Hi Nighthawks, as usual I was late to the comics, but I caught your question yesterday. I replied with a lengthy comment on my two unexpected aviation “thrills”.
I had an opportunity to purchase an ultralight airplane years ago and almost did it except I have this sense of dizziness that grabs me in certain situations that made me doubt my ability to overcome something like that.
the way you described your second ‘adventure’ makes me glad I never went ahead with the process of learning to fly–I seriously doubt I’d keep cool when problems arise–I always tensed up in tense situations.

I’m thinking that they actually mean “Older than dirt”, and I don’t remember a lot of them because we didn’t have them here in the UK. I do remember 3,7,11,12,14,&16.
I must be older than you… or maybe it’s just regional.
But we always got newsreels when I was a kid.
As a pre-teen i saw movies on an overseas AF base, or occasionally in an English theater in downtown Tripoli.
Both showed newsreels.
The American ones were courtesy of the Air Force, so maybe stateside theaters had stopped showing them.
We loved getting to see the English ones, which usually showed the still-youngish Queen Elizabeth waving at some event, or being given roses… and often Prince Charles and Princess Anne, who fascinated us.
And Teaberry was my favorite gum as a child, along with Dentyne.. do they still make that?

‘Older then dirt’ means ageing and then dying….
I’m certain they meant “than dirt”.
I just assumed it was a typo, though I know i shouldn’t assume.
But that’s a common expression here, while I’ve never heard anyone say “older, then dirt”.
That phrase would properly have a comma in it, and wouldn’t make sense in this context, or even be understandable to most.
