Could be union rules, especially if line painters and brush clearers are in different unions.

Women.

Funny that in my email inbox, one headline from my local paper is “The tragic failure of America’s schools.”

The more things change…..

That’s the thing with Dudas…

When he wants animals to look similar so he can hide one kind with another, he just draws them to look alike. Whether or not they actually do.

I guess the non-foxes here are raccoons?

And

spoilerish hint:
he just left off the “eye mask” on three raccoons so they qualify as foxes.

But if you still want to see what I found….

even more spoilerish….

Red Pandas?

Kinda look like them too.

In fact I think those are red pandas tails, and their cuter faces.

But red pandas have white above their eyes and dark brown on their cheeks.

Sigh…. Now I have to find a picture.

Labs, in my experience, will eat anything you tell them is food, or pretend to eat, yourself.

It’s fun to see something/someone who is that happy all the time. Maybe a Lab is the perfect thing for “Happy Happy Happy”.

Re: Yesterday’s river crossing puzzle.
I don’t think nighthawks realized there was a third clue (or was it the rum again?).
Anyway, here’s the official solution video (it’s number 11).

I don’t want the solution till I know all the conditions, so I can attempt to solve it before I see the spoiler!

Here they are.
1) No child can be with another mother on a bank or on the raft without his or her mother.
2) A child can be left alone or with other children, but not with a different mother.
3) The raft can hold a maximum of two people. The mother and her son wearing red clothes are the only ones who can row.
How can they cross the river?

Having looked at it three times, I think there is a violation of the rules in the official solution, but I’m open to correction.

Just want to let everybody know….

I talked to Montana Lady!

I posted most of this yesterday afternoon,so you may have read it…. but since many of you don’t come back, please excuse me for repeating.

Unfortunately, the news is not great except for the fact that neither she nor her husband are in the hospital, or in immediate danger.

But she’s confined to bed or a chair, and unable to walk, or use her hands much, and can barely talk loudly enough to be heard.

Her husband is the one who called me, and I spoke to him as well, including whenever I couldn’t hear what she was saying.

He’s very nice. He’s taking care of her, mostly on his own, with infrequent caregiver visits. He does all the shopping and cooking.

From what I’ve gathered, though, his health is not the best either, so it goes without saying that I hope he remains ok too.

Their kids all live in San Diego, about as far south in California as you can get from Montana, but they’re taking turns visiting every couple of months.

I wish it could be more.

Sadly, she doesn’t expect to recover, or to be able to return to Cleo.

….

I had no contact info for her, other than her email address and knowing her real name, and her husband’s first name.

I emailed several times but heard nothing, which was very worrying.

As I did for Dennis, I googled her, hoping she wouldn’t mind…

I found her correct address but the phone numbers didn’t work…

So i mailed a card, about a week ago, with all my contact info, writing on the outside of the envelope that I hoped anybody there could please respond… And today they did!

I told her we all miss her here, and wish the best for her.

I’ll be contacting her again, and can try to relay short messages when I do.

….

No, that is definitely not good news.
ML’s husband’s health is way low too. She has mentioned his illness and treatment regimen several times over the course of last year, here and at GoComics.
I guess that last fall really took it out of her.
Please tell her I said “hello,” and that I’m wishing her and her husband the best.

Cleo’s attitude is how I feel about most “nutritious” snack food, be it kale chips or “protein bars.”

I don’t mean really nutritious snacks…

I mean the half disguised candy and cookies and salty snacks to which they add some vegetable component or soy powder or odd grains, to make it seem healthier, so they can give it a faddish name and quadruple the price.

The worse it tastes, the more some silly fools will pay for it.

….

If you want vitamins and protein for a snack, just eat an orange and a hardboiled egg.

Or an apple and some string cheese.

Spare me your $2.75 quinoa and cranberry energy bar.

For all the sugar in it, you may as well have a couple of Oreos with your cheese.

There’s an idea! Cheese Oreos (TM). Dibs – – – – – – or shotgun!

A funny (IMHO) one minute video from Elle Cordova…. Same YouTuber who did the great fonts one I posted a week or two ago.

Today’s eclipse:

🙁 The cloud cover here was as total as the eclipse. Still, it was nice sitting out with wine, cheese, giant eclipse themed frosted cookies and cupcakes. I’m still a bit buzzed which is good because I would be very disappointed otherwise. What was surprising, and cool was how suddenly it went dark, how quiet it was and how sudden the return of the light was. I expected a gradual darkening over the hour or so of the moon’s encroachment; but the reduction of light for most of it was barely noticeable; then the last minute leading into totality the light just died away. And when it came back, it was just as sudden. And ten minutes after that it began to drizzle (party over).

Moxie was a land shark when it came to food. If I wasn’t careful, she might take some finger with it. Cookie is much more picky. She has to sniff the treat and lick it. Then, she might take it and eat it (or spit it out).
