Today’s Songs:
‘Green-Eyed Lady,’ ‘Green Onions,’ ‘Green Tambourine,’ and ‘Have I the Right,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe ‘Artichoke Hummus.’
Yes, ‘Have I the Right’ is the same video nighthawks posted yesterday, but this is what’s in my list of songs I like for today.
I have an extra picture link today leading to Anne Margot (Honey) Lantree’s obituary in ‘The Guardian.’ There is a good bit of music history in it.
It was on her 21st birthday when ‘Have I the Right’ bumped ‘Doo Wa Diddy Diddy’ from the number one slot.

I love Green Onions, specially Booker T’s!

Anne Margot Lantree, so glad you posted her obit. Thanks!

I always love seeing this video! Cab Calloway really took the role of conductor and ran with it, and the Nicholas Brothers are just too much! Leaping down those stairs two at a time – ouch!

The dancing ! !
I’ve often wondered if the pianos people dance on are in a reinforced box (for lack of a better word) or especially made.
Any piano I’ve come across in my life would collapse if two full grown men landed on it.
Or a woman, for that matter.

I went looking, but could find nothing.

You always see male cardinals, but rarely a female in any art.

Well, she’s a bit less photogenic, to some people…

Dances with Bassets had to happen, and naturally Cleo Clifford had to be the female lead. But it’s hard for me to picture her in a tutu in the middle of the prairie in the wild west of America. Unless she was the prima ballerina in a traveling ballet troupe, barnstorming across the continent, came to (fill-in-the-blank) – town, where she meets Kevin Costner and it may as well be named Kismet.

Ah, you see… the wild bassets of the prairies, like the tribe that took in this soldier, had a fully developed culture, which we are only just beginning to understand.

Ballet was only one of their adopted dance forms, having been taught them by Russian traders roughly 120 years before this story begins, and passed down to their puppies for generations.

Another dance involved waddling around a campfire wearing feathers.

That’s the sort of primitive looking thing seized upon by those who told tales of the wild West, ignoring their more sophisticated arts.

Oooh…. what a great movie… one of those rare basset/human co-productions….

and very realistic in its portrayal of Basset culture, which is so often misunderstood.

Cleo is perfect for Two-Ballet-Socks, isn’t she.

Gets that audience empathy thing going the moment they see her.

And Kevin Costner. Wow.

Who thought she’d ever star opposite Kevin Costner?

Too bad she couldn’t have been the one to marry him in this film….

But Howlywood and Hollywood are both scared to break the “rules.”

They just had to put a human woman in the story for him to marry….

and a beautiful one.

And of course, she was only attracted to him, as well, even though she was raised by bassets, and mostly spoke in barks.

In spite of his great love for Two-Ballet-Socks, he just couldn’t break convention by marrying a basset, could he…

so of course he married “Throws-a-Stick”, the human.

Oh well… at least when Two-Ballet-Shoes runs after him, they don’t shoot her.

I was worried, cos I’d heard something about a different version, with a wolf….

They supposedly tested it and decided a basset appealed much more to audiences.

So after a few lackluster opening weeks, they scrapped the wolf version…

Which I can’t imagine anyway, cos wolves don’t dance.

Nighthawks’ picture of the beach gorilla reminded me of this image that was going around the Internet awhile back.

A chubby lady with a full head of frizzy, curly hair, possibly enjoying a nude swim.

The full head of hair appears to be a bathing cap. And I see no evidence the subject is female.

And Mr Sherman…

I was just giving the description that was attached to it in various online postings.

Yeah, my first thought was that it wasn’t really female.

My next thought was OMG!
