Does that say 1860 on the bottom?

Yes, but it can’t be a date… for one thing, the clothes aren’t from the 1860s… Think Civil War era…
though at that time you’d also see eastern European peasant type clothing.
Not that snazzy straw boater (hat).

Speaking of which, you also wouldn’t see a big, thriving Jewish neighborhood in the 1860s… Not for another 30 or 40 years.

….

Here’s a caption I found on the website of the Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy:

“Workers dig the street along the sidewalk on the north side of Delancey Street, New York, July 1908”.

I, too, see 1460.
My guess that it’s a print tracking number for referencing, I’ve seen similar in the past elsewhere.

First untethered spacewalk.

Astronaut Bruce McCandless II approaches his maximum distance from the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Challenger in this 70mm photo from Feb. 7, 1984. While testing out the nitrogen-propelled, hand-controlled back-pack device called the manned manoeuvring unit (MMU) for the first time, McCandless’s fellow crewmembers aboard the reusable vehicle photographed him. The MMU allowed crews to move outside of the cargo bay and perform activities away from the safety of the spacecraft. “It may have been one small step for Neil,” he proclaimed, “but it’s a heck of a big leap for me.”

All I have to say about this photo, is…

Astronaut Bruce McCandless II has a LOT OF FAITH in science!

As Happy³ is wont to say:
“Nope Nope Nope”

Yay!

We all know Lassie belonged to Jeff, not that upstart Timmy!

I like your comments, but respectfully disagree. I can’t tell you how many times I had to ask our dogs “what is it, is Timmy down the well again?”

I don’t know if I started watching later or just never paid that much attention to names, but I don’t remember Jeff.

You’r all too young! Roddy McDowell (And Elizabeth Taylor) was the original. 1943 “Lassie Come Home”

I remember it being shown in the school gym ca. 1960. Everyone cried at the end…

You’re probably just enough younger than us to have missed Jeff, and started with Timmy.

At least Jeff didn’t go falling into wells.

If Jeff was ’54-’57, then, being the young lad I am, I wasn’t born yet.

In case anybody wonders…

…they are Peter O’Toole to our left and Anthony Quinn to our right in “Lawrence of Arabia”.

My minister’s wife, when I was a teen and she was not quite 30), told a story of her college roommate who accepted two dates on one day – afternoon and evening. Both took her to see Lawrence of Arabia! All 222 minutes, plus overture, intermission, and exit music.

Looks like a souvenir metal plaque from Disneyland or the Franklin Mint.

The newspaper purports to be a one year anniversary issue from 1866, but the fonts look modern.

The faded text and tattered edges are very fake, and the round dots near the corners look like placements for nails or screws.

How do we know what a pea looks like when it’s laughing?

Does it have blue tears like the laughing emoji 🤣?

I thought peas were supposed to look alike… like peas in a pod.

Oooh…. the Midnight Express seems to have hit a slight bump in the rails.

Well…. maybe not the train… but ace gumshoe Sam Basset seems to have been thrown a bit off the track….

I mean, by this Grace person.

….

Sure, she’s one crazy dame, I can see that…..

But listen up, Basset: Ya can’t let her get to ya.

Cos if I were a murderess…

Pardon me? No… this is purely hypothetical…

aww, c’mon… you guys know I couldn’t be a suspect…

As I was sayin’…

If I’D just been very very bad girl… and I wanted to knock some nosy sleuth off the scent…

I might just buy myself a ticket on the crazy train.

I’d hop ANY “loco”-motive some long-eared shamus would be scared to board.

She ain’t as dumb as she’s tryin’ t’ look.

Yesterday i forgot to ask permission before putting the GoFundMe up.
Tell me no if i have overstepped.

Hey there! I’m working on securing a cozy home for Buddy and me, but I’ve hit some unexpected fees for inspections and title costs. Your support, no matter how small, would mean the world to us and go directly toward creating a safe space for Buddy and any future playmates—if you can, please consider donating or sharing the link! https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f60a.svg

If you go there you wont see Buddy. I didn’t have a good photo of him handy so i used Kiki.

And this is the place i’m buying.

This is a reversal from your past request for family friendly content.

Does it mean you’ve given up all hope of distribution or syndication? 🥺

Sad cos this is such a great strip and you’re such a talented cartoonist.

(Um… er… wait… I didn’t mean to pay you such a big compliment. gulp…
Can i go back to being snarky now?)
