Thanks! I wonder why Google didn’t turn that up.

I also wonder why I needed to know… but I just have a curiosity problem, I guess.

From the first time I saw the FYC She Drives Me Crazy video…
Slick..
Well choreographed…
Pacing of activities…
Song…
I’ve always been impressed by this video.
Beats most of whatever is out there nowadays.

Interesting thought. I agree that it’s impressive, and I like it, though they’re not my favorite group. Sometimes I’d rather watch a band I like better, even if there’s no choreography.

I figure a lot of musicians aren’t interested in acting… some people are simply born to sing or play the piano, or the violin, talents I have none of.

I know the Beatles, in their early days as hard rockers, even then, IMHO, brilliant musical innovators, considered choreography of any sort to be a distraction, just like the collared suits they were talked into… but eventually they enjoyed that part of performing.

Some people, though, are multi-faceted entertainers, drawn to putting on mini-dramas, dance routines, and other kinds of performances.

FYC are like that… I also enjoy this sort of thing from Devo, REM, and others… whether or not you can see them actually playing instruments.

But it doesn’t mean I don’t also enjoy seeing people just making music… I don’t consider the Stones “better” in a video for, say, Sympathy For the Devil, where they’re acting, than standing on stage going full out as musicians.

If I could see a video of Mozart, playing the piano, I wouldn’t expect him to start tap-dancing. So it’s really hard for me to rate videos on that basis.

Not as far-fetched as you would think. Mozart was an avid dancer, and was known to be quite good at it, when he cared to be. He was especially a fan of anything regarded as “bawdy” or “risque.” Tap, in the late 18th century, was definitely in the “bawdy” camp. 😉

Agreed. Robert Palmer also comes to mind. Well choreographed videos with and without the instrument playing, never a problem, just as long as the music is good.
