I know it’s AI (There’s a ghost rail in the foreground, a spare rail in the back, and a ghost woman by the loco), but I do like the atmospheric ‘feel’ about the image. I do like Steampunk (And Dieselpunk), you get the romantic feel of the 1920’s (I’m not going to say the 1920’s reality was any better than now, just the rose-tinted vision through the ages), but with modern tweaks and Out-Of-Era context.
Sometime in between Ron Howard’s famous role, in the early 1960s, as the little kid, Opie, on the Andy Griffith show, and his late teen/young adult starring turn on the early 1970s Happy Days….
he was one of the teen stars of this pretty much forgotten late 60s family drama/ cop show, called the Smiths.
And yeah…
the Dad is …
Henry Fonda.
Really. Henry Fonda.
I don’t recognize the mother or the other two kids.
(Yogi Berra explained that this phrase of his originated when he witnessed Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris repeatedly hitting back-to-back home runs in the Yankees’ seasons in the early 1960s.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yogi_Berra#%22Yogi-isms%22
Wow… I just got my Internet back, on my Wi-Fi, for the first time since early last night, except for an inexplicable 40 or 50 minutes this afternoon, after which it dropped again.
I’ve been using my phone to post… except when it went out too..
All this time I’ve had most of my solution to the tedious hunting for teeth puzzle, trapped on my tablet, cos I hadn’t uploaded it to postimage or my email, where I could access it from my phone.
Even now, this connection is slow and a bit shaky.
….
So… I know nobody cares any more, and I don’t think anybody cared then… But dadgummit, it took me forever, and occupied some of my time when I couldn’t get online….
So I’m gonna share it now, for anybody who even started looking for 20 teeth, or didn’t, but wants to see the puzzle equivalent of twiddling my thumbs.
…..
I did like some of the things in that picture, though… like how hard it must be to keep a pediatric beaver dental office open, with all the kids eating the furniture.
15 teeth or maybe 20….
The colors didn’t show up well so i circled my circles again with white.
I’m pretty sure of the 15 in green and white circles…
I circled 5 more in purple and white where the picture resolution wasn’t sharp enough for me to be sure of them…. But now I think 2 of those are correct as well.
I’ve been planning to check again, but it’s crazy..
It’s very hard to find anyone who either actually knows, or has authority to grant it.
….
I have an incredibly cheap unlimited plan, grandfathered when my present provider gobbled up the company that gave it to me.
A huge price difference …. $25 a month instead of 70 plus for a single subscriber. Discount plans are usually for 4 lines.
They (somewhat reluctantly) agreed to let me keep it… but nobody seems to know what “extras” I’m eligible for.
Full price subscribers get some tethering… not enough to support my full Internet usage, but at least enough for emergencies. Full time is very expensive.
….
They say I can do it, but the billing computers will charge me a fortune if the person who told me it was included was wrong.
Same with the free calling to Mexico and Canada.
They tell me the only way to find out if I have it is by doing it and seeing whether and how much I get billed!
….
And of course, my phone goes out, too, though lately it’s been more constant and faster than my DSL. I used to have to walk out into the street a few times a day to recover the signal.
I found a few; enough to realize that they weren’t really cleverly hidden, they are just dull; and then I quit. But I admire your gumption, your grit, your… um… yeah, lets leave it at that.
I am impressed by Nighthawks mastery of the character of Sam Basset. Here we see Sam’s quick-thinking response to the threat of dung-flinging, honed through his years of experience plumbing the depths of this dog-eat-dog world we all inhabit.

Please may I drive? Please. please, please…>
…
Nope! I’m not going there…
I don’t think you (or anyone) can go there.
It lives in dreams.
Or some computer program.
Whichever.
Just not… you know…. on Earth… not now and not in the past.

I recognized those two.

Still no!
Oh, come on!
I don’t think there’s anything more I can say.
“It’s (still) “like déjà vu all over again…”

Whoever does these has sort of a fetish for grafting poor children into scenes involving the detritus of an industrial society.
,,
Loved the way he recreated the role for “Hot Shots Part Deux.”
We were big fans.
I always got the one with the limpet mine! I wanted the knife!
Well, you can still nget one on eBay for only about 15 to 30 US dollars plus an exorbitant shipping fee… baking soda not included.
How many box tops is that?
Approx 351,762. Or so.
oh yeah! the knife-guy was so much more cooler than limpet mine-guy
Right! Mike Nelson always had a knife with him. You hardly ever saw him swimming around with a dinner plate!
I got the submarine!
,
Quite skillful use of a palette knife…
But maybe it’s not really the best tool for a glossy shine.
I keep wanting to polish out that horrible scratch below the rear window.
Must be the schoolmarm…
LOL
Will he have to change his name to ‘Dr. Killmore’?
I think that was the character name of Kenneth Williams in one of the ‘Carry On Doctor’ films.
My parents called him “Dr. Killpain.”
can you find a panda bear?
Got it right away!
Yeah! He’s in among all the pills from last week.
Yes.
I held out some bamboo, but it still didn’t jump out at me. I did eventually track it down.
You probably forgot to make a noise like bamboo.
I thought it was
Where we going, daddy?
Dung flingers unite!
You flung dung?
I believe it’s “Who Flung Dung,” owner of the finest Chinese restaurant in Moosejaw.
And we’re off again…. clickety-clacking our way through another bit of the mystery… examining another suspect…
And yikes… those eyes.
I mean… umm… yeah those are… some eyes.
Where does she come from?
What has she seen?
More importantly…. at least for this plot…. what has she done?
….
Of course, we don’t want to be profiling, here.
Just because somebody has a snarly disposition, an other-worldly pallor, and a glare that could probably stop the train on its own….
coupled with the hollow-eyed look of the damned….
we shouldn’t automatically be suspicious…
Um… should we?
(gulp.)
…
Golly.
I wonder whether the dining car is still open…
Yup… I think I’ll just…
Oh… right…. locked. This car is locked… and I can’t…um….
All rrright…. b…b.. back to my own compartment, then…
Uh… right-o. Nothing to worry about. Uh huh.

Thanks for looking… If anybody did😁
And of course that connection only lasted about 15 minutes, and I’m back on the phone.
Tethering isn’t an option for you?
Good idea, but no… Not last time I checked.
I’ve been planning to check again, but it’s crazy..

Nothing is reliable in my neighborhood.
Why the thumbs down then?
OMG… Sorry!
That was accidental… I was trying to thumb it UP!
My fingers are awkward sometimes on the phone. I don’t remember ever thumbing anything down on this site.
….
I just tried to change it.
It used to let you remove the thumbs down but not replace it with a thumbs up… but it sure looks like it worked this time.
If you can’t see a thumbs up like I do, please know that there should be one!
👍
It worked – and I do know it wasn’t intentional.
It’s WordPress’s fault anyway.

Yeah, maybe just leave it at that.
