Sorry, everyone! It never ever occurred to me that anyone would find it creepy or disturbing, since, in my opinion, it simply made him more human and relatable. I have a few more videos of famous historical figures along the same lines (colorization and animation), but now I know that it’ll be better if I refrain from posting them.
Apologies for creeping you all out. I really never expected that reaction.
My take on the comments isn’t one of “disturbing”, my take on what others have noted is that it, the animation and colourization, is “unique”, and unexpected. We all have in our own minds our “safe, go-to images”, and this abuts up alongside them.
I’d like to see more, myself. This images are rather unusual, and probably stems from the illustrator’s vision of the subject.
I’m with DennisinSeattle and baconboycamper.
Just because I’m uncomfortable doesn’t mean I think others should be deprived.
I give you George Carlin below (no “seven words”).
Just for the record, I’m comfortable with knobs. 🤓
YES!!!! I agree! What a very strange choice (albeit a terrific orchestral arrangement) for background music! There were a few comments about the musical choice on the YouTube page, but nowhere near the number that I expected!
…wherein you could not find the poster of Cate Blanchett with orb and sceptre, as Susan remembered yesterday.
Cate Blanchett isn’t in red, but she is holding an orb and sceptre in the coronation scene and the portrait of Elizabeth I seems to have been the inspiration for that dress.
As a side note I sometimes wonder if our “do not track settings” and “clear browsing data” actually have any validity. Why would “Elizabeth, The Golden Age” come into a search for “Up in Smoke?”
It did, so I took advantage of it, but….
Thanks so much for being on the look-out! I do appreciate it a lot!
I was searching for the very same poster that I had done, but with the additions of the orb and scepter in that version. I had it at one time (before my PC crashed a few years back), but haven’t been able to find it since! It’s got to be on the internet, since that’s where I initially found it, so I’m sure it’ll turn up eventually.
The pictures you found yesterday are great, but, unfortunately, not the ones that I’m waiting to find. I did save them, though, just because I liked them.
This is the one I’m looking for, but with the orb and scepter included:
and, that’s because I only wanted it as the comparison to the poster that I already have done.
Thanks for that post Old Phart. Was the one you saw airworthy?
nighthawks, I have a couple of nitpicks with Platinum Fighter Sales (one makes me wonder about what else they’ve overlooked).
The one that makes me wonder “what else” is:
On its website the TBM is listed under fighters, it’s not, it is a torpedo bomber (TB) and should be listed as such in the Bombers and Transport section of the site..
The other one is that while it is indeed a Grumman design, this particular one was made under contract by General Motors; that’s what the M stands for; I think that should be made clear in the opening offer for sale.
Of the first six Grumman built that went into combat, only one survived, but somewhere up the line someone persevered, and it became one of the most successful aircraft at its job of the war.
Interesting side fact. At its cruising speed of 153 miles per hour, this aircraft would lose a good number of Indianapolis 500 races today.
Oh yes. It was doing fly bys. Then land come in, fold its wings up and be on display for a bit. Other than the fire suppression Sikorsky, it was the only war bird I saw flying. There was a tiny experimental stunt biplane, but no acrobatics while I was there.
I’ve seen Johnny Depp in only two movies, “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” and “Alice in Wonderland.”
I thought he played his role well in both of them. He played darker version of Willy Wonka than Gene Wilder, and I actually like his portrayal better than Gene Wilder’s.
Now that I’ve just found out that “Alice Through the Looking Glass” exists, I’m going to try to find it.
I found “Alice Through The Looking Glass” just before I was going to go to bed; I didn’t make it to bed until after watching the entire 114 minutes.
The credits says it is “based on characters created by Lewis Carroll” (very loosely based / think of Carroll’s characters acting in a play themselves) .
The story is a fun — time-travel / good vs. bad / life lesson learned tale. The Disney people got this one right ! 🙂
As always with this site close out any extraneous pop-up boxes . The movie is there (go full screen to get rid of the upper right annoyance (if any more pop-ups appear, close them out too).
So glad you enjoyed them! This whole page all started when I came across the McCartney video with Johnny Depp. I had had no intention of putting up that poster as the feature today until after watching that. I never knew that McCartney had made an appearance in the movie!
What a fun morning! First off, the poster was great! And all the videos to go along were more fun. I’ve Always enjoyed Johnny Dogg in all his movies. Thanks, Stel.

Abraham Lincoln like you’ve never seen him before! I thought it was fascinating!
I liked seeing him smiling, with blue eyes. Don’t know if it was realistic. All the changes in hair and beard were a bit disturbing.
I guess I’m not used to seeing him look so young. I did like the colorization.
I’m not sure if I liked this or not. It’s a little creepy…..but interesting.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who found it that way (I couldn’t watch the whole thing).

No no, post away!

I kinda thought “Oh come let us adore him” was a bit over the top…

Thanks to all for being kind enough to take the time to expand on your opinions of the Lincoln video. I’ll post a few more, perhaps with a caveat.
I appreciate all your views.
Alexi, I left some questions about the pictures you posted for me yesterday of
Elizabeth I on yesterday’s page.
It goes back to…
…your comment of April 17, 2021…
…wherein you could not find the poster of Cate Blanchett with orb and sceptre, as Susan remembered yesterday.

if you haven’t heard of the story of Torpedo 8 (Grumman Avengers) it is a tale of heroics.
Unimaginable heroics.
the 2019 movie ‘Midway’ uses computer graphics to show what it was like
to do the most extraordinary feats of courage in the face of flaming death.
WOW!
YES! WOW!!
Thanks for some really good footage, NH.
Dry facts from a book are often not enough to tell the true story.
Thanks for posting this.
yeah, you’d think that if you’re trying to sell something for a half million dollars , you’d
at least be accurate in the advertisement
Great information, Alexi. We seem to have a few good aviation minds in this group.

And 3 AT-6. All 4 were flying formation on Saturday.

That, is interesting.
Good stuff, Happy!
Thanks for posting that, Happy! That was fascinating!

“Finding Neverland” is worth a look too…!
That Captain Jack Basset is one tough pirate! I hope he can pull his ship away from the falls!
I loved all the Pirates of the Caribbean videos. Paul Mc Cartney, Keith Richards, and especially the Polish youth symphony.
So glad you enjoyed them! This whole page all started when I came across the McCartney video with Johnny Depp. I had had no intention of putting up that poster as the feature today until after watching that. I never knew that McCartney had made an appearance in the movie!
the board game of last year
Good one…..and I wouldn’t be surprised.
Good morning Balladeers,(((((Plods))))) and Miss Susan.
I did. On Ballard Street.
LOL
Good morning, Stelphans and Bassetites!
As good as the Basset and human versions of this philm are, my all time cheezeball favorite is:
Give your BFF a hug.
Y’all keep smiling. (((((HuGz!)))))
Sorry about the quality
What a fun morning! First off, the poster was great! And all the videos to go along were more fun. I’ve Always enjoyed Johnny Dogg in all his movies. Thanks, Stel.
Thanks, ML!!
This version of the poster is so much more powerful and exciting than the human version. Bassets make good pirates!
And, thanks to you as well, PC!!
I think I have a new favorite poster! It’s GORGEOUS, Stel!
That’s so kind of you, P51!! Especially since it’s from back in the early days of 2016.
I appreciate your comment!
