So true. There is a four-lane highway through my town with a 55 m.p.h. speed limit. I can drive on it at 70 m.p.h. and have to remain in the right hand lane.

In California you can get a ticket for going 10 mph under the prevailing speed. In practice they usually only apply it to the fast lane, unless you’re going really really slow.

People think it means under the speed limit, so they can’t get a ticket for going, say, 60 in a 65 zone.

But actually, the prevailing speed is the speed at which traffic is moving… so in theory, you’d get a ticket for going 65 if everybody else is going 75, even though what they’re all doing is illegal!

In reality, you might get a red light behind you, but once you’ve been led over to the right lane, the cop would probably drive away.

You can also get a ticket for driving 75, even if you’re one of many. It happened to me, years ago… I just happened to be the last in line. But I got let off with a warning.

I guess in some states the left lane is just for passing… we have too many cars for that. The left lane is for faster traffic, and you can only pass when it’s safe.. Nobody has to get out of your way so you can zoom by.

It’s just common sense to keep the right lane free in this situation.

Tonight the King tides start. Ten+ feet before noon today, Over seven and a half feet at twelve thirty tonight.
At eleven thirty it will be ten plus again. It’s going to be like that through the weekend.
Did i mention the possibility of hail and lightning?
Good night. Go home. It’s a good time to stay in.

Just some back or sidelighting.

This picture is anything but casual… Look how perfectly posed the ladies are in front, like matching bookends to the tableau.

There’s strong light from the front… It’s casting those chair shadows on the floor. When you take pictures in sunlight, you pose people with the sun behind them, so the light is more even, or they’ll look splotchy.

To even it up, with front lighting, and keep the faces from having deep shadows or washing out, I’m thinking there are lights, probably on tall stands, on either side… It shines off everybody’s sprayed or pomaded hair, and kills the shadows under their noses, without beaming down to add confusing shadows to the floor

It’s an art. Lighting directors get big bucks.

The sidelight missed

one guy’s
Gene Kelly’s
hair. In some old pictures you’ll see where somebody even added a thin line with white ink.

Pretty sure the one on the left and right sides

are…
Gene Kelly and Phil Silvers.

And “Spider Lady”

on the right is…
Rita Hayworth

Hmm… Now that you mention it, I can see a bit of resemblance, but It can’t be him.

Tigressy says it’s Cover Girl, which I’m not familiar with so I googled it.

It was made in 1944, when Lemmon was about 19 years old. And the guy I recognized was in it.

Lemmon became known in the 1950’s and 60s.

The resolution is so bad I can’t be sure, and the terrain seems very odd.

I thought I saw it for a moment… so I downloaded the picture so I could circle it, but then I couldn’t find it again. I keep thinking I see other things, though.

I’ll look away for a bit and come back.

Nope, although I think I can see what you’re talking about. Mine is to the right and slightly above yours; a calico cat looking to his left (our right). But it also looks rabbit-ish.

I think I see the face of yours, but not the body in one piece.

A light colored nose, and kind of lying on a diagonal?

Okay…I think I found the kitty I thought I found before…. some moments it’s very clearly a cat… then it kinda disappears and I question it.

But I’m beginning to be more convinced.

If you want to know what I see…

It’s almost in the very center of the picture… Just a teensy bit to the left. A ginger or ginger spotted cat, facing the camera, with white legs and a white muzzle. Can’t see its tail.

When I “lose” it, I find it by looking for the face, especially the eyes and nose.

If you see the same one, let me know!

From a site called BerkshireEagle..

“Shirley Temple tries out the big four-engine Army transport C-54 which she had just christened with a pat and a kiss, at the Douglas plant, Oct. 12, 1944 in Santa Monica. This is the size plane used to transport wounded men across the Pacific and to take President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Churchill and others across the Atlantic. Shirley’s next movie will be “I’ll Be Seeing You.” (AP Photo)”

it doesn’t mention the plane having her name on it.
