Another example of his perfect draftsmanship and soaring imagery in the background.
The lines are a bit less delicate in this one, and some are white on black, because it’s mostly drawn in perfect imitation of a woodcut.
In his youth, he taught himself to draw by copying woodcut illustrations in books, thinking they were pen and ink.
He only went to art school briefly, in his teens or young adulthood. and left for a paid position as an illustrator, and he always retained the ability to use that woodcut technique.
I saw the same thing happen on a very busy street in San Francisco.
It was in the financial district, all high rise buildings, some with stores on the street level.
Around 5pm, two lanes packed in each direction, but very slow, due to heavy traffic and stoplights on almost every corner.
…
I was waiting for a bus at a busy stop. Across the street, the block was bisected by a very narrow one way alley, exiting towards me.
A huge double-trailer semi appeared in the traffic on that side, ie, going in the opposite direction from the way my bus would be heading. It stopped just past the alley.
The driver put on his red emergency lights, got out of the cab and started waving some people into the other lane.
Before I could totally absorb the situation, he got back in, turned the cab slightly, pulled forward, backed up, and magically backed both trailers and then the cab into that tiny alley, so he was facing the correct way to drive out.
…
I don’t think there was room to ride a bicycle next to him.
As my bus approached, a fellow had come out of the building bedside him, and they were starting to unload his truck.
I really wanted to go congratulate him but I had to get on the bus.
Today’s Songs:
‘Marrakesh Express,’ ‘Mendocino,’ ‘Michelle,’ and ‘Miss Otis Regrets,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe ‘Avocado Egg Salad.’
Graham Nash wrote the song after a train ride in Morocco in 1966 while on vacation. The other members of his other well know band, ‘The Hollies,’ didn’t like it, so it didn’t see airplay until 1969 with ‘Crosby Stills & Nash’ (I still have some shark teeth from a business trip my dad took to Morocco in the early sixties / mine site / chemical engineer / U.S. customs was a lot easier going then).
Two and a bit hours at an azimuth of (call it 230° / typographical error correction at 07:34hrs. E.D.T. that’s 320°) will allow Susan to tour ‘Big River Beach’ in Mendocino.
Sir Paul McCartney does not speak French.
From her ‘…Live at Last ‘ album (I balked at the Canadian price, made a special trip to Bellingham; came back home and bought it because the U.S. price was higher, by actual U.S. dollar figures, than the Canadian price ) we still enjoyed the trip though. Bellingham was, and I hope still is, a nice little city (it was ‘Moving Out Today’ not ‘Miss Otis Regrets’ that was the cause of the trip / bonus version of that included below / there’s also a cute Carole Bayer Sager version of it I like).
I visited Morocco on business in the mid eighties, mostly Rabat. Casablanca and, for fun, Fez. The flight from Damascus to Rabat wiped me out for a day because of the poor ventilation and heavy smoking. Since I was working on rainfed production of wheat and barley, Marrakesh was not on my radar, though I knew the song. I think it was a big pothead destination.
Mendocino was a recent rediscovery (a few months ago). It got very little airtime when I was growing up. I really like that kind of happy bopping music.
Miss Otis Regrets is a new one to me.

How apropos.
Certain bits of wisdom are timeless.
Yay Franklin Booth.

Fizzgig!
Was that his name? I don’t remember him.
Yup. 🙂
he’s having a tizzy-fit.
NOSE!
If you happen to start the above video at the right time, he does a great job of singing lead for ELO.
Watch out, Jeff Lynne!
Excellent. This guy has played more than a little soccer.
Listed as six years ago in Brazil.
The above finally kicked my brain into remembering to post this; another skilled individual.

It this a row of checkstands?
,
Is that pesky little Belgian detective still travelling on it?
Beautiful!
Kinda leaves out how it crossed the channel, though.
I thought it ran from Paris to Constantinople… How do you not change cars from London?
Now I have to find out whether the occupied coaches were ferried to France.

The caricature and this picture link seem to match (brace yourself).
Not the arms.
noooo! it’s TOO early for snow!
It’s always too early for snow.

I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about with the azimuth and error correction, but it is a little over two hours to Mendocino.
Beautiful, but I haven’t been there in years.
Nope nope nope.
I’ll watch the animated puppy flick on the other screen.
Me too.
