They’re thinking: “You smell horrible. You’re never going to catch anything running around smelling that way. We can tell you’re coming from 1/2 mile at least.”
That “rejection” problem is indeed curious. I haven’t encountered that yet. I hope it’s just a temporary “glitch” that goes away as quickly as it seems to have appeared. Without more information, I have no clue what it could possibly be all about.
You notice that was from the days when network standards said they could only shoot him from the waist up.
Oooh … just think… he might wiggle his hips again!
..
He’d gotten in a lot of trouble, probably a year before, when he’d done “Hound Dog” on another show, and been called vulgar and untalented by many of the critics and the clergy.
You can truthfully call Elvis a lot of things, good or bad, mostly matters of taste or opinion… but “untalented” isn’t anywhere in the list!
…
I like the moments when you can tell he’s laughing at his own reputation.
Thanks for posting that Steve Martin King Tut performance on SNL, which remains one of my all-time favorite SNL performances!! I suspected that Martin places a blender at the feet of the resurrected saxophonist/mummy as an “offering” — a comment on the modern commercialism of the ancient Egyptian culture.
This article that I found agrees with what I originally surmised when I first saw the act, and includes differing opinions on cultural appropriation and also some information on Steve Martin, his comedy and his music. I hope this is helpful to you.
That article is excellent. Caroline Williams, makes some very good points without getting the least bit “preachy.” Thanks for drawing it to my attention.
Now the blender makes sense in context and thank you for that too.
I recommend it as general reading to everybody.
How long do you think Cleo manages to stand upright on a bat in flight hovering up and down before falling on her belly and hanging on the bat’s neck for sheer life?
Which most probably results in choking the winged creature.
LOVE, love, love all three of your trombone finds!!! My sister also played trombone in her high school band (as Rotifer did), so we were familiar with both the well-played and not-so-well-played trombone.
My favorite of the three was the old photo of the trombone trio, along with that rather amusing Wagner quote (whether it was an historically accurate quote or not).
Well, Alexi, that just goes to show you that we all have such different tastes in music! I thought that the musical accompaniment to the Drone Display was very apt and never would consider muting the sound.
On this we do agree, however: full-screen viewing is definitely in order!!
As a fellow Van Gogh lover, I was absolutely delighted to watch the Drone Tribute to that brilliant artist! It was awesome….in every sense of that word! Thanks for including that (and, also, the animated GIF of Starry Night over the Rhône) today. Spectacular!!
I always wondered about the name of the player in right field. It was never in any of the routines that I watched. Sure gives an advantage to left-handed batters — The batter hits a long looping fly ball to right field and Nobody catches it.

Hey! I think I got them all this time. That must mean they are easy, peasy!
Still thinking about #9…
Me too.
yup
Ditto.
Perfect reply!
(Yet, I’ve never had the patience to listen to this whole track…..it’s just awful! LOL)
it really is awful—and in the same album that had some of
their finest
I think i got that one. !!!
1.Big bad wolf
2.Treetop
3 Trip around the world
4.Scrambled eggs.
5.Somewhere over the rainbow.
6.Quarterback
7.Jack-in-the-box
8.First Aid
9.Not sure. “Watchman” comes to mind but I think not.
(Does it have anything to do with his red hair that the arrow may be pointing to?)
I think it has to do with him standing while others are sitting.
Here are my solutions:
2) Tree top
3) A trip around the world
4) Scrambled Eggs
5) Somewhere over the rainbow
6) a quarterback
7) a jack-in-the-box
8) first aid
9) last man standing
Your #9 sounds right!
Yay… I also vote that you got #9.
I think that i got them all except #6.
the loving couple
So beautiful! Makes you wonder what they are thinking.
That little piece of kibble that dropped on the floor is MINE!
They’re thinking: “You smell horrible. You’re never going to catch anything running around smelling that way. We can tell you’re coming from 1/2 mile at least.”
Are they beagles or bassets? I am not very familiar with these breeds.
basset hounds
That poor fellow lower right appears to have a bad case of ringworm.
OMG…you’re right! Worst case I’ve ever seen!!
And this is a Border Coley and Beagle mix.
what’s her name?
QTπ
Well, her name made me laugh out loud!! Love it! And, of course, she’s adorable!
Glad to finally get to see her. She looks awesome!
Yes.
Looks like she’s doing it right to me. I think that bat is understanding it better hit the ball….or else!
I’m not so sure of that, Claude. She appears to be doing a pretty good job of choking up on that bat.
Previous comment was rejected. Anyhow…The sweet voice of Ray Charles!!
What do you mean when you say your comment was rejected?
Plods said that the other day too.
That “rejection” problem is indeed curious. I haven’t encountered that yet. I hope it’s just a temporary “glitch” that goes away as quickly as it seems to have appeared. Without more information, I have no clue what it could possibly be all about.
I was happily typing and I got that message before I was able to finish my sentence. So I posted a shorter version.
“Notice: we reject your comment.”
??
Seems like there’s some other glitch going on.
Inquiring minds want to know.
The Elvis clip – I loved the old guys in plaid jackets doing backup for him! And Ed Sullivan’s final comment.
You notice that was from the days when network standards said they could only shoot him from the waist up.

Boy! Have times changed!!
This comes from the era when “Saturday Night Live” was actually funny.
If you get the blender, please leave an explanation.
The last two episodes weren’t bad!

Knowing Nighthawks sense of humor, I’m just glad Cleo’s not mistakenly choking the other kind of bat.
And NO, Nighthawks… please… we don’t need a picture of that!
Not even the one with the bat out of hell (Cleo riding it)?
That wouldn’t be “choking up on the bat.”
That’s what I don’t want to see.
How long do you think Cleo manages to stand upright on a bat in flight hovering up and down before falling on her belly and hanging on the bat’s neck for sheer life?
Which most probably results in choking the winged creature.
oo–an even better take on choking the bat. Thanks, Susan!
I’ll save that for Halloween
Booooooo.
I knew I shouldn’t have said it.
Yay! Good job…snerks

Joachim Nicolas Eggert – Symphony No.3 in E-flat major (1807)
Soothing.
The painting is: “View of Venice by Swedish landscape painter Gustaf Wilhelm Palm (1843)

Trombones are so … yesterday.
True. As usual, a day late and a dollar short….
LOL!
Another choked bat! Well chosen!
Much better than everybody was afraid of!
Even funny.
I learned of this in today’s Ripley’s Believe it or Not
Thanks, for that.
The skill involved in that display is astounding.
Go full screen for best viewing; and I muted my sound.

Cleo and Claude appear to be wearing Cleveland’s football team jerseys not its baseball team’s.
Just an observation.
Color is good for football, but The letter is for baseball as they are no longer using the wahoo symbol!
Good morning, Cleophanatics!
How‘s on the bench today.
Y’all have a blessed day. (((((HuGz)))))
No; he’s got all mixed up and plays first base now.
Clever!
who?
I don’t know.
third base!
Exactly!
I always wondered about the name of the player in right field. It was never in any of the routines that I watched. Sure gives an advantage to left-handed batters — The batter hits a long looping fly ball to right field and Nobody catches it.
the announcers used to say sometimes:
nobody on; nobody out
so, what national day is this?
Monday, May 17th
National Pack Rat Day
National Cherry Cobbler Day
National Graduation Tassel Day
National Walnut Day
National Idaho Day
MMMMMMMMmmmm, Idaho potatoes!
Twice baked, with lots of goodies in them! Save the other skin half for potato skins!
That’s how Cleo does it, Clyde!
Good morning Balladeers, ((((( Plods))))) and Miss Susan.
Hi, Dry! 😀
I’m glad to see you dropping in here.
anybody see a cat come through here?
OMG! Priceless!!!
And, as long as he can get his head through the doggy door, the rest of him should pass through with no problem!
Ha Ha! That is like my boy Sango!
Just wait till tonight when Cleo dreams of that bat coming after her. She’ll be screaming for Claude to come and help her.
Up. Choke up. (Silly dog.)
Kiki.
