Davis-Monthan Airforce Base, near Tucson. There are very few obsolete aircraft there, they are mostly worn-out or even surplus (older versions of current models that are still quite capable). They are stored for:
#1 Spare parts for active aircraft (look carefully and you can see planes missing parts)
#2 Sales to friendly nations
#3 Pending scrapping (recycling the metal)
In the middle right is a group of B-52s with chopped wings and fuselages. They were guillotined and left for soviet spy satellites to see. It was shortly after one of the nuclear arms reduction treaties was signed and is proof of compliance.
When I saw this last night, I thought I would go and take a look as I hadn’t done it for a while. There’s a lot more empty space than what I remember, and somewhere in the southwest corner was something that looked like a large version of the space ship from the old show “My Favorite Martian”.
Here is the Wikipedia article on the pilot pictured. His name is SABURŌ SAKAI. There is a black and white photograph of him in that same pose within the article.
The internet is amazing, isn’t it?
This is a great adventure, worth seeing again, if you’ve seen it, and pretty amazing if you haven’t.
BTW, the first three other passengers were Sherpa cartoonists, from Cleo’s Sherpa days, and Grace represents the alter ego of Teresa Burritt, whose Frog Applause is still on GoComics.
It was fun to have the interaction with them… But knowing about it isn’t at all essential to the plot.
This is a little more work to get to where I’m hoping you want to go.
It is a 2016 interview with the late Duane Eddy (Rebel Rouser (his composition), Peter Gunn (played lead guitar for the Henry Mancini television theme) and more…
1) Click on the August 17 show start button.
2) ) Go to the bottom of the page and clear the cookie notification if necessary.
3) Look for the little white dot at the bottom of the page and the timer to the left.(both are very small)
4) Click and hold on the dot and move it to the 35 minute mark (there will be a bit of the last item before the interview’s introduction / “Peter Gunn” theme plays before the interview starts).
I got a lot out of the interview, but if you play any instrument you’ll get a lot more than I did.
If you are into the blues the whole show is worth listening to. SATUDAY NIGHT BLUES LINK The show is on air 9:00 P.M. Saturdays in its respective time zones (you can pick it up .at 5:00 P.M. from the west coast.on the ‘net;
I do hope I’ve given directions that can be followed.
The part of the ballerina pig was done by noted dancer Graham Fletcher. Additional proof that if you want it to be done wrong (and funny), you have to know how to do it right.
I remember another ballet video that was on this site a few years ago with a guy in a tutu that was dropping feathers.
You must mean Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo!
One of my favorite dance troupes to watch… Not that I get to see many, especially now that I don’t have TV.
I did get to see “les Trocks”, as they’re called, live, one time in the early 80s, in San Francisco. They’re absolutely amazing.
…
Each dancer has a male and a female alter ego, and performs beautifully as either, the men doing the traditional leaps and lifts (even when his female partner is a 6 foot drag queen), and the “ballerinas” dancing en pointe, which male dancers traditionally don’t.
They started out in New York, back in the 70s, and are based there, but they’re internationally famous, and perform world tours.
A few years ago … or maybe a dozen….a young man who graduated from a local high school was chosen to join them… I’ve wanted to see him dance but I doubt I will, unless it’s on YouTube..
Hi all, I’m back again after the catastrophic failure of my computer on Friday evening. It looks like the motherboard decided to throw a rod, and that’s the end of that PC. It was fairly old, something like nine years or so, and so the venerable i7 Haswell Hex-core is no more…..
I’d been planning on building a new PC this year, so was starting to plan its replacement, but hadn’t got around to choosing, or buying, any new components yet. What I had done though was to buy a mini PC (It’s approx. 100mm, or 4″ square, and 40mm, or 1 and 9/16″ high) in preparation as I was going to build the new PC into the old case. I had also copied some of my files onto a USB stick, so I had enough data to get the new PC up and running and connected to my various accounts when the time came.
Slight fly in the ointment was I didn’t have the correct cables to connect the mini PC to my existing monitors, as I was going to be replacing the monitors as well. Fortunately I was able to order all the cables etc. via my phone, and they were delivered on Saturday afternoon. So I’ve spent the last couple of days setting up the new PC, and apart from a lot of ‘Adult Language’, getting to grips with Windows 11 and its data mining tendencies and working out how to disable most of its ‘Features’, I’m back up and running with a brand new (Temporary) Windows 11 mini PC.
The new, main PC, will be running some flavour of Linux (Probably Zorin OS or Mint), so I decided I also needed a Windows PC for certain tasks, so bought a mini PC in preparation, and I’m glad I did!
For those interested the mini PC is a Beelink 12th Generation Intel Alder Lake n95 Processor, with 16Gb of RAM, and a 500Gb M.2 HDD. I bought it off of Amazon a couple of months ago.
Yes, welcome back… And congratulations on your project.
Mini PCs fascinate me, but my level of Geekhood has completely slid back down from its (not so high) peak in the early 2000s, when I built, well, assembled, a PC with (sort of legit )Windows 2000 server software. I think RAM was still in Mbs.
I was also learning to use a friend’s computer running an earlier version of Red Hat Linux.
Pretty much all behind me now.
In fact I have no computer, for now, and use Android tablets (and a smartphone) till I get one, which I’m sure will be off the shelf, and low end.
thanks! It’s only 3 frames in a loop. with help from dear ol’ Stel , it was easy.
sometimes you can put hours into a project and it turns out blah
it’s nice to get it right with very little effort!
.
Well, the box IS labeled blonde ale, and he’s blonde… so…..
But he’s too young to drink!
He’s a shoo-in for best costume at the Halloween party.
Way to camouflage the cone of shame.
Nah… This wouldn’t keep him from chewing his paws.
And I just know he’s a good boy.
Aledale puppy.
…
In case some of you young’uns don’t know….
And if that doesn’t do it…
One of the four musicians in arguably the most famous rock group ever.
I got him right!
Same. 🙂
Funny, but in that picture, even now that you told me, I don’t see Harrison. Maybe it’s the expression on his face.
…
I got that one right too! Lockheed Lightning!
Invasion stripes.
a native species to Australia
Pucker up, boyos….
Have I got a thrill for you!
Which means it’s deadly poisonous, right?
I’m voting AI.
Nope, it’s REAL.
Cool! Thanks. 😀
I searched it, and articles about it appeared in Australian newspapers in 2019, when it washed up on a beach there.
It’s a sea urchin, but one that scientists were not familiar with.
Actually it’s an Anemone (related to jellyfish). Urchins are related to starfish.
Yeah… I thought urchins were less gooey looking.
But the article said urchin. I wonder why!

where obsolete aircraft are laid to rest
Can’t they recycle all that steel?
Mostly aluminium, steel is a bit heavy for an airframe and skin.

Saw a video all about the organization that runs it.
thanks for the clarification.

Here.
Um…. Take a look how?
Google Earth.
I see it from 2013 to early 2023. Then the latest image (late 2023) doesn’t have it.
,,
Yeah… It’s about a mile north… turn right into the shopping center, at the light by the Taco Bell.
Oh… the one in this puzzle reminded me
Okay okay….
If you’re looking for that one it’s..
Yup
“Stuff that will make you laugh” it’s labeled. So those are happy pills?
😀
My thoughts too.
Got it!
Now that i’ve seen it, i can’t unsee it.
Me too…. and I’ve been craving Panda Express ever since.
You didn’t see mine?
No, I didn’t.
But what I posted in the spoiler box is the answer at the site, which as I said agrees with what I (and now I know you also) found.
Yes.
..,.
Yikes.
A six foot drop is quite an introduction to the world..
“Mooooooom! Just five more minutes!”
just a few of the fighter aircraft that slugged it out in WW1
Curse you Red Baron!
I always loved this song. I remember sitting on the swings at recess singing this at the top of my lungs while swinging back & forth.
I’ve always preferred the updated Christmas version…
Snoopy’s Christmas vs. The Red Baron – The Royal Guardsmen
Also a favorite.

One day he’ll be big enough to carry that head around.
Yay!
Ace Private Nose, Sam Basset is back!

All aboard!
So Candace wasn’t our Candace?
Um.. our Candace is Candice.
And I just realized I misspoke …. they’re Sherpa characters, not cartoonists.
Candace was the star of Candace and Company!
If I recall correctly, there is another mystery here.
How many cars are there on that train?
As I replied to JP Steve, above…. I meant to say they’re Sherpa characters, not cartoonists.
I was going to just edit my comment to correct it, but it’s already gotten a reply, and I didn’t want to cause it to not make sense.
Just don’t ask me about the other characters and strips cos I don’t remember.
Is one Bluebonnets?
Buck Sorrel.
I miss that strip.

Until today, I had no idea this existed.

There is a Troop in NYC that are all men doing female roles. And doing them well.

for sure. welcome back!
Gosh… I forgot to mention how much I love the steam from the train.
It’s not a Friday animation, and the rest of the image is still… but that steam makes it come alive.
