An old friend’s late father had worked on it when it was being built.
He was only a teenager, but he lied about his age.
Part of a small gang of Portuguese workers, he hardly spoke English. They were treated the same way many different groups of immigrant laborers have been treated over the years… Not well.
Short and muscly, and learning to be an ironworker, he walked on the suspension cables and climbed the towers, helping pull other cables into place. No safety harnesses like they have today.
He told his sons that there were accidents that got covered up, and mistakes made… in fact my friend always told me there were still a few bodies in the cement… though I don’t really believe that.
But he was always proud of having built the bridge.
He was gone years before I met his son, but I got to see the photo album of snapshots he took while a bridge worker.
I have also turned around under the bridge entrance…
No, wait, that was on the Bay Bridge, going toward San Francisco from the East Bay.
I got in the wrong lane going north and had to get on the bridge…
The signs back then were very confusing. They never said North only East and West, and you had to know North was East, but it was my first time alone and I didn’t.
West was SF. (They’ve since added North and Marin County to the signage).
…
I was going to just drive home through San Francisco.
But the toll taker looked at my face and said “Don’t you want to go to San Francisco?”
I said no, I want to go north.
….
He pushed a button that turned the lights red and stopped ALL the traffic, gave me directions home, and pointed me to a little road that went under the bridge and back the other way…
Traffic was stopped till I was on the eastbound exit…
It doesn’t snow heavily on the Sphinx, in spite of the news about the first snowfall in Egypt in many years. Tourists were not standing in hip deep snow.
You can’t touch it, much less clamber over the legs and sit on them.
….
According to my search, this is a photograph of a 1/25 scale model of the Great Sphinx of Giza, located in Tobu World Square theme park in Nikko, Japan.
It went viral when somebody posted it on the internet and said it was in Egypt, after the news about the snow
But it was supposed to be a joke.
….
Still…. How are the tourists able to sit on a 1/25 scale model, and why does it tower over their heads…
Well, the real Sphinx is 66 feet tall, about a dozen people height…
And all those tourists in this picture are also models. Not fashion models… Tiny fake people.
I’m late – sick. Hot days and tropical nights.
I wanted to let in some cooler air – but thanks to the construction site next to our balcony, the air smells like diesel fuel. Charming.
No; AC isn’t common here – and our “nice” landlord would get a stroke if we put a hole in the wall for an effective one. – On the other hand… 😉
The bedroom faces to the street – we aren’t even allowed to install roller blinds.
And window units aren’t very effective. Energy prices sky-rocketed since 2022-02-24…

Basset crossed with West Highland White? Bassa-poo? Malti-basset?
Must be some kind of cross!
Gotta love his sweet face, and the long white hairs that got mixed into his ears.
NOSE!

Pretty amazing.

Have been to Fort Point under the bridge.

An amazing moment in my life!
I’ve never even been to California
we escaped in 2006!
Well go!
I’ve been to Indiana (a long time ago)… It’s only fair.
Just seeing that mass of people makes me shiver. I don’t like crowds.
thanks, susan!

Standing in real Japanese snow.
The way the snow sits around the figures screams out “Model.” Not to mention the tag in the bottom RH corner of the picture.
The tag was my first clue. 😁
Well, along with the snow.
I knew it couldn’t be real, but I didn’t know where it was.
For a few minutes I even thought it was a giant tag and real people.
…
But aside from them looking like model railroad people, yes… real people move.
They don’t stand still while the snow gets deep and traps them in place.
BTW, there’s also a version on the web with the tag edited out.
5 noses!

I, for one, do not think I would trust an alligator to save my life.
On Aug. 19, 1909, the inaugural race occurred at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
I got all ten! Wohoo!
Me too!
9 🙁
BUNNY!
I shouldn’t get distracted by all the other pictures when surely somebody must be waiting for today’s solution…
though so far only Mr. Sherman has mentioned doing the puzzle.
Well, I’m going to give it to you anyway…
Hopefully people will need it soon!
You know the drill… Find ten differences… THEN you can check them against mine by clicking
Got the same ten.

Take care, the extreme heat can be dangerous.
we just have just ended our heat wave at high 90’s. today will be 75! hooray!
Not even a window unit for the bedroom, so you can sleep?

I got seven. That’s okay by me. It’s above 50%. 😀
Those I miss are usually the result of missing the forest for the trees.
yum!
you mean?
Got it. You’re a real pro. (aka daleandkristen)
Boo! 😀
