Uh, duuuude! I went to college in Wisconsin. Walking half a mile or more into the wind first thing in the morning when the wind-chill is -64°F (yes, for real). Every winter count on at least 10 days of wind-chill below -30° and real temperatures below -15°. When I moved to tropical Michigan we could only count a few winter days below 0, but I still remember those college days.
I lived in Madison, Wisconsin all four years of high school.
Walking half a mile to the school bus stop, cos it didn’t go to our street…
Well below zero, but of course we couldn’t wear anything sensible, being teenagers.
…
Dorky as I was, I knew the rules.
Gloves were ok, but not mittens… Skinny knit scarves in school colors… But never tights (at that time they were for little girls), earmuffs, warm hats… or boots.
Girls weren’t allowed to wear pants to school.
I wore skirts to mid knee, usually crew socks and loafers with bare legs in between… Sometimes knee socks, with my bare knees turning bright red at 10 below.
Boots and mittens and earmuffs were for kindergartners, not for us sophisticated senior high types, even if i did hang out in the chem lab.
….
Then for one year after high school I went to the University of South Dakota, where it seemed even colder.
Women could wear slacks to class if it was below zero. Wool slacks. No jeans, no “wash pants”… ie cotton chinos
They’d blow a steam whistle from the office at 6am to let us know zero or less was predicted.
Um…. you know, all that snow is on the mountain…. It’s not all that close.
There’s none on the street or buildings in the city, no sign of car tracks on the street… and the only person I can make out is wearing a hoodie… though it could be a light jacket.
So I got curious and googled it.
The mountain is Fujiyama, the city is Fujiyoshida… it’s near the base of the mountain, though still at a pretty good altitude, just over 2,000 feet. There’s a temple there that has been a traditional starting place for Fujiyama pilgrims.
According to Wikipedia… it has a climate characterized by hot and humid summers, and relatively mild winters.
But it goes on to say that the highest temperatures are in August, at around 21 °C (70 °F), which doesn’t sound very hot to me, unless the humidity is something awful, and lowest in January, at around −2.3 °C (27.9 °F)… not much colder than where I live, in Northern CA.
Here’s a photo of Mount Baker Wash, taken out my kitchen window. However it’s really just a dot on the horizon until telephotos and digital zoom enhanced it a smidgin…
Actually, that’s what I did. Took lessons to learn how to drive correctly, after I’d learnt how to operate a car first. The majority of our vehicles over here have manual gearboxes, so if you can learn how to drive one of them first before you take lessons, you can then concentrate on learning everything else that the instructor thinks you need to know.
Had a total phobia, ever since our high school football coach/driving instructor, and then my hot-tempered father, both yelled at me while supposedly teaching me to drive at 16.
Never wanted to drive after that, went everywhere by bike and bus…. till I changed my mind years later, and started from zero with a paid instructor.
She was a hero. I was nervous but she calmed me.
A few weeks of lessons and I scored 100% on my written and 97% behind the wheel driving tests.
A few years after that, I was commuting 35 miles each way to work. I’ve never looked back. Never had a ticket.
One is that there’s some white fluffy stuff tucked in amongst the wolves… I was wondering whether Dudolf was mixing metaphors a bit, suggesting they’re dressed in sheep’s clothing.
The other is
a bit of a spoiler….
The Grandma face, if I’m correct, is white, and the bottom half could maybe be taken for a beard.
I think I found it, and it doesn’t look like much of anything identifiable.
The others, BTW, are wolves.
Big bad wolves, though a bit on the cute side, dressed in Grandma’s cap and glasses… and that’s Red Riding Hood searching.
Spoiler:
If what you found is
…roundish and white, with slightly bigger glasses, and possibly a little round nose, and what could be a bit of grey hair on the side….
I’ve mentioned before that Dudolf draws animals any way he wants. Often to ressemble other animals if it suits his purpose.
But there’s no purpose for owls here. I think it’s accidental…
The curved nose piece, or bridge, on the Grandma glasses the wolves are all wearing makes some of their noses, if they’re not in profile, look like beaks.
.
“These are not the droids you’re looking for.”
perfect
You ain’t nuthin’ but a Jawa…
Howling all the time!
,
Looks cold.
Cool
No! Cold! Brrr!!!
And i live (almost) on the 45th parallel on the pacific coast.
I know cold!
😀
Um… just, you know… a thought…
The Oregon Coast isn’t L.A., it’s true.
It gets a little colder than here, I think, and we both feel pretty cold in winter…. but AFAIK it doesn’t snow and rarely freezes. Is that not true?
I consider all of us West Coast dwellers very lucky (even spoiled!) You have to go up a mountain to find snow as far north as Washington State.
I’m thinking “I know cold” might be amusing to our Cleo pals who spend their winters digging out of huge piles of icky freezing white stuff. 😁

Otherwise skirts.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
And here’\s the real thing…
That was apparently some smidge!

Welcome aboard. There’s plenty for everyone.
♫♪ Hippo bird day to you…♫♪
Rush hour is always crazy busy!
I see a contest shaping up here:
,.
Is that the same little swamp dweller (the kid with the shell) in both photos? That seems like a heckuva lot of growth in 17 years.
I’d expect him to be a bit harder to pick up too!
It’s terrible now dude, but you are going to love the rubdown after.
Every dog does.
Don’t you know it!!! At least nirvana, but maybe even better. Ooooh, could you scratch a little lower, please?
And then, they get the zoomies.
Well, sort of a mad dash to find something disgusting to roll around on.
.
Another of those Catch 22 situations.

Mom learned how to shift on a beach somewhere in Southern California.
I’m the opposite.

PS… I still don’t know how to drive a stick.
Later the same day:
Uber?
Hysterical 😀
I swear, officer, a tornado picked up my car with me in it and threw it right in here!
“I’m here for the crash course!”
,.,
You can look, but don’t dare touch!
find Gramma
I found a dog(?) without ears, but it doesn’t look much like a Gramma…
I found something. Does your gramma have a beard?
There are two things that might look like beards…
One is that there’s some white fluffy stuff tucked in amongst the wolves… I was wondering whether Dudolf was mixing metaphors a bit, suggesting they’re dressed in sheep’s clothing.
The other is
The Grandma face, if I’m correct, is white, and the bottom half could maybe be taken for a beard.
That’s what i see. 🙂

Spoiler:
I think that’s the Grandma.
agreed–unofficially–I don’t , as usual, have the answers
What about all those owls?
I was thinking the same thing.
I’m sure they’re supposed to be wolves.
It’s me. If something has a passing resemblance to a bird, i’m going to see that bird.
We’ll, this time I see owls too.
Had to figure out why they’d be there… And realized they’re not.
If she’s a ‘Furry’ then this is gonna be really difficult!
GAAAH, I got here too late again… SHE’S ALREADY BEEN EATEN!
,,,
I suggest you turn your sound off.
You don’t need what I consider to be poorly chosen music to distract you from an impressive performance.
I wish there were more details of the machines involved, but those are plums.
They use something similar to that for harvesting the hazelnuts around here.
I could use some fish tacos at the local place right now.
Meant to say… Rubio’s, our only reasonably priced fish taco place that I know of, closed forever during the pandemic.
So I make fish tacos with frozen fish sticks. Usually homemade guacamole and pico de gallo… But you can use store bought.
I imitate their white sauce drizzle with a little mayo and lime juice, and a bit of sour cream if i have it
They’re surprisingly good.
Found this online if you’re interested. Just adds a few more spices to what you already have.

Cleo is not inclined to taco ’bout it.
Lettuce assume we’ll never know.
But I’m pretty sure it’s, shall we say, a “hot” taco bar.
BTW… Pretty full menu for a pushcart.
I thought everything would be, you know, a la cart.
