A British brand, unfamiliar here… not just a mixer, but has attachments (some included, others sold separately, of course) for blending, pasta making, meat grinding… In fact…

“Kenwood’s 1976 attachments for the Chefs included mincers, slicers, coffee mill, sausage making attachment, shredders, bean slicer and pea huller, can opener, liquidiser, potato peeler, cream maker and juice extractor.”

Plus, it has a heating element, so you can cook in the bowl.

That means you can expect the wifey to turn out ever more extravagantly exotic meals… grind her own flour, make sausage, ice cream, fancy pastries… the list is endless.

Not your marriage, though, if you think she’ll be thrilled to get one for her birthday.

If I’m spending that kind of money, it’s gonna be on a new camera and lenses. But then I’d have to start traveling again. And the costs go up and up. Never mind.

As I said: It’s “only” around 300€ here, tax and delivery included.
My trusty Jamie Oliver is still good, but the bowl is not in the best shape anymore – and spare parts aren’t available anywhere…

I don’t understand… I looked at both links.

All this machine does is chop… It doesn’t heat or cook like the Kenwood machine.

I understand that you don’t like the idea of all the Kenwood attachments, and presumably having to wait to do one thing till you finish doing another….
But why would you want such a gigantic, restaurant food chopper, that takes up so much room?

The one in the picture is 9l, though it comes in a 6l version too ….even 6l is three full-size Cusinarts.
Do you often chop that much food?

It also makes no sense that it would cost $3,000+ here and $300+ there… in this day of products shipping all over the world, I don’t know anything with a 10x price difference between two industrialized nations.

Do you have any idea why that would be? Maybe they’re not the same and I missed it?

I do have enough kitchen appliances that do their jobs separately.
As mentioned below, my Jamie Oliver food processor is still working nicely. I won’t need a chopper as long as it works.

I frequently make terrine in large batches and preserve them in 220-ml twist-off glasses. Keeps nicely at room temperature; a couple of months without problems.
Perfect gifts, too: Only duck, chicken, onion, garlic, apple, mushrooms (in slices), spices, salt. No nutmeg, nuts, dairy, eggs or grain products.
We have a friend who’s allergic to nuts, peanuts, almonds and nutmeg and egg isn’t good for him either. He loves that terrine.

With the current machine, I work in small batches.
The 9-liter-machine (which is only slightly higher than the 6-liter one) should only be filled half to work properly, that’s about the amount I usually make. But that’s only a wild dream…

Speaking of taking up room, see the picture below: 27 liter – but I can store light stuff in it when it’s not in use. And I can blanch whole ducks in it if need be. Use it as a slow-cooker even. Poach stuff. Or make soup. Or mulled wine… even some kind of beer.

Wow… all those appliances would be bigger than my teeny kitchen. My sink is way too small to even wash a 27 liter pot.

And I just don’t cook on a grand scale any more…. mostly just for me. Almost entirely, actually.

You do use some sort of actual canning method for the terrines? Sounds good.

Our kitchen is pretty small, too – and the only place we have to hold the washing machine…
That pot doesn’t go into the sink since it has its own electric heater – I put it on a stool in the shower, put in some soap-water, clean it, use the tap, and rinse. It goes on top of a shelf when not in use – not as heavy as it looks.
The canning (in jars) isn’t too complicated, even with meat. I tried it with a small batch (and a much smaller pot) first – it worked, and if it hadn’t, the contents wouldn’t have spoiled by then.
Most important: Clean and sterilized jars, the same with the well-fitting lids.
Cooking time: 2 hours and after about 48 hours 2 hours again.
The current batch had one glass that didn’t turn out right (the lid didn’t close well enough; that happens once in a while), so we refrigerated it and ate the content within a couple of days. That was over a month ago and we’re still pretty much alive. 😉

My long-ago cat, Flea…. she who taught me just how allergic I am to cats… was mad for anything smelling of tomatoes and garlic… even vegetarian pasta and pizza. She ate bits of apple, too, unless they were too sweet… and popcorn.

Domestic cats grow up around smells and tastes that their wild ancestors never experienced.

Somehow I think big cats are different… but it’s possible they can have their dietary quirks as well, especially in captivity.

Carrots, though… I’m thinking not.

Sorry ’bout that.

Doing this stuff on a small tablet, I don’t really have a good drawing program. I’m using the markup function in my photo app.

It’s hard to explain… but I can’t choose the line thickness… It’s constant, so it’s drawn thicker or thinner depending on his large or small you make the image.

That puzzle is so big and complicated, it’s hard to draw around just one thing on an 8″ screen… so I had to stretch it till I could only see one corner… I didn’t realize how thin that would make my circle.

It also doesn’t save your line the same size you draw it, so I never know how thick it will be.

My first 2-wheel bike was second hand, very heavy, in a larger size than they make now… 28″ wheels. AFAIK the biggest now is 26″.

I was 7… I’d been begging for a little bike with training wheels. Somebody at work gave my dad this huge bike for me.

He refused to put training wheels on it, or blocks on the pedals. (I think now that he didn’t want to admit that he didn’t know how. He was completely unhandy.)

Luckily, it was a woman’s model… No crossbar, so I could stand in the middle. But for the first two years or so, there was no way I could reach the pedals sitting on the seat… which means I couldn’t get onto the seat anyway.

I didn’t weigh enough to make the foot brakes work, so I stopped by either jumping off the pedals or running into something, like a stop sign or a bush.

I was, and am, in no way athletic. I’m surprised that I did it, but I was determined to have a bike. By the time I was nine I could reach the pedals… And my little brother and sister got new little bikes with training wheels for their birthdays.
