Here are
Tony Curtis on Tenor sax, Jack Lemmon on bass, and Marilyn Monroe on ukelele
in the hit
movie
Some Like it Hot.
I’m afraid I do not know the identity of the alto sax or clarinet players.

A wonderfully funny movie.

Billy Wilder directed some great comedies.

Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are disguised as women, joining an all-girl band, to hide out from the mob… But of course, Tiny Curtis gets involved with Marilyn Monroe…

And Jack Lemmon draws someone else’s attention.

The last half a minute is a favorite scene of mine…. But just in case you don’t want to see..

I thought maybe it was fake…. or a movie or something… But search says it’s real.

A blue whale below a boat… possibly further below than it looks, cos the water is clear.

This from a Facebook page (but the same facts are given, though less succinctly, other places too):

“The largest dinosaur weighed around 85 tons.
Some male blue whales weigh as much as 200 tons.
A blue whale’s heart is 6 feet wide and weighs 400 lbs.
The largest animal that ever lived.”

i also read that their tongues can weigh as much as elephants.

But they can’t eat you… they’re baleen whales, who eat tiny krill, tons of them every day, filtered out of the seawater by the balleen plates across their narrow throats.

One of our gray whales could choke on a grapefruit.

Pretty sure a blue whale would too, since their throats are only a few inches wide…

And they’re about twice as long and 4 times as heavy as a gray whale.

Amazingly huge creatures.

How can anyone doubt that, that is a dinosaur?!

If we can still place bets, I’ll go a lot higher than ten bucks.

Heck, I’ll bet my life savings on Kennedy!

Um .. I meant because we already know the outcome.

Has to do with safe bets, not politics.

Probably nobody was giving great odds… But with a guaranteed payoff, it’s way better than nothing!

Cover by George Hughes.
I can’t seem to find the results of Stewart Alsop’s poll.

Everybody is selling the magazine, but nobody mentions having read it.

I don’t know why I keep believing actors do things like actually getting a mohawk for a role.

It was a low budget movie, meaning he only got about $35,000… I just checked to make sure.

I guess that’s not enough.

To be fair, it makes sense for a woman with really long hair, or even, I suppose, if a guy needs to be ready for other roles and publicity.

I was going to ask whether this was art or a puzzle, but since I had no one nearby to ask, I thought I’d call Google.

Well…. Google says it’s a photo.

I found that hard to believe… but even Getty Images concurs.
From their site: “Drone image of cars damaged by fire, Savona, Italy – stock photo”.

I couldn’t find any backstory, but obviously, it must have been a shipment of new cars, to be all the same model and color… I wonder what happened!

Well, there was this fire, you see…. {^¿^}

But yes, kidding aside, it does stimulate the curiosity.

I doubt they were all the same color originally. But the fire would have destroyed the paint. And a few weeks out in the weather they would have all rusted to the same patina.

Oh! That didn’t occur to me… I took the color for yellow, not rust.

But of course, thanks.

I like the Italian name better… farfalle…. it means butterfly.

Not that I want to eat butterflies or bowties, but butterflies are prettier.

Actually, I’m told there are a few places in Italy where it’s called bowties, too .. I don’t remember the Italian word

I do love most pasta, though, so I’ll eat it whatever you call it, if you just call me to come eat it.

Years ago I knew an Italian lady… I almost said an elderly Italian lady, but my views on that have changed… who helped run the family Italian deli and grocery store.

She told me a few things about Italian cooking and ingredients. Not many things, cos she was busy… but she was happy that I wanted to know about it.

She told me farfalle was the best pasta shape because it’s not extruded or molded, but rolled out flat and cut, and that the middles have to be pinched by hand, cos machines can’t do it. So if you want hand made pasta, buy farfalle.

For years I believed that… and I bought Italian made farfalle for certain special dishes, even though I eventually decided I actually preferred rotini, and if I can find it, radiatorre, in them.

Even more eventually… sigh… I found out it wasn’t true. There are machines to pinch the middles. There are now, and there were back then. Sorry Mrs. Traverso.

And here’s the butterfly….

2014 on Sherpa… Actually I think a day or so before the 19th but those were just tests and teasers.

GoComics closed the Sherpa comment forums in I think 2017… I can’t remember exactly… and we switched to making comments about Cleo by time traveling, and adding them to only slightly used 10 year old Ballard Street strips.

Nighthawks got us this shiny new Cleo and Company website just a hair over 5 years ago.

Thanks Nighthawks!
