl, along with her imposing height (for a basset hound)… which helped propel her to television stardom on BTV’s Paw’d, and later the Golden Lab Girls.
Of course, the great Zero Bassetel needs no introduction.
I’ve always wondered why his dogparents named him Zero, though…. he grew up to be anything but!
…
Trivia…. how many know that the book for this musical was adapted from short tales written by celebrated Doggish storyteller, Sholem I’like’em?
But the title (and the poster) were suggested by several paintings by the Russian-French Doggish artist, Bark Shagall.
….
As you can see in Stel’s first “comment”… the humans did a Pale imitation….
(That’s actually a horrible pun I once explained, but probably everyone has forgotten… sigh…)
Since the human production starred, you know… people… in the canine roles, it lacks the charm of the basset original.
And with their human delicacy, they pussyfooted (always a bad sign) around the title, and called it “Fiddler,” instead of “Piddler.
So there’s no organic reason for them to have copied the aptly-colored yellow background of Stel’s “Piddler” poster.
I auditioned for a part in Fiddler many years ago. I had been in an industrial accident and had my arm in a cast in a sling. When I landed the role of the innkeeper, I announced that I was happy to be “In The Cast”.
I got the cast off the day before I drove the wife to the hospital for the birth of our third child.
I brought my balailaika to rehersal one night and played a tune or two. The director insisted I wear the sling and carry the balailaika on stage.
I can definitely see room for one more.
5 NOSES!
What is that other – human? – creature doing astride that rooster?
She’s human… I don’t know whether you’re having the same problem I did at first…
But it was hard to tell, until i realized that her head is turned sideways, over the top of the rooster’s head.
Once you get your bearings you can easily see her human features.
that would be banned in gocomics
and just for good measure, you would be banned for bringing the whole subject up in the first place
Time magazine for February 27th, 1928.
From the Wikipedia article on the basset hound:
“The accompanying story was about the 52nd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden as if observed by the Basset Hound puppy.”
According to a couple of sites, this cover started a fad for bassets that helped lead to their popularity in the US.
NOSE!!
This is how I plan to be buried. Interred, really.
You’d better start saving up.
I think this is his outer, gilded coffin, made of plaster and wood… Last I heard, it was still in the process of being fully restored.
But the inner one is made of well over two hundred pounds of pure gold.
Close to $6,000,000 worth, at the current price of gold…. plus the cost of designing, casting, and decorating it.
What’s that you say? I’m supposed to pay for it? Phooey. Where’s the fun in that?
Just get yourself elected Pharaoh…

I agree, but i did like the movie. 🙂
I like the dancing basset in the lower left corner.
gocomics doesn’t allow links anymore.

They class it as Spam.
But it worked. It doesn’t now.
I think they finally figured out people are getting around their rules, by posting URLs that are not live links, so they’re simply cracking down.
I’ve been expecting it ever since they posted their policy…
In fact I’m surprised that it took this long.
I’m not surprised. ;->
Just delivering the news.
If they’d done this a couple of months ago, maybe I wouldn’t have been banned.
If someone doesn’t like you so much that they flag you multiple times, they’ll do that no matter what.
TFTB @ don’t give a beep or beep or even a beep if a ban is rectified or not.

susan, you are so full of ‘stuff’ where musicals are all about. the things i learn by just reading the comics! you’re great!
Awww shucks… Blush…
lemon meringue pie
Judging by the fork and the lemon slice, that is a tiny slice of pie!
Not just skimpy, actually miniature, like from a toy pie pan.
That’s about as much as I’m allowed.
Actually about as much as I want, lemon not being my favorite.
Unless it’s made out of Meyer lemons.
But oranges would be better.
looks great as is!
unless they replaced sugar with salt in the recipe
Looks like the EWC has made a friend
NOSE!
which one!
the ‘animal’, of course……..
another wonderful poster stel! i especially like all the music videos!
