I never thought about any resemblance but now I can kind of see one.

I’m thinking

TITLE
Knute Rockne, All-American
starring
SPOILER
Ronald Reagan
and a guy whose name I used to and should remember, but do not.

Yes….

And….

Pat O’Brien starred as Knute Rockne.
That doesn’t look like him in the photo but it must be.

Reagan played George Gipp, aka the Gipper.

BTW….

Nowadays football players are huge. Saying somebody looks like a football player is shorthand for big, tall and muscular.

Not in Rockne’s day. He was 5′ 8″ and145 pounds… And a football hero.

That’s skinny! Some running backs are shorter than that 5’8″ range, but much heavier. Smallest current player:
Deuce Vaughn: 5’5″ but 176#

I’m shorter than Deuce and weigh less than Rockne (when he was still playing, wise-guys*)

*I could hear you formulating wise-cracks about weighing less than a corpse.

I don’t think either of them look like themselves in the photo!

I agree… I think I recognized the movie first, or what movie it probably was…. and knew who was in it, if I was right.

I kind of made myself see them.

But I searched the image just to make sure, because it’s NOT a good photo.

Wonder if the owner’s name was Jack.

I think I kinda blew it…. I see now that Jax might be the beer they sold.

I just thought Jax would be a clever name for a place owned by someone named Jack.

?

I was replying to Nighthawks’ “?”.

I kinda thought a lot of people wouldn’t get it, or would roll their eyes (a response I’m quite accustomed to 😁)…

But even more so after I was wrong about the name of the place. Sigh….

Even with the full Hollywood treatment…. I just could never see Barbara Stanwyck as a glamour girl.

Or Bette Davis or Katharine Hepburn…

I never see the latter presented as such.

She would win the man away from the beautiful airhead with her humor or intelligence, even while also being a dingbat… I loved her movies.

But I never thought she was supposed to be more beautiful. Classy, yes. Glamorous, not really.

I’m not sure about Bette Davis… I’m not as familiar with her roles.

But sometimes Barbara Stanwyck would play the man-stealing femme fatale, and I couldn’t buy it.

OMG I think I found it.

Or I think I found what they mean to be it… but it’s a terrible representation.

I looked and looked and found this thing, but it’s tiny and badly drawn… You can hardly see it.

It’s just the only thing I saw that

MIGHT be an A….

I cropped that little section in the hopes that it’ll post big enough to make it out.

It seems impossible that Mattisse was still working in 1949…

I think of him as an early 20th century artist… Which he was.

But he’s 80 here, and worked into the 1950s, though towards the end he couldn’t paint, but made paper collages.

I was going to post an LOL because the brand name on his neckerchief is Wolf Republic.

I thought somebody put it on him and took the photo as a joke.

Nope.

Just on a whim, I googled Wolf Republic, and discovered that it’s a company selling … hip dog supplies? It’s like LL Bean for dogs.

They sell these bandanas. They’re only… are you ready? $24 each.

They come in three different materials…. or you can buy the whole set of three. You have to really like your dog, because it’s $72. Not one penny off for buying all three.

This photo may even have been an ad for them.

….

Don’t let your dog see this website, especially if he’s the aspirational type:
