I like how it has the states drawn in.

Honestly, I didn’t know some of them, like Texas and Colorado, were that old.

Does this poor creature have any idea at all that its appearance has been so completely remodeled?
Other than that, it looks like the spider in those old Lucas the Spider cartoons. Some variety of jumping spider.

According to the Internet, which never lies… This guy is real!

It’s got to be very much magnified, though…. cos it’s a male Peacock spider, a tiny (2 to 6 mm)(even 6mm is less than ¼”), jumping spider from Australia, famous for his elaborate courtship dance.

They’re not dangerous to humans, and hunt prey like flies and grasshoppers with their excellent vision.

Their patterns vary among the more than 80 species discovered.

Oh… and apparently if the female doesn’t like a male’s courtship dance, she eats him.

I’d imagine dance lessons are very popular among adolescent male Peacock spiders.

Is this supposed to depict the same portion of the planet as the image posted earlier?

Maybe there’s a reason they long ago started making fine leather goods in Italy.

That reminded me of a picture I saved a long time ago .. not sure whether I’ve ever posted it here.

It’s a leather shoe, found during the excavation of an ancient Roman city, now preserved in a museum in Germany…. and it’s anything but primitive.

That looks pretty comfortable. Nowadays, there are so many shoes out there that hurt people (especially women) just to stand and walk in them. Progress?

He was, for a time, the go-to guy if you needed a man to play a psychopath, especially an over-the-top one. Bruce Dern became that guy a couple of decades later.
Mike Myers satirized it really well in his Austin Powers movies.

Dunno why the one who’s not being chased jumped into hiding.

How do you know they both weren’t being chased? If I was the third cat, I’d be ready to run just in case!

Oh…. so maybe the all-grey one and the black one were both being chased by a fourth cat?

Good theory, cos then the black one would be most in danger of being caught.

So he hides….. and now the grey and white tabby is unknowingly next in line, just when he was feeling relieved as the grey ran right past him

Another real thing that looks fake.

Apparently the grey area under the massive cloud is an isolated thunderstorm… visible from the sunny beach.

A fellow on the beach snapped the picture on his phone, and sent it to a meteorologist. It made the news and went viral on the Internet.

Somewhere on this earth, there exists someone who really, really, really wants to be at that precise location at a specific time of day, likely sunrise.

The Nazca Lines are a UNESCO World Heritage site, featuring massive ground drawings—called geoglyphs—created around 2,000 years ago, by carving shallow lines that reveal lighter soil below.

This 120 foot cat was only discovered about 4 years ago.

“Johny Isla, the head archaeologist for the Nazca Lines, told the Efe news agency that this geoglyph likely dates to the Paracas period (500 BC to 200 AD), which predates the Nazca culture.”

I guess from the drawing that it was kinda like their kindergarten.

I’ve gotta sleep…. but before I go….

Sometimes I think I spend too much time online.

Then I see a reminder that some people get carried away with other hobbies, too… and maybe mine isn’t so bad.
