I gave Sweetheart a plushy at the pet store before getting it home.
I had to vacuum pollyfill out of the carpet.
I’m happy that buddy likes the big knotted ropes.
I do wish that he would chase balls.

Cookie will chase balls. She will not give them back, preferring that I then chase her.

And what is the bright light from? Based on the shadows, it can’t be the lamps or windows.

Okay….

I saw this toy once at a show, displayed in a glass case, so long ago that the price would be irrelevant today… But I think even then it was in the hundreds of dollars.

I actually found several listings tonight…

Here’s a picture with the brand visible on the box, and the wind-up key more in evidence.

It’s Marx of course. One listing says it’s about 10″square and 6″ high while another says 12 x12 x 12″ though I’m sure they’re both the same.

The figures of Popeye and Bluto, which look like solid plastic, IIRC are actually hollow celluloid. Very lightweight, so they flip their arms about as the fighters turn.

Amazing that some examples survive!

Because they were all closed listings, ie sold, I only saw one that showed the selling price: $1,099!!

I didn’t recognize the kid, but looking at both pictures, I do think he looks like …

his future adult self…..

Arnold Schwartzenegger.

He started bodybuilding in his teens, and presumably bulking up, so this picture must be from before that.

I watched a documentary by him where he gave his whole history on body building and few other things that I can not repeat, it was decades ago!

We’re back in Got-ham City!! Still following the unfolding mystery of all those disappearing arches!

Looking down at in the Commissioner’s office (Great perspective, Nigthawks!) … where BatBasset and Sparrow are close to solving the crime!

But should our daring doggie duo be planning a celebration?

Holy half-round monument, BatBasset! Not yet!

“Solving” means more than correctly guessing the “Who” in this story…

We know some of the “Where and the “When” “… but it’s by no means over.

We know nothing of the “Why” or the “How” or the …

You’re right, Batfans…. forget all that!

What we need to know is how to end it!

The fight is still ahead!

….

Who can stop the menace of the Evil White Cat?

What nefarious power lurks within its malevolent brain?

What slashing havoc can be wreaked by its vicious claws?

Annnd….. are two brave basset hounds enough to fight it?

(Or one brave basset hound and one by now only slightly trembling almost-grown basset pup? You can do it, Sparrow!)

How will they prevail??!

So finally, in the heart of Got-ham City, the
game is afoot!

Oh, wait… wrong hero.

Okay, I know it’s not “It’s clobbering time!”

What’s our catchphrase for BatBasset and Sparrow?

Our caped, canine crusaders… clever catchers (we hope) of curve-coveting criminals?

Bagel & lox, and pizza; They’re trying to get us to carbo-load, probably fatten us up “for dinner.”

A properly made lox and bagel isn’t carbo-loading…

Just high in fat and very expensive.

You can’t really get great lox or bagels here…

So every once in a while I buy lox at Costco…

Farmed Norwegian smoked salmon, about $23 for 24oz instead of $60 a pound at the deli.

Then at least I can put on 3oz or so per bagel till I run out.
