Actually, it would be a bit believable if it wasn’t for the plywood support under the bricks and the windows weren’t curved.

It’s actually an art installation in Margate, Kent, UK, by the artist Alex Chinneck. It’s a facade constructed of OSB particle board.

Be honest. If you saw this person walking toward you on a sidewalk, you would cross the street.

From the source that makes the most sense to me…      “BROADWAY PERFORMER, 1903”      …(it’s photograph #13).

Yikes.

But I’m sure it’s not meant to be as scary, or macabre, as it looks to us today.

He was probably just playing some sort of comical little boy, like you might see in an early comic strip, or a spoof of Little Lord Fauntleroy.

There was little subtlety to the skits and jokes acted out.

His exaggerrated makeup allowed his facial expressions to be seen from the cheap seats, at a time when stage lighting was harsh and crude.

You can see reminders of the mugging and heavy makeup in early silent film, before actors and directors realized they only had to project to the camera, not the 2nd balcony.

In China they’re known as ‘Nail Houses’.

Reminds me of a Korean shop-owner here in Munich – her face got melted in the Korean War thanks to the test-run of Napalm there.

That first guy doesn’t look the least bit odd to me… He wouldn’t get a second glance on the street in San Francisco.

The second one merely has vitaligo … Patches of skin that have lost their color. There’s nothing else wrong with his face.

You posted a girl with that condition the other day.

There are a couple of high fashion models who have it, walking runways as part of the chic “diversity” trend.

Michael Jackson used having it as a reason he started wearing makeup… I don’t know the truth of his claim.

I was trying to remember what that skin condition was called. Thank you.

The logo is a picture link to more of the works of Nicoletta Ceccoli.
Warning:
Some are as whimsical as this, others are decidedly not.

Tonight i got a good laugh at my Kiki, chasing Buddy off the bed. 😀
I wish i had a video of it.
Cleo should know better that to mess with a ticked off cat.

Today’s Songs:
1. ‘I Want You,’ 2. ‘ I Won’t Back Down,’ 3. ‘If I Had $1000000,’ and 4. ‘Immigrant Song,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe 5. ‘ Chorizo Chick Pea Salad’
1. The band’s name ‘Savage Garden’ comes from ‘The Vampire Lestat’ by Anne Rice (that’s how she described the vampires’ lair). They started out as an Australian bar band. I have the CD from which this was released on (it is the ‘chicka-cherry-cola’ song.
2. A quote from the Wikepedia Article:
‘Petty recalled the recording of this song to Mojo magazine:
At the session George Harrison sang and played the guitar. I had a terrible cold that day, and George went to the store and bought a ginger root, boiled it and had me stick my head in the pot to get the ginger steam to open up my sinuses, and then I ran in and did the take.
3. The ‘Kraft Dinner’ line started the throwing of K.D. boxes on stage in 1991 at the ‘Danforth Music Hall’ in Toronto. It became such a distraction as it grew up in other shows, the band set up boxes in the lobbies of their venues and asked their fans to place the K.D. in the boxes for the local food-banks (if you remember, I’m not actually a fan of K.D.)
4. Written in 1970 as a result of ‘Led Zeppelin’s’ concert in Reykjavik, Iceland. It was first sung at the ‘Bath Festival’ six days after.
5. The mix sounds good, but I’d keep all the spices and chorizo (it originated on the Iberian peninsula and spread worldwide with local variations) as mild as possible.

Thanks for your response to my song list yesterday. It’s always nice to learn a little history.

Cleo did solve the problem.

She can’t help it if people choose to ignore her warning signs and get hurt.

After all, she’s modeling appropriate behavior.

@P51Strega…

Sorry, I meant to answer you earlier

Thanks for reminding me about New Year’s Baby Susan….

I’ve been reborn every year on GoComics since about 2014, until the last year or two… But I haven’t done my metamorphosis on Cleo, that I can recall.

I get nervous about changing my avatar on this site, because I was one of the ones who had trouble posting it in the first place, till WordPress suddenly decided to cooperate.

Most people don’t have that problem, but for some reason Stel and I did… I think we were the first to try it on Cleo.

One day I’ll get brave and try again.

The main problem right now, though, is that this is the first January in a long time that I haven’t had a computer.

I’m doing everything on an android tablet or phone, and I don’t have an app that will replicate the ability I had, even with only MS Paint, to alter images… so for the moment, I believe Baby Susan is stuck in 2021 or 22.

Hopefully I’ll have a computer again soon, so that in time, Baby 2025 can make an appearance.

Thank you!
