that’s pretty much what I expected out of those nasty-looking whole- chicken-stuffed-in-can things when I saw those on the shelf–usually the bottom shelves
Some of these are still around, some have, mercifully, passed on.
A few of the labels have barely changed.
I eat a fair amount of canned tuna… That can of Starkist is drawn with as much tuna in it as probably 2 cans then and 3 cans today.
I recently ate a can of chef Boy-Ard-Dee supposed spaghetti and meatballs. It was a dollar and I wanted to see what it was like.
Tomato soup. Thick with squishy cooked spaghetti and rubbery little round things.
Finally some pasta that makes Olive garden seem great.
…
I’m not a fan of canned crab meat even though nowadays it’s sold refrigerated, and a can that size might be $30…
But you can’t make me try the beef and pork lunch meat!
And what the heck is a camp pie?
Later Edit: fixed a typo. The can of crab would cost $30, not $3.
I cannot find the song that goes with this gif, but here is another light jazz song by “Canned Beets” (the video is “trippy” / the group is out of Austin). CANNED BEETS; “KEYLESS ENTRY”.
I think I managed to choke down three of these during my bachelor years. There was something “interesting” about the flavor. I had to buy it again to try to pin it down. But it took still one more before I could definitely say “nope, this is bad”.
You got a bag of dough mix, a litle can of sauce, and a packet of grated cheese. Just add water.
I think the dough contained yeast, but there must have been baking powder as well. It was too soft and tasted too much like a biscuit to be purely yeast risen…. And rose too quickly.
The sauce had that yummy bland tomato soup flavor.
No mozzarella, herbs, or garlic.
Mom sometimes added bits of salami.
Nope Nope Nope. I’m going to just say the ropes are a mess and you would never allow that at sea. I’ll leave all the impossible things the ropes are doing for others to discover. And there is sooo much more. This could be a Saturday puzzle.
Nobody EVER took a trip on a ship like that. That is a square rig sail tied to catch wind 90° from their heading. The rigging from the rail to ??the roof?? is useless. There is no structure like that on fully rigged ship; it’s in the way. This one is totally overboard (sorry Nighthawks)
thanks for hanging in there!
Wordpress, of course crashed the site….it wasn’t fixed until 7:30 PM( EST)tonight.
it’s still not 100% the way it was—-but it seems to be functioning correctly
I couldn’t get into C&C this afternoon. I finally get in, and I’m a whole day behind. Right now I’m seeing something weird; each post has two “like” buttons. The one we’re used to is there, but above there is also a black box with a grey thumbs-up that turns red when clicked. Is anyone else seeing this?
It looks like WordPress has done an update. The font on the main page is different, plus the upvote box (Black box with a Thumbs Up). The ‘Thumbs Up’ count box (The one to the right of the black TU button) is also different.
I wonder what features they’ve managed to break whilst doing the update……
I eliminated that extra thumbs up thing.
in order to return to how this site looked the day before yesterday, I only have to change back the main page font that you mentioned….
not sure that’s even necessary
when in doubt, always blame WordPress—that’s my go-to suspect.
it works for everything….
my car’s battery died the other day.
goddamed WordPress!
I had to go to the ER last Saturday morning.
thanks a lot, WordPress!
Global climate change is evident.
all fingers point to the malevolent, all powerful, profoundly evil entity that is WordPress!
.
Nope. Not cute enough.
Aw! Now you’ve hurt his feelings!
..
One whole boneless chicken.
I’ve tried one — they don’t live up to the hype…
Could be worse – could be pheasant.
Fowl in one episode of M.A.S.H.
Or 4F: Foul, foul, foul, foul! (Another episode)
To say the least!
Not boneless… I can’t really make out the wording but I think it says without giblets.
My mother bought one way back then…
Not Banquet cos it was a brand I’d never heard of… But probably the same.
…
Horrible. Disjointed bones, shreds of meat and skin clinging to them in some places, but mostly all just broken up in the can.
Lots of liquid; a layer of fat.
With the metallic flavor of the little cubes of chicken in chicken noodle soup.
It looked like it had been an under 2 pound chicken, now reduced by shrinkage to a small bowl of shreds.
We’d been wondering how to carve it, until we opened it.
that’s pretty much what I expected out of those nasty-looking whole- chicken-stuffed-in-can things when I saw those on the shelf–usually the bottom shelves
Where’s they’d been since the depression.
LOL
I remember jelly. Lots and lots of jelly…
Eww yes… I’d forgotten.

A history and recipes HERE.
camp pie—yummy looking , right?
Mmm – mmm good!
Something I can’t read and beef.
Lots of modified food starch and healthy chemicals.
I don’t wanna go to that camp!
LOL
…
Hang’n eggs?
Sorry, radishes disagree with me!
Beets me.

Not my taste in music, but the visuals in the video were OUTSTANDING!
I kinda like the music, it grows on ya after a while.
I am reminded of The Jerk, Steve Martin’s first movie, which featured the delectable midway treat “pizza in a cup.”
I think I managed to choke down three of these during my bachelor years. There was something “interesting” about the flavor. I had to buy it again to try to pin it down. But it took still one more before I could definitely say “nope, this is bad”.
The boneless chicken was better!
I beg to disagree.
This one is almost but not quite edible.
My mom used to buy this in the 60s.

Hey we ate it and I’m still here. Pretty much.
pretty much?
Well, I’m sure some people would say I’m not all here
,
3 headed chicken!
Turducken on the hoof.

Yup, yup, yup. This was done by someone (or something) that knows what a ship is…
?
I think it’s a painting too. But no ship would ever let that many unsecured ropes just lying around.
I look at this and think of those folks who took long voyages for months on ships like these throughout history .
and without GPS
Nobody EVER took a trip on a ship like that. That is a square rig sail tied to catch wind 90° from their heading. The rigging from the rail to ??the roof?? is useless. There is no structure like that on fully rigged ship; it’s in the way. This one is totally overboard (sorry Nighthawks)

Got it!
Me too.
Me too!
Well, it IS just standing there, not trying to hide.
But if I were a goat, surrounded by some sort of hungry flying insects at least half again my height and weight, I think I’d be making tracks.
Like… Yesterday, if not before.
..,.
Dude! Way to chill!
What is that over her right eye?
The glasses do look strange.
Someone has superimposed (Sideways) a guy in a cloak and skull mask holding a flag.
It’s creepy.
rather odd
Yer back! I couldn’t get on all day!
thanks for hanging in there!
Wordpress, of course crashed the site….it wasn’t fixed until 7:30 PM( EST)tonight.

I not only got kicked out and couldn’t get back on, i was getting some kind of giant thumbs up symbol on each comment box.
Anybody else?
They had numbers and were clickable, to change the number…. even though I couldn’t see most of the images on the page or play the videos.
But they were unrelated to the number of actual likes.
Nice to know it wasn’t just me. I thought Nighthawks didn’t like me anymore. 😉
Yeah. Me too. Yesterday as well.
I couldn’t get into C&C this afternoon. I finally get in, and I’m a whole day behind. Right now I’m seeing something weird; each post has two “like” buttons. Oh, yeah.
Yup!
Yup.
Plus the numbers there are strange.

Thanks, it looks like we’re back to normal.
we are at the age when normal is the most comfortable
No wonder I’m so uncomfortable.
Oops I just posted about that in a reply to Nighthawks.
Should have read your comment first.
As I said there, clicking sometimes changed the number but it was unrelated to the actual number of likes, if that’s still correct.
It also appeared retroactively on previous pages…. But seems to be gone now.
Whooo… whooo…. whooooo dunnit?
All abooaard again…. for the mystery train…
The Midnight Express is still carrying us along, through the cornfields and the valleys… past the foothills and the stockyards…
shining its beam into the cities, and onto the countryside…
While darkness falls inside the train, as though trying to hide a MURDER… as ace detective Sam Basset attempts to draw it into the light.
…
The newly but apparently not dearly departed does not seems to be missed….
Not one fellow passenger has shed a tear upon learning of his perhaps NOT-so-unfortunate demise.
Not even sweet-faced Candace… certainly not Buck… and now, not Mr. Horne….
whose first name, we learned in one of those handy-dandy cartoon expository panels, is Myles.
….
But that early panel showed us four passengers, not counting Sam, or the unmourned victim.
Only one is yet to be interviewed… the rather lame-faced Grace.
Tonight’s helpful voice says there are SIX suspects, including the porter.
Who else is on this train?
Surely the voice isn’t counting SAM??
COME ON… we know it’s not Sam… this isn’t our first murder mystery!
Sheesh.
….
Is it YOU? Did YOU do it?
CONFESS!
Whoooo whoooooo dunnit?

Are you alright?
My loose (and already dead) tooth fell out just a few minutes ago…
Oh! 🙁
It’s OK; otherwise I’d have payed my dentist a visit next week. That tooth was due since December.
yes! all better
I certainly hope so!
You used to be able to find marshmallows coated in toasted coconut.
I saw some recently… But it’s true you rarely do. These were from Mexico.
I wonder whether it’s because people choke on them.
I know I do.
I liked them as a kid, but as an adult, i accidentally inhaled the loose coconut too many times to try again.
FWIW, I will be away this weekend. Back late Monday/Tuesday. Have fun. Play nice.
Hope it’s for something fun.
You know, neither medical nor that 3 day jail sentence the county is waiting for you to serve😁
Happy trails!
Dang! How did you find out? 🤐😜
see ya!
