I’m guessing how that worked is that photo is actually of the penguin jumping out of the wave and its feet coincidentally almost touching the water below it.
Great timing.
I tried to search this, and got no reliable information. No source, which surprised me, only examples of its posting in various forums and blogs.
Some sites said it was from the 1950s, others the 1930s… Nobody mentioned the 1940s.
I really don’t think it’s from the 50s. The technology and materials available by 1950 were ahead of this…. especially plastics.
A woolen balaclava and rubber boots would have sounded quaint by then, and I think so would having to mention a sheath knife and shoulder pads, or that the light was electric. Of course it was!
It even looks a bit quaint for WWII.
1950s space suits were puffier, and more modern looking… We see them all the time in sci-fi movies, and they don’t look this antique.
Where are the space age weapons we saw in those ships?
Perspex is the British name for Plexiglass. That and the spelling “woollen” make me think this from a British publication, and I’d say probably from the 1930s.
I used to walk my brother’s dogs sometimes when visiting in Oakland CA….
He lived halfway up into the Oakland hills, and we’d head farther up.
Mostly cos I wanted to get to one short, fairly steep, dead-end street, with the usual conglomeration of close packed houses and small apartment buildings on one side.
Most of the other side, though, was one large property, well below sidewalk level, mostly covered in trees, except for one old house.
I usually don’t like houses built below grade… They can flood or just be damp and musty… But I wished I could live in that one, just because the grounds had Matilija poppies everywhere.
Not a blanket, like I’ve seen in pictures, and like most poppies, but individual plants, here there and everywhere…. some as tall as the shorter trees.
At sidewalk level some blossoms were knee high, and some over my head… It was fairyland!
Yes, because I remembered what element was different from the last time this ran. Did not remember which of the images was unique but when you know what to look for …
I remember a slightly different one, where the difference was a head tilt…. I can say that without a spoiler box, cos… you know…. it was a different one.
I also remember spending time on a similarish one that it turned out had been cropped, and the difference was lost in the part that had been removed.
Thanks. Once I knew what I was looking for I found this advertisement for the SEMIKRON brand online (they’re not inexpensive / even the least expensive home one Amazon has is $349.00).
For those who like baseball.
The “Kingdom of Tonga” site I posted earlier in the season has been shut down (as you might know). I’ve found this site as a replacement.
It’s a bit messier, but once you get through the clutter it works well.

And each of them is thinking “Woah, who is that eagle’s eagle in front of me?!”
On the other side is a salmon giving him the fin.
Mirror, mirror on the ground. Who’s the toughest eagle in town?

You sure you’ve got enough? Col. Doolittle would like to borrow a few…
those are B-24s–the Doolittle raiders flew B-25s
Made at the Willow Run plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
They have great airshows at Willow Run every year. I went every year I lived in MI, and a few times since leaving.
My Mom was a “Rosie the Riveter” building those things at the Convair plant in San Diego.
Looked like B25’s to me…
Rare secret photo of teeny miniature elves working at the Revell factory.
The hardest part was taking them apart again and plastiwelding them to the frames.

Here’s the full silent short classic.
Thank you!
The internet let me down again…
Here’s the actual one.
A little Photoshop never hurts…
Very cool. Party on, dude.
Had someone reliable told me this was Murano glass, or maybe a glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly, I would have believed it.
But there were a lot of similar photos in my image search results, and Mr. Google says they’re real octopuses under black light.
Gnarly, dude!
If it was real, I’d want to hear the story behind it. If it’s unreal, that’s fine too. At least it’s a silly image.

Hangin’ ten the hard way … without a board.
Okay…. This is a photo by Elmar Weiss, of a gentoo penguin “surfing” Sandy Bay, on Bleeker Island, in the Falklands.
It won a Comedy Wildlife Photo Award in 2019.
However I couldn’t find out, at least not in the time I had, who was giving those awards.

Nikon is the corporate sponsor. Nominees for the 2025 award are open now. The photos I’ve looked at so far are a hoot.
You forgot the accordion pleat joints so he can actually bend his arms and legs.
(At least they remembered the belt so his pants don’t fall down…)
I’d hate to have my pants fall down on Mars.
You never know when Martians might be watching.
I remember that from someplace.

Just my guess.

RUN! It’s raining fried eggs!
I think maybe it rained whole eggs, and these plants grew from them, and blossomed.
They’re blooming in the snow, at what looks like high altitude.
They could be Icelandic poppies.
Or maybe they’re relatives of one of my favorite flowers, Matilija poppies… sometimes called fried egg flowers.
I can’t find a picture that does them justice… The blossoms are easily the size of dinner plates.
They are the logo for the California Botanic Garden

Eggplant?
,,,
But where are his feathers?
Yeah those two little ropes are going to hold him.
And his eyes are wide open.
This is a bumpy ride. He’s probably hoping somebody brought lots of Meclizine.
Yes. Pretty obvious.
And I think that’s supposed to look like holding her hand.

Easy.
Twilight Zone: Season 2 Episode 17: “Twenty Two”
The still is at 16:55.
Open in new Window and wait for the timer to finish; it’s obvious from there.

And you spoiled it. Again.
Another animal being spoiled.
Maybe he’s not to supposed to be there, but showed up to steal some beer.
Unless that’s a jar of acorns, cos who else is going to eat acorns.
I don’t know how this cooking method was thought of, but I’m impressed.
You can buy smaller home versions on Amazon.
They’re called stir fry machines, or rotary stir fry cookers.
Thanks. Once I knew what I was looking for I found this advertisement for the SEMIKRON brand online (they’re not inexpensive / even the least expensive home one Amazon has is $349.00).
Here’s what I meant….
Home kitchen size, $130.00
oops… The URLs I’m getting aren’t working… Trying to investigate.
Let’s try this:

Unfortunately the reviews on this particular one aren’t great…. Like 3½ stars.
