She doesn’t need it at school, but I think she has all her vacation stuff with her.

Probably the artist is just trying to make it obvious that she’s flying to Sweden.

Imgur blocked the UK because of the demands put upon it by the UK government, so the image doesn’t display for me.

I’ve read that the largest contributor by far to plastic waste in the ocean, which everybody assumes will be China, is actually the Phillipines… twice as much as the rest of the world combined.

China generates a lot more, but also has much more robust waste disposal infrastructure, that keeps a high percentage from entering the ocean.

The Phillipines is a network of tiny islands, crisscrossed by rivers, without a good system for controlling waste and runoff… An on its own, emits about a third of the oceans’ plastic pollution.

As I wrote – it’s not their plastic waste.
How could it be?

Nobody said it was their waste, though it could have been expressed better.

This statistic is about how much escapes into the ocean. It’s a real number, and reflects not production, but failure at containment. It’s a separate problem.

I remember that China stopped accepting imports of waste sometime not too long before the pandemic… It was news even where I live because a company that used to haul garbage away stopped. That’s when we found out some had been going to China, which I thought was appalling.

But even when China accepted a huge portion of it, they let less escape. They also produce far more than the other countries named, but contain more if it.

Yes, industrialized nations need to be forced to deal with their own output. People should not be making a living sorting other countries’ debris. Especially in countries that lack the infrastructure to keep it out of the water.

But keeping it out of the ocean is what this number is about, not where it started. And I think it points out who needs help, not just blame.

But it’s not necessarily their own waste…

Sorry for having down-voted you – but those “facts” just aren’t justified.

No, the plastic waste comes from the USA (and Canada) — they just get the job of disposing of it…

And Europe… And any other industrialized nations.

You probably know that Southeast Asia was looking to buy it, not just an unwilling dumping grounds.

It’s still going on, to and needs to stop… But some of the locals depend on sorting and reselling trash as a way to make money, and avoid starvation.

It’s hard to convince them to stop, in spite of the environmental and health dangers. China made it illegal… the rest of the world celebrated, but some poor Chinese were devastated.

Sorry, but it’s not true. the horizontal track is for mono (left + right) and there’s a vertical component (left – right) that provides the stereo information.
simplification of the math is: (left + right) + (left – right) equals 2 left with the right canceling out.
Inverting (left – right) produces (-left + right). this is added to the mono (left + right)
(left + right) + (-left + right) equals 2 right with the left canceled out.

This is how a mono record player can play a stereo record with the full range of music but without the stereo representation. The same is true for FM radio.

There’s a youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlCFOT4OGhg

No big… I wasn’t complaining.

I was using having the other post to write as an excuse for not having time before dinner.

We sometimes have an extra puzzle on puzzle day… It’s okay. My only concern is using them up faster, and running out of puzzles.

I like solving them.

I asked everybody whether they wanted my solutions, and some said yes, so I do it. S’OK.

I love the “fly” in the soup.

It looks like a random, detached one, though. If your bowl of soup had an actual working zipper, maybe you could zip it up to keep it warm till you eat it, or to keep the noodles from spilling while you carry it to the table.

Speaking of the table… I need my dinner. It’s late, but first I’ll serve up the solution…. BRB…

Zippity doo dah… zippity ayy…
Oh wait, we’re not supposed to sing that any more
I understand the concerns about the character, but I kinda wish they wouldn’t take it out on the song.

Okay…. How does this compare…

with your finds??

You’re not supposed to sing it. I like it just fine. It hasn’t polluted my brain & I grew up with my dad reading those stories to us in the vernacular as they were written. He was good at putting voices to everything he read to us, & I’ve tried to match his talent.

And these are:
Willie Nelson, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson & Bruce Springsteen,

Photographed together during the recording, in 1985.

Of the charity record:

I know, that’s how I named it so I could remember who they all were (And how to spell them without looking them up). You’ll notice it’s a theme that runs through most of my image postings…

@ Nighthawks – Taken some more pictures of my Layout (Saxham St Sidings). I’ll post some tomorrow, but it might be after I come back from another (Very local, and quite short) exhibition. I’ll be taking a different layout to that one, so I’ll see if I can grab some photos of that one as well, it’s quite nice.
